  1. Yeah I know what you mean, and I've actually never been in any aircraft with no more that four seats "Cessna 182" is my biggest so far...... and only about three times in about 4yrs:sad: But thank goodness I found about the RAA because it's a lot more affordable to start with... as you know....

I'll try and include a picture of the 747 (taken by me) and the A380 (from google)...006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

There attached....... A big difference between the two thats for sure:big_grin:

  2. The price must be massive for the training, because when we had a tour through the 747-200 at Longreach the other week, I got some details of that aircraft... try and think of how much fuel they carry for a flight;) 196tonnes of it:sad: and each engine uses 2375ltrs an hour, an there's four engines......

Wouldn't it be cool to be able to go on one of the training flights:big_grin:

  3. Yep, I'm a Diesel/petrol Mechanic...2nd Yr apprentice.... but have been doing mechanics for a lot longer... My Dad's a Diesel fitter, and my eldest brother is also... I work for my dad part time, and where based at Cecil Plains (80klm west of Twmba), but where mobile so go anywhere..... within reason..........

"Scotts Mobile Mechanical" Thats who we are:thumb_up:

  4. Just in case the Q wasn't a wind up - 8 hours is the absolute minimum. The permitted alcohol level for for pilots is zero. Personally I would have thought you wanted to be on top performance for your lesson unless you enjoy wasting money. And if you are obviously the worse for wear when you turned up to fly, I would expect the school to knock you back & charge you for the wasted slot.

    Cheers (or perhaps not)

    John

Ditto I agree:thumb_up:... It's no use turning up and you can't think straight:loopy:

  5. Awife was very unhappy with her car and complained a lot to her husband.

'Buy me a surprise for my birthday!' she said. 'Something that accelerates from 0 to 100 in under 4 seconds!,....and I would prefer a blue one!'

Happy and excited she was counting down the days for her birthday.

And finally she got the beautiful present her husband had thoughtfully chosen for her....

... Apparently he's dead now .. but he died alegend!!!.......

  6. G'day Cralis, Just thought I'd clear up your mind about the coil thing you talked about, that you wait for on start up on diesel engines... They are called glow plugs used to pre-heat the combustion chambers on diesel engines only, they make it a lot easyer to start a diesel engine, and when the glow plugs die it's nearly imposible to start:sad:

And by the way they do actually make diesel piston engines for aircraft, mostly for the bigger versions like the Cessna 185 & 206 etc... look up www.smaengines.com and it'll tell you all about it......

    Cheers,

    Tom

Ps. I hope your TIF tomorrow goes well:thumb_up::thumb_up:

  7. G'day Cralis, Just thought I'd let you know about a book that I got... It's called "PPL" 'A Practical Book About Flying Safely' By JIM DAVIS (anyone else out there heard of it?)

It's a great book for explaining everything clearly and simply, (a bit like like Mr. Motzartmerv) he uses good decriptions:big_grin:... I don't think it can be used as a book for the exams though, but then again RAA is not PPL so it just might be able to-be:laugh:

But nevertheless It's a great book and well worth a look at, he talks about everything from finding a flying school, and 'what makes an aeroplane fly', 'In the Air', 'The aeroplane itself', 'The sky/weather', 'Navigation', 'Regulations', 'Radio', 'Human performance', 'Ops & performance', and even a section of bush survival!006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

I particulaly like the Navagation section, he explains the 'whirly wheel', reading maps and everything else required to get you "THERE" etc... so simply:thumb_up:

His website is www.jimdavis.com.au or you can order it from Bunbury Flying School, Ph. 08 9725 4145, email [email protected] well worth a look if you got time.....

Jim Davis him self has 10,000hrs training both civil and military pilots + 4000hrs doing charter, corporate flying, aerial photography, survey and sky writing, low level aerobatics, crazy flying and pylon razing........... He's got a flying school in Port Alfred, on South Africa's south east coast, with 25odd aircraft and 130staff....

Beter let you get your breath now:laugh:006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

    Hope I'm a bit of a help, not a hindrance:sad:

    Cheers, Tom

  8. I just remembered one other thing when I did my TIF.... the instructor said, try and LOOK at the HORIZON for your attitude and not at the instruments, all the time... because you'll end up needing the instruments for everything you do, and if for some reason your instruments pack it in, your gonna be in big trouble:sad:..... but somebody correct me if I'm wrong:big_grin:

    HAVE FUN:laugh:006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

    Tom

  9. G'day,

I did my TIF in a GA aircraft (Piper Tomahawk PA 36 or 28? can't remember), so can't help you with the J170... but I can remember that I did a bit a of sliding, but the fella said that I didn't put enough rudder in. I got it figured out after a while, well I thought I did anyway:big_grin:... but the 20-30 minutes goes very fast that for sure. "Time flys when your having FUN"..........

I did my TIF in at Toowoomba at the Darling Downs Aero Club, but they only do GA training... so I'm looking at doing my training at Dalby with Bob Keen in a J120:thumb_up:

    HAVE FUN:big_grin:

    Tom

  10. G'day Cralis,

It's a shame the instructor didn't let you do any other turns etc... at least you got the left turn 'down-pat'006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Its good to hear that you've started, I did my TIF about 18months ago, but haven't had time to do the training yet, getting closer though. Trying to do Yr12, and second yr part time diesel fitter apprentice, and every thing else sort of uses up all your time, and MONEY:sad:

    Cheers:thumb_up:

    Tom

  11. I just rang up CASA and they put on the mailing list, as easy as that, I don't even know if I got an ARN number myself...i_dunno

But I agree, I love the crash information and the close shave stories, they are very helpfull to learn from:thumb_up:

    Cheers:big_grin:

  12. Hello there,

Just came across a poster on a shop window advertising the Oakey Fly-In...

Rotors, Wings n Wheels, at the Museum of Australian Army Flying, Oakey (QLD) on the 18-19 October...

I don't know any details other than that, but thought there might be someone who hasn't heard about it yet and might be interested...

    Cheers,

    Tom:thumb_up:

  13. Hello Paul, Did you do that with Bob Keen, In dalby? That's who I'm hopeing to train with when I get anough money... He's a Nice guy:thumb_up:

Might run into you some time, I'm from Cecil Plains... Did you get to go to the Wings & Wheels that was in dalby the other month? It was pretty good I reckon:thumb_up:

By the way, what is the drifter like, my Dad isn't really keen on me training in that sort of aircraft, I think I may have to go for the Jabiru, even though it's a bit more exspensive...

    Cheers

    Tom:thumb_up:

  14. Yes Thought it must of been a Tiger Moth, Very nice...

    Tom:thumb_up:

  15. G'day Owen, welcome to the forums, although I've only been here myself a few days, I assure you it's good fun:thumb_up:...

I've been looking at your website, you've got some nice looking photos, I particulary like the bi-plane on your home page...

I don't fly anything as yet but am saving up the dollars so I can get a licence of some sort, I particulaly like the RA-Aus set up...

    Cheers

    Tom:thumb_up:
