In looking at Penrite MC-2ST Full Synthetic Two Stroke Oil. it has a note in the specifications, as being unsuitable for ultralight aircraft So now looking for a suggested alternative? facthunter Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Oils in specific countries have varying formula's. Autobarn have a lot of brands but if you say it's for an aeroplane they might clam up. Note the date of the Rotax advice April 2009.. Some of those recommendations may have been superseded . You can call Penrite on the Phone. I've found them very helpful with Lube enquiries. They used to make a product called "Green Slime" But got sued. It required careful mixing. Aero engines operate different to most other applications. They don't get much of a rest. and they are full bore at the beginning. Your biggest worry is carbon build up in the ring grooves and the cold motor fuel washing the oil from the Internals as the fuel is not vapourised. Note also 100 L L is OK and with premix fuel remaining in the carbs will evaporate and leave neat oil which can cause lean running next time. Nev 2 1
turboplanner Posted 23 hours ago Posted 23 hours ago Aero engines are constant power demand (You might sit on cruise power for hours), Motor Bikes are intermittent demand, cruise is usually a long way back from max, even jetskis and skidoos are intyermittent power. So different heat input. You can email the Manufacturer's service department and most will email back the correct material within an hour or so. 1
facthunter Posted 22 hours ago Posted 22 hours ago Rotax are getting out of 2 strokes for Planes. I lot of the reliability is in the hands of the Operator. When they were more universal, I've seen some engines I wouldn't run as a Lawnmower,, still being flown. Little compression and rattly when pulled over. Now they are pretty RARE and there's not a lot of Real Knowledge about them. Even your off road trail BIKES NEED REGULAR SERVICING to ensure a trouble free ride. I've never had a 2 stroke even falter but I'm Very careful WHOSE planes I will fly. I will fly something a bit suss ( do a test) if there's Paddocks all around and no trees to have to climb over. Nev

Notes about not being suitable for aircraft are just arse covering same as most ultralight stuff. 1
Student Pilot Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) Used to use chain saw 2 stroke, upped the rate to 35/40 depending on plug chop from cruise. That's from a long time ago. Used in Robyn 440, Rotax's 447, 503 and 582. Memory could be unreliable 😄 Edited 16 hours ago by Student Pilot 1
