  1. SDQDI, Where did you find your helmet?. It is something I have thought about for when Bushbaby is ready for same reasons ( too many bars close to ones head). Cheers ClintonB
  2. We worry about little things like a splutter or miss in an engine, iPad failure etc , these aircrew not only had chunks of the plane missing to contend with, but being shot at as well. Makes one appreciate their bravery and will to get the job done and get home.
  3. It’s good that regular people can still do this after the events of 17 years ago. Nice way to sight see all those places without the crowds.
  4. Aerodynamicly clean design
  5. Roadkill is not all that bad, I don’t buy food court Indian because it looks the same going in as out.
  6. Finally a break in the wind if not the heat, I got to go for a fly in C182. I took my son for a ride to the coast with intention of landing at Old Bar for a dip in the ocean. Crosswind was more than I was comfortable with, so a quick diversion to Taree to visit some friends instead. Still a great day. Back in YSTW the tar was melting in Front of the hanger.
  7. I had to get an English language form, a transfer form for RAAus to RPL form, a form for the instructor to fill in with whatever endorsements I was adding to my rpl. If you have a cross country endo already it can go across when compency demonstrated ( everything goes past faster at 120knots,you really have to keep on it) but if you don’t you are limited to the 25 nm radius. Along with existing asic, proof of I’d and log book copies certified by a suitable person. Only just completed last month, so a fairly recent experience. Cheers Clinton
  8. HITC, I am only asking because my LAME who is helping with the Bushbaby rebuild got real jumpy when I suggested using graphite as a lube. Is graphite ok for use on 4130. He had explained that graphite works it way into the metal at a molecular level and can cause strength problems. I was going to use it on the same type of nylon block control mounts where mine go cross ways for dual sticks, They were binding and I ended up with 0.005" plastic shim material and grease in the end which freed up the controls perfectly. cheers clint
  9. that must be 1 tuff model and retract sets to hold him up. I WANT ONE!!!!!
  10. Maybe we need the training syllabus to be expanded to cover this more as part of our RPC. I know our local Sportstar was placarded "no spinning" and the stalls done during basic exercises introduces you to the buffet and gentle nose drop that occurs. I was told that using the buffet if occurs will indicate that you need to correct before the stall, But this does not help if you are caught out by inattention or distraction and a wing drop occurs. From what I have read not every plane uses the same recovery technique, so hard opposite rudder, close throttle, ease rudder off as spin stops, then exit dive gently may not help(this is what I have tried to remember just in case it is ever needed)- especially if you are too disorientated to figure out which way the spin is to start with. I would like to go somewhere and do a solid block of training in upset recovery with a good and patient instructor, I would consider this a good insurance policy for longevity.
  11. We could all take away from this that rules and regulations are there to be adhered to for our own benefit. A few individual mistakes or deviation from how we are taught to do things compiled together had this terrible result-which when reading who would want to put their family and friends through.
  12. Took my first solo flight in C182 today. Never sweated so much, looking across at the empty seat on the right made me think no stuff ups allowed. Once I was airbourne and completed that first circuits’ checks I felt better and more comfortable. A few more short hops on my own should do the trick. Just hoping the weather plays the game over the next few weeks.
  13. RIP all, I was only admiring that very aircraft circling as we left on a Cruise boat a fortnight ago.
  14. At least he can see the wind direction
  15. I have found the trend of black and silver caravans to be quite pointless (except for a new look) I have measured the wall temps at 30 degrees hotter externally than the white ones in same amount of sunlight. With 19 to 25 mm wall thickness an aircon struggles to cool the inside. Colours make a huge difference in heat absorption. Even black decals make the fibreglass sandwich panels gas up and bubble the surface.
  16. i supose "going down" when the inevitable happens wont work any more
  17. nose wheel please. some of us are still on traing wheels
  18. I hope that’s a moped on the way to a costume party and not a flying machine.
  19. This one should end on that positive comment and we all get on with safe, fun flying.
  20. Aren’t those guys insane. Too small of a hole in too big of a space for my liking. Still a brilliant job of timing..
  21. With you dual controls and pedals spaced that way in the picture are you seating in tandem offset to the side? Just curious cheers clint
  22. I have done my requirements for issue of RPL, eagerly awaiting my papers so that I can go flying again. Hopefully the weather will be nice to me and I can go out and try my first $100 hamburger (probably $200 or $300 with 182 fuel bill)
  23. look at the aircraft extremley closley. i bought what was a good price. only to have spent 3 years and 10k extra fixing and still havent flown it.
  24. I found the Stewart systems gear good on the Bushbaby repair areas after watching all of their Youtube vids to see how to prep, apply and paint-much better than reading about it. Seems to go a long way too.Only thing I would do different next time is use a flex agent in paint( I used PPG auto paint,) I have found that it cracks whilst working inside the airframe and bumping fabric.
  25. Looks pretty good to me. Wouldn’t mind parked in my hanger space. Big sub da woofer for gun noises would complete it.
