  1. Had a conversation with a fella in Tassie this afternoon. He has a LYC O-320B2C engine for sale, professionally overhauled and then pickled in Adelaide in 2004, it's still in the box. Was out of an R44 helicopter, but I see with some research some do use this B2C in aeroplanes. It has the conical engine mount, not the common dynafocal. It does have the oil sump for horizontal installation in aeroplanes. LYC manual shows B2C takes a fixed pitch prop. (seems it was destined for R22 though, or perhaps just not used in any other type certified aircraft) Would ideally suit an experimental aircraft. He was going to put it in a Baby Belle, that project did not proceed. The price seems real good to me. I'd buy it myself but my project is already set up for dynafocal mount and I have an engine. I have his phone number and email, but I won't post those here. PM me for that. First to ask "how much?" here will face the firing squad. I'm just trying to help the fella a little, you can talk turkey with him.
  2. Take a look at AWB 26-002 Issue 3 – 11 January 2018 Selection and Installation of Handheld Portable Fire Extinguishers
  3. OH..... Slant six = 475 lb. LYC O-320 about 268. There goes that theory right down the gurgler.
  4. Yep! Mopar magic though. It'll never happen, nice to wonder though.
  5. Thanks - I found it, I'll take a look there. Chrysler motor would be my poison, slant or hemi. I have a mate who has a race built Charger, routinely takes it to about 7000+ rpm.
  6. AUSTRO engines are EASA certified and fitted to Diamond aircraft. Based on a regular Mercedes automobile engine. Jet A or diesel auto fuel.
  7. What re-drives are available these days for automotive type engines does anyone know? Can't seem to find much of anything current on the innerwebs. Just curious about this sort of thing, I've always wondered how well an Aussie straight six would go in an aircraft. Containing one to about 3000 RPM as direct drive might not work, or would it.
  8. "Cirri" GOLD. (probably PC too?)
  9. Pffftttt....... Every landing I do I have no idea what I'm doing! You don't see me on the news! But aside, yep, this was a remarkable outcome. I find it interesting that somehow the passenger used some flying phrases on the radio eg "I'm passing 6300" (or whatever it was.) No passenger would say that.
  10. St Leonard's airstrip not an option Shajen? I don't know who owns it these days.... And there's another just north of there, west of Salt Lagoon. Or Swan Bay (Eon - Bay City Microlights). And there's a few others scattered on the Bellarine, all private.
  11. ASIC has nothing to do with CASA. Yes CASA just was for a time an "issuing body" - the same as numerous other players were and still are. I guess they decided it was even too hard or not worthwhile or BS for them to be involved with, so they got out of it totally. ASIC was not invented by CASA. My point is, ASIC is one thing we cannot blame them for, not even 0.1%.
  12. One more time.................... ASIC has nothing to do with CASA. It's not their baby.
  13. CASA does have "on condition" info in AWB 02-01 On-Condition Maintenance. Targeted at the VH world of course.

  16. Take your friggen spelling bee elsewhere peeps. FFS. We are interested in Serpentine event.
  17. Serpentine Victoria, north west of Bendigo. Sunny, 31 degrees. No storms. https://serpentineairrace.com.au/ No sign of an 0830 ARR limit on website, that will be a problem for many if correct. Bring back Valley Field air race in Tas, that was good, RENO is way better!
  18. Yep, indeed. What a thoughtful reply too, nice!
  19. Yesterday I met Sally, a young woman who operates a battery kiosk at our local community park. She sells C-cells by the seesaw....
  20. I saw a sign in a jewelers window that said "Watch batteries fitted, $12.50." I thought “Why would anyone pay to see that?”
  21. Abuse of power?
  22. Just fitted my third Odyssey PC625 battery in my gunship. 9 years old and still starting the engine first go every time. But it was showing only 11 volts static, so it was telling me time to retire it. New battery cost me $286 delivered, found on ebay. Retail price about $419 in store. Battery one I changed at 8 years. I have always used a 120mah trickle solar charger sitting on the cowling, sucking not a whole lot of daylight each day. I think that is the secret to long battery life. I'm currently sitting at 7 years on a bigass VARTA battery in my V8 road gunship. I usually have a 5 year limit on car battery use and change them before they pack it in. One time (no, not at band camp) I stopped outside the local auto parts store to get something, came back outside and my KIA's battery had died right there and then. Outside the front door. Maybe the store had ultrasonic weapons to destroy batteries outside their door. Or not.
  23. As a couple others have correctly stated, SAAA is not a self administering sport aviation org. We don’t do aircraft registration, pilot training and licensing. CASA administers VH activity. The pilot of this aircraft was not even an SAAA member. It has nothing nil and nought to do with us. Cowboys give all us recreational aviators a bad name. So many holes in this Swiss cheese lined up perfectly.
  24. VH-COOL - yeah, I'll take it.
