  1. BTW - Tim is alive and kicking. He is out of ICU and on the repair. One leg had to be amputated below the knee, but Tim is taking it all in his stride. He is alive - that's the best bit!
  2. Is there any update on Tim's condition at all??
  3. LOL! Yeah... and that overlay just happened to be right where this China owned AD is. Yup! I'd believe it!
  4. Let's get back on topic - This is not about Clive. I am curious as to WHY an airport owner would want it removed from Google Earth. What's to hide?
  5. So.. This was just sent to me.... As of 2016, the project is owned by Chinese state-owned Hong Kong-based CITIC Limited and according to the company represents "one of China's largest investments into the Australian resources sector".[13] On 15 July 2017 the private Cape Preston - Sino Iron Aerodrome [YCPR] was opened. About a dozen flights land each week. Nominally aimed at fly-in fly-out travel for company staff, it has drawn criticism from the United Australia Party for its possible strategic uses. So what don't the Chinese want us to see they are building in the Pilberra? Hmm... very interesting!
  6. Oh no... Its there and complete alright! OzRunways also still has the Sat view of the beautiful tarmac!!! I am just wondering what is so special about that strip that google earth needs to cover it up! LOL!
  7. Hey all, So, I am not a conspiracy junky by any stretch, but can someone explain why the Cape Preston airport has been rubbed out of google maps? (YCPR) I went to show a mate today, and it's gone! And you can clearly see where Google has patched the map. FYI - This is the AD that Clive Palmer was banging on about. Hmm... Very strange indeed!!!
  8. G'day Mate, I own and operate FPV Australia - just outside of the ACT. We often run courses in Canberra, and would be happy to have a chat to you about what you are looking for, and if licensing for you is even necessary. I am proud of our reputation within the industry that I have been a part of for 13 years. ( We started Mongrel Gear back in 2006). Anyways... Happy to help or supply you with any info you need etc etc. Cheers John
  9. OK Lads, I have had it confirmed with RAA.... If all maintenance is carried out, as per the ROTAX requirements (rubber replacements etc etc) and is all documented, then the use for private use only is supported by RAA running "on condition" past the 15 years. Of course, no hire, or flight school etc, which makes some sense. But to rip out an engine from an aircraft with only 400 hours on it, when it has not given one lick of trouble, is mad, and gladly agreed to by RAA. ? Happy days. J
  10. Interesting Paul, as that contradicts the info I have now from a number of sources. Can I ask where this information you have provided can be sourced? Cheers J
  11. Hmm... Might send them an email - It has never arrived.?
  12. Hey all, Does anyone know if RAA is still sending Rego Cards for Aircraft? I have not received mine, from about 2 months ago. Website states it's registered, just no card in the mail. Cheers J
  13. You would have to order it from the USA - it's $1300 USD
  14. Hmm... I think so! I am not near my bird - can you send a photo - I will tell you!
  15. Thanks Yenn. I will not be removing any primary instruments. I may choose to remove the old crapp Tru Trak, as it's playing up. Not vital, so I could simply remove it all together! But why not replace with this flashy new instrument. ?
  16. I don't think I do actually. Its not a primary instrument, and none of them are coming out. No different from installing a clock!
  17. There is a button on the controller, at the bottom below the sliders I think. Its the priority button. If you don't push this, the call volume will be dropped significantly when radio is detected. Took me ages to figure it out! LOL!
  18. Hmmm... I would love one of these in my bird! The AV-30 could nicely replace my crappy ADI, but I am wondering what the rules are considering my bird is 24 registered??
  19. Yep. Thanks mate. My LAME advised me to open the oil filter and make sure it's clean - so that's what I do. ?
  20. Yes I do. nothing on the magnet last time, and nothing in the filter either.
  21. OK... So here's an update. Aircraft has been sitting for a little while now, and new leakdowns tested on a stone cold engine. Results were 77/80 78/80 78/80 78/80 Leakdowns don't lie. So I am happy to continue on as normal. The leakdowns, colour of the oil (still looks new), no oil use and colour of the plugs confirms that the motor is fine.
  22. Some really interesting discussions lads, but I think we are getting away from the original question. More research is telling me this is all normal. Remember, my engine is NOT tightening up - As in - more than normal. It's the opposite - it gets loose cold.\ I will keep you posted. Was going to try and get to the bird on the weekend, but ran out of time.
  23. So I have done lot of research in the last few days, and I have come to the conclusion that what I am experiencing is most likely normal. I will still do another leakdown test, but I am not much worried anymore. Firstly - Why would the procedure ask you to warm the engine to operating temps before doing the leakdown. If there was no difference between hot and cold, why bother warming it up! LOL! Secondly, heat will cause things to expand - it can't be any other way! Anyways... I will do the leakdown (hopefully in the next few days) just to be sure!
