  1. Brent I am sure will agree these locations on approach depend on the point of focus, not to be mesmorised by the narrowness or length

    Or what's off the end...

check this one out, and it's just two of many that MAF fly into in the Papua New Guinea area...

Got a friend who flew there for something like 20yrs...He's got some good story's to tell that's for sure...!

  2. Yeah good point Dunlop....I guess it boils down to how much of a hurry you are to getting commercial... If it's something you'd like to do in, maybe 2-3yrs, I reckon it's worth doing the RAA first, that way you can be building hrs and skill up, in much cheaper to fly acft...etc...

Well seeing that I gotten you in suspense Wallace, I'll try and clear it up a much as I can...025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif

When you do the RAA license, base on about 20 something hrs...you are only permitted to fly a maximum distance of 25nm from the flying field...and so to fly x-country you got to get a x-country endorsement etc...that's what I meant when I said to building up the endorsements...and also you can only carry one pax in the RAA system, ceiling of 10,000ft, and you can't fly at night...and there is a certain weight to go by, etc... not really up to scratch on all that stuff yet....

If you go to Welcome to Recreational Aviation Australia you should get an idea of what I'm talking about.....;)

But like Dunlopdangler said, if your wanting to go commercial, It's probably best to listen to what he says....025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif I just thought I'd run it past you that's all....

    Cheers,

  3. G'day wallace...

Have you considered doing/getting the RAA ticket first? it will make it a lot cheaper I think doing it that way....

The Raa license cost about +- $3500, and then you can build from that, Ie. X-country, tail dragger, etc...

Just a thought..., And if you'd like more information on it, I'm sure there is many a helpfull hand around here that will tell you more...

    Cheers,

  4. He is in the process of converting a J230 so he can fly it. He has no strength in his hands, but very strong arms.

That would be interesting to see how he does it...would he make the stick rotate around for the rudder or something....??

  5. I have noticed same thing when landing Jab J160Every now and then it wants to veer left on landing and it takes a fair bit of right rudder to get it going straight

When this has happened it has always veered left NEVER right!

Could the Tire pressure in the left be slightly lower than the right one...? or the brake is dragging a little...maybe...;)

    Just a thought I had....025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif

  6. Hehe good olf blaniks. Thats what i fly, and yes, your right, the creaking is insane =] So just outta interest Tomo, what kind of glider were you in? I was out at Boonah today gliding, but im mainly at warwick most of the time, darling downs isnt far from that is it?

    G'day Nathan,

Yep the Darling Downs Gliding Club is not real far from Warwick...It is actually at/near Bowenville... about 20mins out of Dalby heading towards Toowoomba....or about 45mins out of Toowoomba heading towards Dalby...

And the aircraft was a two seat "Puchacz"... which didn't creek and groan:clap:

I've included a photo of the glider (bit of a dodgey one but it's all I had:big_grin:), and also I've drawn a circle around the gliding field, just in case you didn't find it....;)

    Cheers,

    Tom

  7. Thanks Pete,

What camera am I using?... well mine is a Sony DSC-W5, 5.1mg pixel... getting around the age of 3yrs now... by the way I have enhanced them a little with a program called PICASA, It's a Google product, and it's free....It's only a 5mb download too so it's pretty good going:thumb_up: Here is a link to the program... Picasa 3: Free download from Google

Give that a go and it may even save your old camera's day....but if your thinking of getting a new camera, get a Sony, we've used and tried many different brands and Sony always give a nicer picture.....:thumb_up:

And just a bit of useless information to top off with....;) My Mum just got a new camera the other day, (Sony of course!), and it's got a smile shutter on it.... you can set it so when the person smiles it takes the picture, very intelligent I reckon....

    Cheers,

    Tom

  8. Well I went for my first Glider Flight Yesterday, very impressed with it...

Ok, first off, I had a briefing of how to use the parachute (if need be:nerd:), then climbed on board, strapped up, checked to see if we had full control movement of the stick, and then closed the canopy. (wouldn't won't to be much taller, only had a few inches to spare between my head and the canopy...)

The tug fired up, pulled out and lined up... another bloke put the tow line on the hook in the nose of the glider. tug pulled up tension on the line, then away we go... we were off the ground in about 30m and just sat at about 2ft off the ground until the tug got off the ground also... we headed east, and climbed up and released at 1800ft in a thermal, circling around to the right, climbing at about 350 to 400ft min... about eight minutes latter we leveled off at 6400ft...

We then did a bit of zig zagging over the ground, not going to far from the field... the instructor gave the controls over to me, and I had a great time flying back and forth staying at about 6000ft, (not so hot that way;))...

The time crept up on us and it was time to go back to the field, pulled out the wing brakes so we could loose hight, it was a great day for thermals and we had trouble going down, so to speak...

Joined the circuit, and then it was ready to land:crying:... anyway he made a good landing, we got out and pushed the glider off the strip.....and so ended my the first glider flight.....

Here are some pictures that I took of the Darling Downs, while we were UP there...

For those that are not farmers, the light brown/gold colour stuff is wheat almost ready to harvest, and the circle padocks are where they have a center pivot irrigation systems on them....

    Thanks,

    Tom

Ps. On the last pic... to the top far right hand corner you can faintly see Dalby in the distance... and then to the left hand corner is the direction I come from...(Cecil Plains) And that's Oakey creek in the forground...

  10. G'day Mr. Borrman, and 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif to the Forums....

I saw your display at the Amberley airshow for the first time, you do an incredible job, and I love your ability to perform and talk your way through the display at the same time...011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif011_clap.gif.8adfe837b4189ee6622bf4917d6a88c0.gif

Sorry about all the critical talk about you in this thread, I think I started it actually:sorry:.... where all human and make mistakes, so don't feel to bad about it, It's just a bit of a misfurtune about the little boy that's all.

You could possibly ring the hospital itself and ask about it that way, not sure if they give info out like that or not, worth a try though....if you explain your situation I'm sure they should help, surely...!

    Sincerely,

    Tom

  11. I guess I will have to come to terms with "distance",

Aust.. being such a big country you drive for 10 hr's in SA... you probably seen it all. (Especially if you drive like some of them do over here...)

There's an Ozzie joke about distances.... go's something like this....

An Ozzie went to visit a property in America, and the American farmer said to him...You can drive all day on my property and still won't come to the other side by sundown...! And the Ozzie says, Yeah Mate, I had a ute like that once.....006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Distance is just a scientific word for....Over there006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

  12. Thanks Zazoo, You don't have to worry about me not finishing my appren... It sort of comes a bit second nature'ly, mechanic-in that is...! been playing around with that sort of thing for my hole life so far....

Mr. Deskpilot, Happy Wedding Anniversary... "So we won't expect you to be on the forums tonight?, because your taking your better half out for tea.....isn't that how it goes...025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif:big_grin:006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Thanks for the compliment about my style.... Must come from living in the country... Ha ha:laugh:

Yes Rodney Stiff worked at Toffs engineering as a drafts person, worked along side my Dad's uncle, "Ray Scott" (who also helped design the first harvester)..... Dad also did his Apprenticeship there, back in its hay day...!

Ah, I better stop rattling on about Cane harvester stuff 099_off_topic.gif.20188a5321221476a2fad1197804b380.gif....

    Thanks Guys,

    Tom

    And to make a quid...sweat you will:big_grin:

  13. Thanks for that Zazoo,

I'm sure it will be a good day, I will be able to get me driving license, that's what I'm looking forward to the most, (well about a week after anyway, because you got sign a log book, and you got to be 17 to do that, and send it in, and then when they get it and check it out, that's when I can go and get the license.....)

Yes I enjoy working with Dad, well I have done since I was in Nappys:blush:...but with the appren... it gives me a trade (by 2010 hopefully)....

I'm looking forward to the flying training..... My ambition is to eventually fly for Mission Aviation Fellowship....don't know if you've heard of them, but they do fly in South Africa, and other places all over the world...

    Cheers,

    Tom

And if you plan to fail...fail you will;)
