Hehe...On the other hand, I was sitting at the clubhouse the other day, VHF going in the background, I was eating a pie and every time I went to take a bite, some bloody idiot would call turing base. In the end I just threw the pie in the bin. It just put me right off my pie. They should have been looking and waited till after my bite or commenced a go around. ;)
It is a pretty frivolous thing when you think about it ain't it?

G'day Merv, It's Ok... I've gotten over it now, and now that I think of it, he could've just been having a bad day..!;)
I fly at Dalby.
-
Awesome mate! it'll be a great felling being able to show others what we/you enjoy...
-
Like the others... There Awesome!
 -
Quote from that rotor forum~
He did actually ask if I was just doing it to annoy him! I said It hadn't even entered my head that is was annoying someone!;)Maybe they thought that you were doing it intentionally. -
Ok, so we'll see what they all reckon eh!Im gunna bring it up on the ASRA site to just get some discussion going on the topicFor those (including myself) who are interested what this bunch say, I found it Here!

I didn't start this thread to down the instructor... I just was interested because he did seem pretty ...ah... agitated....... and of course for a newly learned pilot, I felt pretty bad of myself:faint:I would love it if you could PM me the name of that instuctor :thumb_up:But It's awesome to see so many reply's, thanks again guys, I can now sleep peacefully tonight!

I won't shoot you down, that's the reason for this thread, to see what others think....Think back to your training days, on very short finals, the instructor is talking you through your landing or talking you out of a pear shaped situation, someone transmits and you cannot hear your instructor. Could be critical. If at a training airfield you have them in sight and broadcast, I would then look at it as poor airmanship (please don't shoot me down! :-) )I can remember a lot of times when the radio is blaring away when in training, especially on week end's, (there's a gliding field a stones throw away)... but you just have it turned to a volume where it's still hearable, and the instructor just spoke louder, if the calls had nothing to do with us that is!
And like I said, I see his/your point, and think it is a good thing to do if "possible", but like Dunlopdangler said, gyro's are very difficult to see and know if they've landed, or what there doing....!
-
Thanks for that guys, I can breath a little better now.............
As for talking about the price of rice in Russia, nah I didn't think that real appropriate!

As for being a little harsh, I don't have anything against him in the least, and I can see his point, but like you all said, I don't really think It's my problem at all that I call when he's about to land... though I'll try not to do it from now on if I'm in the position to have a choice.

I am just interested in hearing what others have experienced, and or have I missed something in the books?
Went and talked to the gyro flight school today, and the instructor asked me what I've been taught about airmanship? I was not real shore what to say! because airmanship is a variation of a lot of things! I ask why, and he said, well nearly every time he was about a foot off the ground on landing, I'd come onto the radio.......
Happened three times apparently, I just happened to fluke calling downwind just when he was in a critical phase of training someone to land....!
He said it's good airmanship to see where the other aircraft is (which I do of course) but wait until they've landed, or well before they are starting to land before calling on the radio.... I said it makes perfect sense, and I am glad he pointed it out to me...
So does anyone else actually do this, or have I missed something somewhere? I've read a lot of books, but have never actually come across anything like this... I know it's just common courtesy now that its been pointed out... And If its in part of our training, I've probably been told, but it just didn't sink in!

Thanks

Thanks heaps to all... makes it last longer when you all say something!
Merv: Looking at my log book now, I've got: 21.1hrs dual, and 5.1hrs solo, so that makes a total of 26.2hrs......... that's about 18 lessons I think! = 18 weeks, from being a bystander to a pilot.... whoohoo!!how many hours have you logged??..XC now??XC next all right:thumb_up: though it could be a little while off, 'cause I've got to go to TAFE for like six weeks! spread through out the next few months, so that may hinder me a bit, but we'll see..........!
Thanks again:thumb_up:

Yeehaa, I've now got my restricted certificate, (well I've signed the papers!) so it's a pretty good feeling:thumb_up:
Will probably jump in the J120 next week and see if I can master that as well:thumb_up:
At least 25nm is a bit more interesting than 5nm........

That one at Cecil Plains, I'll have to go and check it out one day... not far from our place (from the air)
-
Great read Gomer:thumb_up: It sounds like your coming along very well.
Welcome on board to, as you may have already found out, it's a great place!

Cheers,
Ps. Don't worry about O'l Slarti's encouraging words about your spelling, He's a bit like that!
Though he does like my French!! -
Gee, what where doing to it to do that?!sure is better than $45 every 20
-
What sort of pricing would you be looking at?I own a Bantam B22S (its for sale if you're interested) -
That video on the website is pretty cool, landing and taking off in hardly any run at all...!
You know, with a stall speed of 23kts, you could tow hang gliders with it... wouldn't that be cool!
-
That's cool! It seems to work Ok to...
-
People's opinions, or likes and dislikes are what makes this world interesting, imagine if we all only flew Jab's! there would be a pretty little talking point at fly-in's because I already know what your aircraft is like...!!

It's up to the customer if he wants to purchase a certain thing, and the reason he purchased it was because it was what he wanted and could afford, or it appealed to him/her... not because it was forced apon him, and now he's got to put up with it!
I had to smile one day, when showing another woodworker my pens that I make, he commented, saying, "you should make them like this, (showing his to me)".... I said well yeah, it looks good, but how many do you sell? "He said, well not a lot".... (and I felt like saying, Well yeah, that's because they look like the one's everyone else makes!) so it just depends on who's smiling the most to who sells the most, in that case....!
So variety is no problem to me............
Ps. Sorry got a bit carried away!

Howdy Jeff.
It's great you liked your TIF, you'd definitely know what the theory side of things would be like anyrate, having been doing the CPL course...
About 3yrs ago I went for my first TIF in a Piper Tomahawk PA36, and I thought it was pretty easy to fly... now about 3yrs later I started training in a Drifter Ultralight to which I'm Solo in now, and have almost got my Recreational Certificate... only about an hr or so more to go:thumb_up:
Have Fun, and join in... You'd be pretty good on your theory subjects I suppose!

Looking down at the apron he gazed into the steely eyes of the ASIC card inspector.....
.......... Quickly collecting my thoughts, I hit the throttle and pulled the collective up, did a full three sixy, lowered the nose and was out of site before the inspector could get to his feet again...... the poor ASIC inspector was blown away (hehe) by the performance of this pilot, he certainly new how to maneuver it around! (What they say about Drifter pilots is true after all!)
He totally forgot to lay down the law on this white with red drip paint job of an R22 because he was still in awe.......................

G'day Zazoo,
Yeah, I'm not real sure why there isn't much about the Bantam in Australia, I was looking at one the other night on Ebay, it was a single seater which isn't much fun! but the price was pretty good, bit much for me, but I'm starting to look out for something within my price range.... whether it be a Drifter, Bantam, Thruster, X-air... or whatever happens to hit the right price!
I hope someone can shed some light on this for you,
Cheers,
Tomo

I was in the aircraft, and with an instructor aswell! and I did make my rolling call on the runway I was using just as he was about to land (there's two cross strips, and he was well out of my way on the other one) I should have probably said "gyro visible" or something in my call (to ease his mind that he doesn't have to look out for me!), but he was well out of the way...
And then there was one or two times more I did it to him (going by what he said) when I was calling downwind! and he just so happened to be in this landing phase teaching a student... when I would call and interrupt him...!
Anyway, I just guess he was having a bad day, and had to tell someone his wo's, and me being a new and learning pilot, I take it all as learning... Though it did confuse me a bit! But Recreationalflying came to the rescue...
Thanks to all, much appreciated:thumb_up:
