    That set up at Narromine would be more affected by weather and age than any other cause, I Doubt it would ever have been over stressed until weakened. How much Lift is Possible. ??? Easily calculated C/L A o A Wind speed and wing area. Easily 2-3 times the weight of the Plane I would suggest. As for stress on the cable, quite a few factors come into Play How straight it is when the cable becomes tensioned? How Jerky the Load is and how large the Planes inertia when it's jumping about in the wind. A quantity in Proportion to it's Mass. Nev

    It has NO floats and is probably a lot cheaper and More available than the Schebler. Having no venturi, It's Probably LESS prone to Icing but I know a bit of fuel sometimes drips on the ground when starting. I'd be happy with the Mechanical Injectors and the GAMI treatment on the 360. It's NOT a troublesome Motor.. Mounting the Carb directly to the Hot Sump (as original) Probably Means Icing is not a great Issue. Power off approaches with a Hot Muffler as a heat source can't be relied on. Nev

    Chains would be easier to check. That wire rope has been there as long as I can remember. Irrigation areas CAN have more salt than the Beach. Nev

    I can't see how it's Totalled either. The rear and Motor is undamaged. Maybe the Photographer doesn't know how the Plane LOOKS undamaged. That Lycoming runs the air/mixture through passages in the alloy sump which cools the Oil and heats the fuel Mixture. It also causes sludge Build up on the cooled surfaces. That Floatless Carb is Made by Rotec. Nev

    There's a way of reducing that Lift by fixing a roll of something along the top surface of each wing. 2 struts have broken so both wing structures are suspect damage by twisting forces. Nev

    ACE never built a water cooled engine and were Bought out by INDIAN . The 1927 INDIAN 4 WAS called the Indian ACE only THAT year . Ignatz Schwinn was the Builder of American Henderson- Excelsior Bikes and Schwin pushbikes. The Hendersen was the Basis of the Heath-Hendersen Four Aero conversion, which has a special deep aluminium sump and some had OHV conversion . A lot of Parasol type Planes were Built Of which the Pietenpol is the largest . As far as I Know the Pietenpol was designed for the Ford 4 Cyl Motor. In the Late 20's there was a competition for Motorcycle engined Light Planes. I suggest there's a bit of confusion with that event. ALSO the Ford A came out in 1929. replacing the Long running Model T which would have been a better source of a cheap motor to swing a BIG Prop which is essential in such a Large Plane. Motors from a New Model A would have Been expensive and Heavier. Excess Metal was chiselled from the Motors to Lighten them. Tedious but not costly. The essence of the design was it's Low cost and rugged simplicity. This was at the Beginning of the Great Depression resulting from the stock Market crash of 1929. Schwinn Closed his Business in 1931 with the KJ Henderson and Excelsior Super X Models and continued making Pushbikes. Nev

    He's only got to do what He eventually did. The horizontal; stabiliser is very strong and the Plane did not pitch Up. You do the drop as slow as it is safe to do and with smaller planes you have a Lot of rudder on with people hanging on a strut and standing on the UC leg. It IS B dangerous. No doubt about it. Nev

    In earlier days the Interiors had flame overs where People died from the toxicity as well as the Flammability of the Interior materials. You also often could not see. There were TACTILE indicators for the cabin crew to Feel where they were. Nev

    There's 2nd and first class ATPLs You have to have a First Class Licence to Log "In Command" Hours but often the TYPE Endorsement standard is the same for Both crew meaning that In the event of an Engine failure the Co Pilot is able to control the Aircraft Legal and qualified... IF 2 Ist class ATPL's are operating there Must Be A DESIGNATED In Command Pilot decided CLEARLY for each Leg or situation.. ICUS Means in Command under supervision and is Logged as Command. Co Pilot time is only counted as 50% of the flight duty time. To get a Ist ATPL you must have a Min of 1500 Hours in command, There Used to Be a SENIOR COMMERCIAL Licence which I have. but it's no Longer recognised as of about 1993. ATPL's are an Airline thing where you operate under an AOC (Air Operator Certificate ) that Must be valid for the Organisation you work for. and you operate according to their CASA Approved Manuals.     Pilot's do 4 simulator sessions a Year and several Line checks. Failure to Perform satisfactorily on any occasion Means NO flying. They can also be medicalled out for alcoholism , Mental issues Personality disorders. etc.. Nev

    Usually doing a high one like CME/IFR covers all things below.. This "Slow and Draggy" thing is over emphasised. IMHO. Once you understand the Issues an demonstrate competence you are unlikely to forget or ignore them.. Plenty of Instructors would fly 5 different planes in a day. At the Other end of scale, Complex Heavies, Multiple Endorsements are Not allowed for fear OF CONFUSION. You will be Licenced to fly ONE RPT type on which you are current. Flying Light aircraft excluded as Long as Flight time limitations aren't exceeded. Jumping into things like A Pitts are even encouraged by some Progressive Airlines. Nev

    And Burned carbon fibre is really hazardous.. Even small oil leaks are a big fire risk and oil mixed with Dust More so. Nev.
