I debated where and if I should list this very important enquiry.

 

Suckers!  You know what I mean, don't pretend you don't.

 

Those concave rubberish disk thingies (technical term), that hold your phone, GPs, whatever, bracket, to the window.

 

My question is:- When the sucker bit starts to perish & won't stay "stuck" for as long as when new - what do you do?

 

Is there:

• A repair/renewal technique?
• Some secret web stores,  that will supply a new replacement?
• Must I dig deep and spend the kids inheritance on a whole new bracket with sucker?

 

Please do not suggest drilling holes or using adhesive pads. Thanks

They have a fairly short effective life especially if they get in the sun.  You can't fully rely on them either. Nev

And, at our age, I'd be so bold as to suggest adhesive pads.

You need to replace the suction cup or mount.

 

Phone/GPS mount suction cups will last much longer if you remove them from the windscreen/window when they are not being used and

then reapply them next time you want to use them. You can get over 5 years out of them this way.

 

The perspex/glass the suction cup is attached to is heat cycled daily and as well as eventually causing it to fall off also shortens the cups life.

So much fun when they appear at our feet unexpectidly. A few problems to keep us on our toes.

Just don't fly past mobile camera's, and you should be ok? maybe, mabe not, keep a keen mail on mailbox for any nasties.

I had the suction mount holding my Skyecho fall off the window when facing the sun. IMO they are simply not a reliable way to attach anything.

I was fortunate to be able to relocate the mount using zip ties, as in the Savannah there are metal brackets that the zip ties could go around. It works a treat.

Hopefully you can do something similar in your plane, Skippy.

Same problem with my SE2 (& its not that old).

My solution - Made up an aluminium L bracket , that the SE2 supplied mounting can screw to, that Velcros to my anti glair shield carpet. Added a few extra strips over the L for added security. Sits just off center, little impact on visibility,  has near 300 degree horizontal & 180 vertical acquisition field.

Skyecho uses the RAM twist suction cup mount.

They are a very reliable mount if used within their design criteria. They are not a permanent or semi-permanent mount.

They are designed to be attached before use and then removed after use.

 

With Skyecho people attach the suction cup mount to a side window and then remove the Skyecho leaving the suction cup in place.

So in the month between aircraft usage the window goes thru 30 heat cycles.

As I have said before this eventually causes it to fall off and also shortens the cups life. This will happen faster in summer.

Skyecho do not tell you to use it this way but they do not discourage it either.

 

I have never seen a RAM twist suction mount fall off if newly attached at the beginning of the day.

 

If you want a permanent mount then create one or hassle Skyecho to create one.

RAM make hundred of mounts.

 

I used to sell RAM mounts. I have dozens of misuse stories.

When the Skecho2 was approved for use in NZ they disallowed the use of suction mounts. I've had mine fall off a few times but the bubble canopy is not perfectly flat anywhere so it does not stick well except along the side close to the base where it is fairly flat so it stays there mostly.

My SE2 RAM Suction Mount was evil.

No matter how hard I tried the B--- thing would drop of just as I rotated for take-off, or at some other inconvenient time. 

Its no fun, in a small aircraft, fishing around blindly for a hiding SE2 - people thing your practising for an aerobatic display.

My home made SE2 mount is semi perniment.

When I gnat to take it home to charge, its just a 90 degree twist & I leave the mount in place.😈

Thought you'd swapped the Sonnex for a later model SE5.

Not suggesting that you'd you'd be old enough for one of those Skippy, but they were a great aircraft and at least they never had had to worry about any phone mounts.😁
