The battery is swapped in less than 15 minutes. There are automatic battery swap machines for medium size trucks already operating that take less than 5 minutes. Quicker than filling the tank with diesel. I don't think this happening yet, Sydney to Melbourne. An electric truck did deliver a load of toilet paper from Sydney to canberra recently and this made news. We are told the tesla semi can achieve 1.05 kwhours per kilometre, if we apply some musk bs factor and assume in the real world a b double might use 1.5kwh per kilometre. 878km x 1.5 = 1317kwh battery required. That would be about 8 tonnes of battery. Not sure what the freight rate is Sydney Melbourne, the electric truck will be giving up about 6 tonnes of freight. Electric trucks will rule when the bean counters say it is time. 1 1

F1 and Formula E only share one track because the standard race tracks are too long for the Formula E cars. F1 races for 78 laps around Monaco, whereas Formula E runs for 29 laps around the same circuit. F1 record at Monaco is Lando Norris, 1:09.954, McLaren, 2025 (Qualifying), while the fastest qualifying lap in Formula E in 2023 was Sascha Fenestraz’s 1:28.773. I don't doubt EV's are going to play a huge part in the future but I think Hybrids will prove to be the most useful. I think Edison are on the right track with their hybrid trucks and pickup conversions. I would love an early F truck with one of their conversions It is no longer 2023 but 2026. The Gen4 Formula E is all wheel drive, 10 seconds faster in some scenarios, produces 600kW (805HP) with 0 to 100 km/h in 1.5 seconds so is easily quicker to the first corner. F1 currently has the edge in top speed and handling but this will be overcome in the very near future. There is way more money poured in to every facet of F1 than FE 1

Plenty of businesses are doing just that. Some will fail but that is how progress happens as we learn from those mistakes. The fossil fuel industry is behind a huge amount of misinformation like EV production using too much rare and costly materials, batteries lasting only a few years etc and you throw away materials when everything is worn out. All garbage and absolute proof exists. One example is that batteries when completely spent are ground in to black mass & 95-98% of the cobalt, lithium, manganese and other rare material is recycled. 3

BurnieM Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago (edited) Most of us are neither pro or anti EVs. We know we have limited fossil reserves. We know fuel companies are greedy f*cks. We know that for unexplained reasons no Australian government wants to control their operations. We know that lifetime maintenance is less than ICE vehicles. We do not understand why the entry point for basic EVs is so expensive. We are uncomfortable about the limited range of EVs. We know that EV techonology particuarly batteries and electric motors is constantly improving. We are in a transition phase now. There is no black or white right answer for all (or most) circumstances. Edited 9 hours ago by BurnieM 2 1
Moneybox Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Electric vehicles have been in service for many years, forklifts and golf carts. These vehicles have been serviced well by Lead Acid batteries and due their mode of operation they perform well, have a long life, low maintenance and last throughout the day. They are the type of vehicle that can be parked up at night on charge and the mass of the lead acid battery pack doesn't present a problem. Road going vehicles have problems with weight, they need to reliably travel longer distances, they need recharge at varying locations and so far battery technology and charging facilities haven't reached a suitable level to service the needs of regular daily use if you are anywhere away from the city. For many of us they are not a viable option and in and economical sense they cannot compete with internal combustion engines using regular fossil fuels. Sure we're running out of fossil fuel just like we were when they tried these scare tactics forty years ago. 😁 [https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2405844024152310 "One argument advanced in support of reducing fossil fuels consumption is limited supply. Using the principle of “Peak Oil Theory,” proponents state that fossil fuels is a limited resource and the world will simply run out of it. Based on the available data, we demonstrate that supply of fossil fuels is relatively abundant, and we will not run out of fossil fuels in near term."] 1

Requires fertilizers/pest controls/diesel - I question the economics & environmental benefits of bio fuels While these aren't perfect studies generally show about an 80% reduction in GCG compared to fossil diesel. Alcohol based fuels are slightly lower. But these sources lean into agriculture which is an Australian strength and they also provide fuel security. We still need liquid fuels for planes, the maths simply doesn't work for batteries and hydrogen is silly. What we're finding now is that fuel security matters. Edited 9 minutes ago by Ian
