  1. No, they have an equivalent ID, only valid when flying an a/c registered in that duristriction to any destination in the world. As an example I can fly a HKG registered a/c anywhere in the world, but I can't operate a VH registered a/c unless I have an Australian license, medical & ASIC.
  2. Like I've mentioned before, I can't believe that with 10,000 members we don't have more political powers like EAA in the US. We should be telling these elected officials what WE require not the other way around.
  3. So as I was born overseas I need my original citizenship certificate plus my passport, even though to get a passport I needed to show them the certificate 40 years ago, as well as to join the RAAF, mmmm all very "Yes Minister" more red tape.
  4. It's really a personal choice, as for me my day job is following a green line on autopilot so I opted for the basic steam driven dials.
  5. Best option when dealing with the AIP is to download it in GoodReader then do a word search for what you are researching.
  6. This was my first Oshkosh, I have to say that it exceeded all my expectations, extremely well managed & outstanding flying displays, everyone was just so friendly, I can honestly understand how folks come here every year. My personal favorites were the Blue Angels, the Apollo astronauts, the light sport a/c & the home builds.
  7. There's a long list, this mob is at the top of my no fly list.
  8. Just looked at our (RAAus) web site, we have 9,657 members, all hard working tax payers & voters, I can't belie we don't have more political clout, like the NRA or EAA in the US.
  9. Political correctness & red tape seems to sum up Australia these days.
  10. Been planning this trip for a few years now, can't believe it's finally happening, going to be a boys trip with 3 mates, we have booked 2 RV's & camping on site. Can't believe my luck, I'm a bit of a Blue Angels tragic, wanting to see them for years & I have every Apollo book written, so when I found out that the Blues are there as well as all the surviving Apollo astronauts I couldn't believe my luck.
  11. Folks one word of advice, the definition of pprune=toxic. Avoid that site like the plague. Just my humble opinion.
  12. What an inspirational story, love it, well done sir.
  13. Don't forget ON a flying carpet.
  14. Agree 100%, just waiting to hit that magic number.
  15. The C152 at Royal Newcastle Aero Club in 1980 & then the CT4 with the RAAF, only 3,077 days to go & counting till I retire & become a full time grey nomad flying my Foxbat with my wife around this great brown land.
  16. Costs are permitted provided that the cost are shared equally between pilot & pax, reference VFRG page 1.14, page 37 of CARs CAR2. (7)(d) i to viii & CAR 206:plane:
  17. How true, so how about politics, finance & world events etc that I don't have an intricate understanding or knowledge of, it's a race to the bottom, their research is done by google.
  18. Welcome back to the forum Dazza:cheers: sorry about the thread divergence.
  19. Picking up your own a/c, honestly it doesn't get any better than that, of all the hours in my log book, (16,000+) the most cherished & enjoyable were the 13 hours flying from Tyabb to Caboolture last September with my wife in our new baby, enjoy your new toy with many safe hours & smooooth landing.
  20. If you need or want to fly in CTA go with a RPL, if not & you want to fly for fun without the added cost of a class 2 medical defiantly RAAus.
  21. You should look at an airline flight deck, 1980's all the way apart from the B787 or A350/A380.
  22. That photo even made the local paper here in Hong Kong yesterday.
  23. I too went there years ago before I found out about RAAus, the reception I got was less than friendly & when the guy behind the desk found out I was an airline pilot, well you could of seen the ice form, less than impressed.
  24. CASA=Empire building, you just have to look at the medical & ASIC threads on this site, reminds of that classic tv series Yes Minister.
  25. Just a heads up, as the rules change & ASIC holders are required to have a face to face interview for a renewal WEF August security id have put in place various people at aero clubs, flying schools, airports etc that can verify or certify your ID, so the process can still be all done online with in 7-10 days.
