  1. But, wasn't it suggested that the pilot of MH370 switched off all the tracking? That Jumbo (Korean Airlines flight 007) that was shot down didn't switch off its equipment. It (apparently) wandered off course and strayed too close to Russian sensitive airspace.

  3. Oh man, the new website is corrupting messages. The last one looks like double dutch to me...
  4. At Gawler, we have three windsocks and they can be pointing in three different directions at the same time.
  5. I used to be in the Darwin parachute club, jumped a few times over Batchelor. Way back in the early eighties. Much prefer flying a plane rather than jumping from one. I remember a few jumping into the Noonamah pub for a beer at the end of the day.
  6. I take my hat off to anybody who can enjoy flying a light sport aircraft in hot, bumpy conditions. I find it just awful. Good luck with your 'real' test. I'm sure you'll do just fine....
  7. "so they don’t get no satisfaction" is a double negative. This means they get some satisfaction. As simple as time travel and relativity (not).
  8. Holy Moly, seems not a surface has been left undamaged. Let's hope the pilot recovers quickly and tells us what happened rather than us making guesses and/or relying on bad press.
  9. Well, where I work, we have to do a ten page risk assessment, a five page SOP (Safe Operating Procedures) and a two day hands on course just to use a f**cking pencil sharpener. Then, we have to do the same sh*t again before we can use the pencil because it has a sharp point.
  10. Yes, I think that's correct. The folks at RAAus have done it manually so I can go in an edit the details.
  11. Hi. I am logged into the RAAus website, in Manage My Membership. I'm trying to get my flying hours entered. Trouble is, the list stops at 2015 and I cannot see how to add any more rows. Any help appreciated. I was hoping to do this tonight.
  12. Many years ago my instructor (Frank Page) asked if I was the type to jump out of the car in a panic if there was a spider on board. I said no. He said good because if you are that type, you could be in serious trouble if a big ass hairy spider ran out of the dash in the plane you're flying. I have driven my car a few times with a big huntsman running about in it and it's funny to watch folks pull up at the lights and act like you're in grave danger. By the way, this is an attempt at using a 'green screen spider ' in my video editing software. Pretty good job I think.
  13. Why not go for the J170D. 600kg MTOW, 135 litre tanks.
  14. I have flown as a passenger in the back seat at night. When it's black down there I wonder what one does when the engine quits. You can't pick a paddock, can't see trees, wires etc. I would not do it myself. Even over the city, it's scary, although very pretty.
  15. Well, if this were happening at work, we'd all have to do mandatory bullsh*t courses on how to be nice to each other and not offend those who are ABCD or EYTF or whatever it is.
  16. Mine was 36 years ago but I remember it well. Two circuits in the Tomahawk then the instructor (John Mariner) said okay, make this a full stop. He got out, told me to fly one circuit then put her away. Terror, excitement and relief. Glad it was a smooth cool day.
  17. The world would be a better place if everything was not profit driven. If an airline had one dollar left over after paying all operating costs and other crap it would still be a great thing because it's employing people. I think it was Karl Marx who said competition would be the demise of capitalism.
  18. I was flying my Jab on a hot day, only light winds, but found myself banked 45° and pointing 45° off the runway just as I started the flare. Landed heavily with the wing tip inches off the ground. Fought to keep from spearing off into the grass. Terrible experience, I suspect I was caught by a dust devil. I no longer fly in hot weather (> 30C°), too old to put up with that shite any more.
  19. An ambo driver once told me that he has come across car accident victims that have made no contact with the interior of the car during a crash but died because the impact has snapped their neck or their heart has been ripped from its mountings.
  20. considering how intact the cockpit is, I wonder how they didn't walk away....
  21. 6:30pm in July at Parafield is black as, so, it's more likely to be a bat or other creature rather than a drone.
  22. I reported to CASA a drone being flown about 2.6km from Parafield on a line extending east from runway 21R on the same day.
  23. Now, that's interesting because the person I knew found the structure around the top of the cockpit in the Foxbat was too close to his noggin. Each plane presented a different problem for one being very tall.
