Ozzie,
I am guessing you have at least one famous relation... He was on Hey Hey it's Saturday wasn't he?
Lol

-
You do realise of course Turbo that you are vilifying at least 10% or our Ra-Aus membership with that sort of statement... I mean the "Warning, some people may be disgusted" part. As a 40 something year old straight male I have found nothing to fear from homosexuals or homosexuality... In fact numerous studies have found that homophobia is directly related to unresolved homophobic feelings. Parents are parents... end of story. You wouldn't suggest that just because a couple divorces that their children should be taken away from them because they are no longer a Male/female couple would you?"Marriage for all"? Well the "husband" and wife shown in the link photo (Warning, some people may be disgusted) aren't going to contribute progeny for the survival of humanity. Its all there in their words.
And as for the other stuff... that is exactly why I will vote for the Greens... Its about time this outdated policing of people's freedom of choice is stopped.... because the current system of enforcement has done nothing to stop the problem... and has in fact cause untold damage.
Of course that is just my opinion... based upon evidence and experience instead of hysteria... and just as I am not a homosexual I am not a drug addict in case you were wondering. lol
We can go around and around in circles trying the same old stuff... but show me a single peace of evidence that any of it has worked. I wonder how many of us are sitting with an alcoholic drink in one hand and a ciggy in the other as we smack our heads and say "Bloody druggies!"... Ironic? You be the judge.

Walter... Don't believe everything you are reading here in regards to Green policy. If we don't look after nature doesn't it automatically follow that there will be no animals to hunt? And perhaps when we look at it logically there are airports around the country that would be better shut... Doesn't change the fact that there is no political party giving any support to private aviation in this country and that more support is desperately needed be it Greens/Lib or ALP.
I think considering voting for the Family First party is the most alarming thing I have read on here... Great idea... Lets elect the Christian Taliban and see what happens to your rights.
-
Jeez Riverduk... At least it makes a refreshing change from blaming Asylum seekers for the imagined woes of our future.
The Greens aren't perfect... but they are the only party with the survival of humanity at the heart of their policy. And that can't be a bad thing.
-
Having had the Greens in government for the last 10 years I guess you should expect that.... Hang on... wasn't it the Liberal party that ruled for most of the last ten years? If you think Ozzie's off the track, just have a think about the status of aviation now, and ten years ago in the areas you know about.Sorry to be a stick in the mud but... I fly and I am voting Green.

Flying Dog... I spent hours last night trying to find the app... when I first saw it I had only had the phone for a short while and didn't download it.Winsor68:Please, can you tell me the name of that APP which acts like an EPIRB?I could not find it which suggests several possibilities...
1. I imagined the whole thing.
2. It has been removed.... possible because all the apps I saw last night which offered anything like this did not have a function to send a message after getting a shock... but there are several that will send an "SOS" if you hit a button with location etc. So perhaps the app was there but did not do what it claimed so was removed?
3. That it is still out there waiting to be re discovered.
I will keep on looking because it has got me stumped!

I wasn't whingeing to you coljones... unless this is an advertisement for Telstra in which case I recommend you take out advertising. This is a Recreational Flying forum... I suggest you leave your work at work.Don't complain to us about the lack of alternative service in your area complain to the providers or to the ACCC or to the Minister. It is not a Telstra dastardly trick being pulled but a dastardly trick by to carriers who won't provide you with services. Your Telstra phone works doesn't it? The carriers don't "get" a service, they either they provide one or they don't. Go whinge to Optus just don't whinge to me!!!The reason I hate Telstra is not because of the coverage... it is because of the... what word best describes it... abysmal customer service I have received over many years of being a faithful Telstra country customer solely because there is no competition for coverage in the rural areas I have lived. This of course is my personal opinion based upon my personal experience. Having had no experience with the other carriers I cannot comment, but have heard similar stories of difficult customer relations with them all... and most particularly about their abysmal signal coverage. If I was a Vodafone or other phone customer I would probably hate them too.
In my opinion we are being sorely serviced by telecommunications companies in Australia.

If you don't speak up nothing will change... Like I said... this election like so many others we are being given a smoke screen... almost like the politicians (while exactly like) know that by throwing out these stupid emotion grabbing policies you won't notice what is really important...
Get informed and have your say.
-
Sadly it is about voting for the lessor of two evils... We have been subjected to so much BS from both sides this election there really is very little to compare between the parties. The important thing is not to decide your vote on policies that are just a smoke screen for the real issues facing this country's future.

The final consideration was the network. Yes Telstra has NextG but there really isn't that much between Telstra and Optus now.
I HATE TELSTRA... but should point out that the difference between Telstra and any rival is VERY VERY noticeable in rural Qld... Telstra (and again I HATE TELSTRA) is the only carrier that gets full coverage even in the township of Mackay where I live.... So as much as I HATE TELSTRA... all our phones are with them.
But don't worry Ian... if you come to Queensland for the Monto Flyin next year I will lend you my hateful Telstra phone to ring home... Unless by some miracle things improve for the other carriers now Telstra is starting to get some notice for its hateful anti-competitive practices which I am sure extends up here to keeping its rivals from attaining coverage for much of rural Australia.

I wonder if they could get the fuel consumption and takeoff noise to more acceptable levels with today's technology?

I love that RV3. Always thought one of these would be great Ra-Aus.

I would be very interested in what you have to say about testing from an industry perspective Old Man Emu... It is my opinion that there are serious problems with the way testing has been implemented at the industry level... and serious breaches of civil liberties are being committed. As a retired Constable with thirty years' service, and my organisation's DAMP Supervisor, I believe I have the qualifications to make a comment on this topic. From my experience of CASA D&A testing, I formed the opinion that the process has been instigated without due reference to Common Law and practicality. As a quick comment: Police Roadside Breath Tests are a screening measure. They normally only detain motorists for one minute. If the test is negative, it's "On your way, Driver" No record is made of the driver, except for the registration number of the car (that's a supervisory tool to make sure the police aren't fudging their work)
The same test by CASA takes half an hour and detailed records are made.
I can't say all I want to at this time due to work pressures. I intend to write what I think should be submitted and post it later.

Interestingly in the couple of years that I have been following the young bloke and the Pdacts its seems there is some sort of resurgence going on... there is new footage showing up on Youtube and they are in production still in the US and selling well.
-
Cfi,hey win!....if it's like u say...then "bring on the testing"..I must live in another world where pilots value their licence so much that they would do nothing to compromise it....The problem is with ground ops... I am not saying Aircrew don't have their own issues.
It makes a joke of safety in the air when there are 10 people on the ground responsible for the safety of the aircraft before the Aircrew take over who have no safety net.
-
I agree testing is a good thing... but I have grave concerns about the way it has been applied in my particular area.
The testing has only been applied as a punishment at my workplace... and only once. It has been applied as a means to root out the "druggies" but being affected by alcohol early in the morning is still seen as ok. I mean why would you test your staff at 10 am when the "drunks" have sobered up when it is known that this is the problem?
One gentlemen who used to work for my company but left when they bought in D&A testing returned some months later with another airline job with a different company... I met him in the terminal when I arrived for work one morning... He said "I just got drug tested"... I asked how he went...He said "I passed and I had bongs last night!" So obviously the testing is not effective.
Meanwhile CASA and the airlines does not seem to care that its contract workers are spending 15 hours plus at work per day, 80 hours plus per week.. walking around like zombies with no rules regarding hours worked. I regularly work consecutive 15 hours days (and because of the 'casual' nature of so much of this work don't get paid for them all)... Some days I am lucky to make the first corner driving home.
My new mobile phone alarm tells me how long it is until it goes off in the morning to get up... I have not seen it tell me I have more than 4.5 hours to sleep per night in god knows how long.
99% of airlines use contract staff for their ground services, and the Contract companies seem to be only interested in their profits at the expense of safety.
So... bring on the drug testing, make it effective because at the moment it certainly is not as applied by contract ports, BUT, don't think for one minute that it means anything when other very serious safety issues are ignored.
The only option as I see it is to get out of the industry...

- This is the latest video from a young bloke who I became Facebook friends with about a year ago due to our shared love of aviation. He has been restoring a Pterodactyl Ultralight in his garage in the US... Recently he did an internship with the company that still produces these machines and... The bloody little legend went solo the traditional way.
Have never met him but seeing this guy achieving his dreams and flying solo just makes me so proud.

Order arrived
Arrived home from work last night and a parcel was waiting for me from Clear Prop...
What great value!
Dyson Holland study books, Nav Computer, rulers and a Recreational Flying Headset.
I haven't used the Headset yet but can say that it is very comfortable and looks to be great value for the price...
Thanks Ian.

And perhaps a little like a broken pencil... pointless.

I too have been invited to attend... not from an Ra-Aus perspective but due to my work.
For me the cost would only be about $60 using staff travel... Not sure if I am going to attend yet.

You blinky little ripper Darky!!!
Congratulations...

Hang about... we are the monkeys (including the politicians)...
