  1. If this is another pilot choosing to fly in poor conditions, it's another nail in the coffin for recreational aviation.
  2. Good grief!!! Not the sort of strip I'd be flying in and out of by choice.
  3. I watched it and was disappointed, I used to know an old guy that was there when that happened. Trouble is, as he got older I got the same story over and over, but the first time around, all his war stories were great. He didn't like the yanks though, said they were up themselves and trouble makers.
  4. What did you do it in? Did you use just the compass or did you have a directional Gyro or GPS? Always exciting regardless.
  5. I wish my Jab J170 would slow down like a Foxbat!
  6. It's a pity that the Evans Head website excludes so many people because they choose not to be members of Facebook.
  7. My Asus tablet runs Android version 4.0.3 (Icecream Sandwich) and thus can't handle Oz-Runways. I cannot upgrade the tablet either! However, I enjoy the map and compass navigation with my simple car GPS as a backup. cheers and beers....
  8. Old guys are guys that don't trust a fart, know what a valve radio is, got paid in cash and had their last drink a 6pm.
  9. Oh dear, again this forum has degenerated into mud slinging by the ignorant and nasty amongst us...
  10. Well, it's been awful here. I fly out of Gawler, SA and the only activity has been water bombers, about eight in the air continuously landing, taking on 3000 litres of water and then dumping it on the fires. Spectacular but so sad as well. Quite a crowd had gathered to watch the activities. I might manage to get into the air this weekend.
  11. I heard of one instance where three or four engine failures belonged to the same airplane owner who dicks around with his (or her!) plane like it was a go-kart or something. Then has the audacity to rubbish Jabiru engines. Long sigh....
  12. Why on Earth would CASA try to destroy aviation in this country? That makes no sense and it cannot be widely known because I didn't know that and I know everything, well according to my friends six year old. Anyway, if they did destroy aviation in this country, they would be out of a job. At least they are not (as yet) like the complete imbeciles that insist I do a one day course on using a ladder or frigging pencil sharpener. Those fools need to be beaten on the kidneys with large tree branches.
  13. It is. But they are my friends!
  14. This is the mob CASA sent to meet with Jabiru.
  15. Holy Moly - a complete re-install!!! That means you then have to go through the millions of updates etc. After tuning windows and my hard drive I cloned it. I then clone it once a week, that way, if the drive fails or things crash badly I just grab the clone and install that. No doing updates and reinstalling software. By the way, I use synctoy to backup new and changed data every day. Never lost a byte of data in years. The cloning software is Acronis - it came with my solid state drive. Works a treat. Windows backup is a bad joke.
  16. nothing seen here...
  17. Last years calendar shows Savannah aircraft at www.outbackaircraft.com but I get some "ftpquota" error when I go there. Any ideas?
  18. Actually, it was a stud, not through bolt.
  19. How Jabiru - how about fitting Rotax engines to your planes, I'm sure people would pay the extra cost.
  20. Just some rough (back of the envelope) maths. A turn of 360° in 60 secs at a radius of 600 meters puts your speed at about 122.2kts. An object on you OUTER wingtip 2 metres away is doing 122.6kts. An object on your INNER wingtip 2 metres away is doing 121.8kts. A difference of 0.8kts. Correct me if I'm wrong. No angle of bank factored into this scientific revelation.
  21. I would have thought the dial would be 'cramped' down around the stall speed (like most light aircraft I have flown) and a few knots would not be apparent.
  22. You'll find the fuel bill somewhat smaller...
  23. Hmmm, if the engine is switched off and is wind-milling and acting an air pump, carby icing could occur, or am I being blonde?
  24. Remembering that a closed throttle doesn't need much ice to choke off the air supply where as an open throttle needs a lot more ice to cause any problems. There is a good video around that shows this in a laboratory setting but I cannot seem to find it.
