  2. I just had this silly idea,092_idea.gif.47940f0a63d4c3c507771e6510e944e5.gif:hittinghead:

You know how you say it's landed, for all types off aircraft, but what if the airplane is a float plane....:raise_eyebrow:

You "watered" it, just doesn't have the same ring to it does it....006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif006_laugh.gif.d4257c62d3c07cda468378b239946970.gif

  3. G'day,

Just thought I'd put some photos on, of the Amberley air show that was on this weekend.....

Also I thought it would be nice too, if someone else also went to the show, if they would like to add some of there photos, that way we can share to those that couldn't get to go what is was a bit like....... Just an Idea:idea:...

Here is a very few of my collection of photos..... I thought the airshow was Awesome, and my favorite bits were the the 4.9m wingspan Pitts, the Castrol fella, Matt Hall's aerobatic demonstration, the F111 dump and burn, and the Awsome F18 Hornets:thumb_up:...... What was your favorite bit....question.gif.c2f6860684cbd9834a97934921df4bcb.gif

  4. smoket. that has been done. I recall reading in a book years ago, the tale of a glider pilot coming in low over a beach, just on dark

Hey i don't want to spoil the fun, but wonder what he was doing gliding in the dark... not a real wise move for a glider....031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

  5. ahlocks - now you're in trouble. 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gifBreezing through that site you mentioned, and am finding the Energy vs Power page reall interesting.

    Came across this part:

Energy Awareness and Energy Management [Ch. 1 of See How It Flies]

    See fig 1.2

    Energy conversion - Glide.

The 'Heat' in that image relates to what? The small amount of heat behind the gliding aircraft?

Is there THAT much heat behind the aircraft?

Also, this statement has limititations right?

"An airplane (like any other object) has potential energy proportional to its altitude. Every increment of altitude represents an increment of energy."

True - up until you start losing the earths gravitational pull... at which point you could land up at a very high altitude, with no potential energy. Right?

I think when he talks about "Heat" behind a acft he's implying Drag/friction, so coming in on a glide you have to keep you AoA right other wise you loose traveling distance by to much Drag/or heat as i think he calls it.... because the steeper the AoA the more Drag you've got, and so forth......and thats why you got to use full throttle to climb steeply... It's not just because your going up the hill......

(That's what I think anyway, if you've got something of a different thought, let me know, cause I might be wrong and just don't know iti_dunno)

What do you think of the way he calls a gain in altitude "Zoom" 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

    Cheers

  6. G'day Bilby54,

I've just read the post and was sorry to hear of the accident.... I just wondered if you fitted a fuel pressure gauge or flow meter to the aircraft, would you notice a difference in pressure if it was leaking out the carby? but then again if the pump was left on it may even show higher pressure because it has backed up in the line, and that higher pressure is what made it push past the needle and seat?

And with a flow meter you may notice the excess fuel usage....

Just thought I'd throw you a few ideas that maybe you could think about.....

    Cheers,

    Tom

  7. Yes Thanks motzartmerv, I have got and read a book called "PPL Book" by a fella called Jim Davis, and so I got a lot of good stuff out of that... I think anyway:big_grin:... www.jimdavis.com.au is the website of this fella if you have never heard of him before.....;)

Your and instructor aren't you? what books would you recommend or what books do you use for your students?

    Thanks,

    Tom

  8. All though this was not taken while i was flying, i thought you all might like to see it anyway. It was taken on the 22.02.07 while i was on a platform in Bass Strait.

If i was flying I think I would have went over it.

    Cheers

That's an AWESOME pic, with the lightning an everything:clap:011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

  9. Two Irishmen walk into a pet shop in Dingle, they walk over to the bird section and Gerry says to Paddy, "Dat's dem".

The owner comes over and asks if he can help them. "Yeah, we'll take four of dem dere little budgies in dat cage up dere," Gerry says.

The owner puts the budgies in a cardboard box.

Paddy and Gerry pay for the birds, leave the shop and get into Gerry's truck to drive to the top of the Connor Pass.

At Connor Pass, Gerry looks down at the 1,000-foot drop and says, "Dis looks like a grand place".

He takes two birds out of the box, puts one on each shoulder and jumps off the cliff.

Paddy watches as the budgies fly off and Gerry falls all the way to the bottom, killing himself stone dead.

Looking down at the remains of his best pal, Paddy shakes his head and says, "Stoof dat. Dis budgie jumping is too blink’n dangerous for me!"

Moments later, Seamus arrives up at Connor

    Pass.

He's been to the pet shop too and walks up to the edge of the cliff carrying another cardboard box in one hand and a shotgun in the other.

"Hi, Paddy, watch dis," Seamus says. He takes a parrot from the box and lets him fly free. He then throws himself over the edge of the cliff with the gun.

Paddy watches as half way down, Seamus takes the gun and shoots the parrot.

Seamus continues to plummet down and down until he hits the bottom and breaks every bone in his body.

Paddy shakes his head and says, "And I'm never trying dat parrotshooting either".

Paddy is just getting over the shock of losing two -friends when Sean appears.

He's also been to the pet shop and is carrying a cardboard box out of which he pulls a chicken.

Sean then takes the chicken by its legs and hurls himself off the cliff and disappears down and down until he hits a rock and breaks his spine.

Once more Paddy shakes his head.

"Stoof dat, lads. First dere was Gerry with his budgie jumping, den Seamus parrotshooting ... and now Sean and his hengliding!"

I'm sure you enthusiasm will hold strong once you get into it, and then you'll be stuck with it for a long time i'm sure.....

Even though I don't fly as yet, my first flight in an airplane (Cessna 182) was awesome, and it's stuck with me since.... Now I'm saving all my quid so I can learn myself......:)

Ps. Even if you where up front in the Dash-8, I think you will have a much nicer view at the ground in the Jab 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif006_laugh.gif.d4257c62d3c07cda468378b239946970.gif

  11. Did the bird survive?? :ah_oh: Looks like he's hanging there, pretty relaxed with what just happened. Also, what part of the aircraft is that? Where the right wing joins the fuselage?

G'day Craig, was just on google images looking up bird striked aircraft and came across this one, so I found out what it was off...

It's off a T-44a King Air airplane, and its hit the leading edge of the starboard side near the main fuse.....;)

Here are some more pics of the aircraft, and it's victim:laugh:

    Cheers,

  12. Yeah actually now that you mention it, our neighbour went there about 12months ago... It would be pretty nice I reckon.... but a wee bit far for me at the moment:sad:

And yes I think it was some sort of airshow cause there was a lot of people on the ground watching, It was just a video that they had on at the QUANTAS Museum at Longreach, talking about the 707 they have there... but pretty awesome all the same...
