  1. Great idea, although straying quite far from the original intent of my thread. I might buy some of those, I'm.curious about the difference in temps between the two modules, since I imagine the top one gets more cooling airflow
  2. Possibly because he extended his gliding range 😉
  3. Already flying again. His reasoning for not lowering the landing gear was sound. A reminder that people die trying to save the aircraft.
  4. 70 year old fuel gasket 😲 https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c203v72wwp7o
  5. True. But it does give you a feel for what's happening inside these sorts of devices. The same principle applies - you get what you pay for. I believe though the main problem you could have with 12v to 5v switch mode is a dirty voltage. Which was probably covered in this thread. So a risk of interference, but a much lower risk of killing your device if the charger is cheap and nasty. I was so anxious about interference I bought a linear supply kit to put in my plane. I didn't end up using it. I mean, the se2 runs a lot longer than you can fly. I'm just using the battery. No daggy cables hanging around either 🙂 Edit, I see you are looking at other devices. Always aim for a higher charge current than you require. If the charger is ok, but not brilliant and you are cutting it close to the bone then you are more likely to have voltage sag etc, which you can see the effects in that article I posted. USB is a funny world, there seems to be limits I guess due to wire size in the cable. If I could, if I have a 2 amp device I'd want a charger that can do double that to be sure. In any case, the higher the better. One of the advantages of switch mode is that if it's not putting out much, it's not creating much excess heat in proportion. For instance, If you've gone nuts and somehow found a good quality 10 amp USB charger (I don't know that there's such a thing) then it won't be using much more energy than a 2.4amp charger if charging the same device. I imagine in fact this 10 amp charger will likely have a longer life because proportionally it's not working as hard. If it's a linear charger then yes it's just turning excess voltage into heat. Smooth and stable output, but hot and wasteful. I love them ☺️
  6. Haven't read all of this thread, and maybe I've actually posted this before on THIS thread but when there were some doubts about charging of the SE2, I just emailed them and got the info from the horses mouth. In essence they said just use any quality charger, they made it seem a little more critical than it is to discourage people using $2 temu crap and blowing up the device. I usually use the charger from my lenovo tablet, This article should serve as a great eye opener to why you shouldn't fool yourself into thinking that somehow your $2 piece of shit is from the same factory as a properly made charger just because it LOOKS the same: https://www.righto.com/2012/10/a-dozen-usb-chargers-in-lab-apple-is.html Incidentally, on the strength of this article I bought a HP touch pad charger to use for my C64.
  7. F-15 and B-17
  8. I guess we'll see more of this in the future https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cn5qk4de997o#amp_tf=From %1%24s&aoh=17582735976570&csi=0&referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com&ampshare=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.com%2Fnews%2Farticles%2Fcn5qk4de997o
  9. Most CL planes have a larger inboard wing
  10. Most of the fun is in the building of it for me. Which is why I built an ultralight. That turned out to be the most un-fun thing I've ever done 😄 Next model I'll build, probably once the ultralight is gone will be a club racer. Again like you say not particularly exciting to fly per se, the excitement there of course is in getting the best time. After that, I won a carrier model in the club raffle. We don't do carrier, but it's big and aerobatic. Will run a .35. has drawings for third line throttle so I might add that too for a bit of fun 🙂
  11. Doesn't matter if I use it or not afterwards if I have to have one for the tests.
  12. I'm flying rag and tube bushplane so I suspect I won't need that extra bit 😄 I'll probably go with the Jeppesen then. Thanks for the info 🙂
  13. VID-20250914-WA0001.mp4 Hadn't flown Lucky Lil Seven for over 20 years. Cox Medallion 049 with a 14 ml fuel tank meant it ran so long I fell over from dizziness once it finally stopped 😄 I've only been a member for about a year now. Was about time I actually flew something 🤣 Running on 20% nitro
  14. Does ra aus navigation exam come under ppl?
  15. I only got up to my first nav about 25 years ago, so now it's time to get back into it. First time around I had (still have) a Jeppesen CR-5. It looks bloody minute now! About to order some stuff. I recall seeing the ASA type computer, and thought they looked interesting, but my flying school at the time used Jeppesen. What are people's thought's on the pros and cons? One pro for Jeppesen is compactness of course, although the CR-3 is 6" . I think there used to be a CR-4, but even in the 90's it was discontinued. Also, what other bits and pieces will I need for studying? I'm ordering some new WAC and VNC. I still have an ASA ATC-RP1 ATC navigation plotter. Will also get a Flightrule navigation protractor.
  16. And who are the most successful lawyers? Criminal lawyers 😄
  17. I've run out of free articles, but the headline says it all 😄
  18. That Meteor actually looks pretty cool as a turboprop!
  19. Some undercutting from building contractors buying the cheapest quality parts can't really compare to aircraft and military equipment.
  20. Being a postie, I get to see the trials and tribulations of a lot of new buildings, right here in Brisbane. I can tell you that a lot of apartments after five years may as well be pulled down...
  21. So don't worry? Or do worry?.which is it?
  22. Fighter sized drone, almost certainly supersonic https://www.twz.com/air/chinas-unveils-large-unmanned-stealth-fighter-design-during-military-parade
  23. So a few months ago I was doing a lot of touch n gos on a damp grass strip, so of course got quite a bit of crap under the wings etc. I did a rough spot clean back then but last weekend I decided to give him a proper bath. Once a year whether he needs it or not 😄 Well, maybe he needs it more than once a year because when you're washing a plane, you are looking at parts of the plane you don't often look at, or at different angles for things you see all the time. I found three loose bolts on my radiator 😲 I know why, and it wasn't because of me. I won't go into that. But whether it's someone's elses fault or not, the buck stops with the pilot. I had an instructor who got me in the habit of checking random things you may not look at in your 'standard' walk around. I haven't actually picked up anything yet on my plane doing that (although I did find something on the last hire plane i flew), but I also do it with work vehicles, which have check lists. Sure enough, looking at random things NOT on that list meant I've found a number of faults most other drivers wouldn't notice. But back to the plane. Most of my random checks are INSIDE the engine bay. These bolts are outside the bay. And I haven't done many random checks of the airframe in general. So I'm going to step up those RBTs (random bolt tests 😄 )
  24. Unbelievably, there were survivors 😧 I don't think they would have faired too well though
