DittoAs others have said before me, depends on the strength. If its a "normal" x-wind, just crab it down, then kick it out in the flare. However, if I think the strength is mrginal for the x-wind limit of the aircraft, I slip it all the way down, that way you will know early if you don't have enough rudder to complete the landing safely. Certainly looks in a reasonable condition.
A great way to really have some fun flying! I haven't flown a Scout as such, but fly a similar 95:10 from time to time, real flying by the seat of your pants!
They aren't all that fun when you get to high, so ideally you need a big open paddock with low flying permission, and a Low Level endorsement.

That would be awesome! Hope to be there also.Hi Tomo, hope to get a few to Inglewood this year, i'll take you for a fly. Thanks everyone, certainly looks fun.

Awesome Mate!
One thing that really helped my flying, I reckon, was flying other types of aircraft... you may not be so fortunate to have to many options, but I travelled around the place, and am signed off on nearly every school in the area! The benefit of that also, was I have flown with many CFI's, each one being a little different from the other, you pick up things that you mayen't have seen/thought of before.
Gliding is also a really good way to "get to know how to fly properly" and it teaches you how to operate the aircraft at it's optimum, in my opinion.
I'm not really sure where you fly, and what aircraft... but If you aren't just flying for the sake of 'getting all the endorsements and that's it', then trying on different aircraft, even at different schools is a pretty good way to expand the skill/knowledge base.
As for X-country, that's when the fun really starts to happen! It's pretty satisfying to 'go somewhere', try and do that ASAP if you can I reckon, as I know some people that get bawked by it, when it really isn't any harder, than learning to fly itself! I know in your case it's not a matter of that, but just thought I'd mention it.
Just a few thoughts from my little brain

Thanks everyone for the help! Awesome!

Now all I need to do is check it all out...
That's what I reckon Ed, I suppose I'm more looking toward the Aerochute, rather than the powered back packs. But they look like fun Too!

All this talk lately about a PPC has sparked me to look into it a bit....
What's involved in Training to fly them? Costs involved etc? Any instructors in the SE Qld area?
Also, I could easily build one myself... what is the requirements? Do they need to be certified designs? Etc...
Here's your chance to shine PPC drivers! Tell us what you know.... thanks :)

I'll have to come down to your place one of these days Ozzie.Think Slower guys 40/45mph. max -
Sadly I won't be there this year

So make sure you all get a good lot of photos!
If only it wasn't over easter it would be a lot more manageable! Got three things on that weekend I'm supposed to be doing/attending

Yay! Go the Drifter!! :D
Definitely do it if you can, it's great fun!

Makes perfect sense....... for aviation.

Thanks Dazza, I'll pass on the credit!
Well I thought it a bit strange too Gnome, but the view was pretty good once in the air, considering. And like any aircraft like that, you look down the side on landing, slipping it in to see where you're going. Very nicely built I can assure you!

Went to Tassie the other week for a conference, but made a holiday outa it and stayed for a week, ended up doing 2072klm, just looking around at different places. The weather was great, and as I couldn't stay on the ground in such good weather, I managed to get a few flights in!
First was in the R44 around Cradle Mountain area -
Went and Checked out a mates new plane he was making - a "Hatz Biplane" This is one of the wings in production.
He does an amazing build job on everything
His Scout
One of his completed projects - 1929 design Pietenpol - A beautiful aircraft
I loved the mag switch!
Dual ignition Ford Model A engine
He makes his own props too!
I was lucky enough to get a ride in it, that was pretty cool!
Then last but not least, good O'l Qwerty took us for a run around George Town and the area...
My brother who is a bit of a photographer went up with him and they did some shots with the door open... here's just a couple of them from Him:
Here are some of his shots of the various flights as well - much better photos than mine, and he has let me show them to you, so here are a few more:

Different views...
Myself and my Brother (Brady - aka Iconindustries)
And just showing The Nut and Stanley - a Panorama
Looking towards Cradle Mountain

Yeah, so there are a few views of Tassie... and as I said to one lady at a shop when I got there... I'm glad you take Aussie dollars.

On the subject of using the whole runway...
Depends what I'm in, but if there's crosswind from, say, the left, I take off on the left hand side of the runway. The main reason is to make use of the 'curve' of the runway (if it has one that is) to put the into wind wing down a bit.

Well done!A quick one... I wrote a little article about my flying experiences up until first solo and it was accepted and printed in the April edition of Pacific Flyer magazine... Out today!!!
Ok, I'm excited because it's the first time I've ever been published... In anything!
Just needed to share!
The Mags love an interesting story, so it's great you sent it in to them! I'll be buying that edition just to read it :D
Keep it up!

I'll bite even if I'm not a girl :star:I mean how hard can it be, they let girls do it?

Thanks, reinforces the need for concentration in the right direction!

Nice one Dave!
Welcome along, great to have you.
Nice to have a great job, I suppose I can't complain much, I've got some mighty decent friends, and one of my bosses has a few different aircraft plus a couple choppers... ;)
I'm hoping to get my own aircraft soon (as in the next year or so) and use it for work, save doing a million miles each month on the road anyway! (Mobile Mech)
What mine you working for up there? You do all the radio gear in the machines do you?
-
Tail wheelers superior to nose wheel aircraft in almost every way, stronger, faster, lighter and here is why they are not as popular as nose wheel aircraft.
Nice vid, I nearly spun a TW around before, wakes you up! Managed to keep it, but it certainly showed me how easy it was to do with a bit of x-wind and tar.
-
Jandowae as well, not sure if it's still open these days or not, but it's a nice little strip there.
-
G'day Evan! Welcome along, great to hear from you.
Seems a lot of us pilots play some sort of musical thing... I play Trumpet, Sax, Piano and a few other percussion things... not very well mind you! But help out with local music events etc...
Great to hear about your flying, and see the video, thanks for that.
-
Nice video mate! Nice landing there too!

Off the top of my head... there's:
