  1. Who pulls the nose up to totally unrealistic pitch attitudes, mmmmm Asiana B777 crash of a TOTALLY serviceable a/c in San Francisco & Turkish airlines B737 after a radio altimeter failure on approach i.e. a very minor fault if you apply basic airmanship, resulting in a hull losses & fatalities. To put it into RAA perspective it would be like flying an approach speed of 25 knots in the Foxbat rather than the normal 50-55knots.
  2. Guys I'm going to comment with my Instrument Rating Examiners hat on, "don't get yourself into a situation where you may go IMC even for a short time," even if you have all that sky view stuff fitted to your a/c you will kill yourself, it's only a matter of time, no one mentions icing conditions eg OAT on the ground or TAT in the air of 10 degrees or less, I know most RAA a/c have no pitot heating, once IMC what then, what's the MSA or GRID MORA that you are going to decent to to get VMC again? if you loss situational awareness what then, are you in a position that you can declare a MAYDAY in a radar environment & get radar vectors to cloud break etc, if in a non radar environment you're ####ed, it's only a matter of time before you smear yourself & pax into the ground, at least spend your money on a BRS rather than having all these displays & thinking your capable & qualified to us them.
  3. I agree dazza that's an outstanding setup dsam, I've got my heart set on a Foxbat next year, however there are no hangar slots anywhere in SE Qld & $100,000 to build a hangar kind of shoots down my dream before it started. The Eurfox with its folding wings & own trailer looks like an option. Wonder how many other pilots in our organization would & could afford to buy thier own a/c if only they could hangar them.
  4. Or you can roll on the downward part of the loop & pull into another loop & call it a horizontal eight, usually you have an aero's sequence as well as options if you need to rapidly change something in your routine, low level aero's definitely not for the faint hearted, P.S. No lag in the instruments on 4th generation fighter ie F-16 or Hornet etc.
  5. Even the experts can make mistakes, search YouTube Thunderbird ejection, they always set QFE before a display except this one time, so when he was at the top of the loop it was spot on if he was as a sea level airport, as they saying going "mistakes in aviation a very unforgiving"
  6. I know, just taking the p### out of QF, always good sport. It's funny because in most airlines everybody knows who the management pilots are.
  7. Just a question for our QF pilots on this site, why did QF let a US Navy captain fly the a/c, i.e. shoulder boards with the star?
  8. The viz is exceptional, just look at some youtube videos, the whole reason for the oval ccts is efficiency & its also much easier to get on the extended centerline in all wind conditions.
  9. Just saw this on another aviation web site.
  10. It's a fighter not an airliner, flap 23 degrees was commonly used during air combat maneavering & its limit speed was M0.90, hope that clarifies the flap issue.
  11. High rates of descent in a fast jet close to the ground it's the inertia that will bite you, lost a squadron mate in the early 90's the same way.
  12. A stab in the dark, an Eastwest F27?
  13. Following this thread with great interest, will be ordering my Foxbat next year, that's the easy part, hangar slots are the problem, so on a side note if anyone has a vacant spot from AUG16 at Caboolture please let me know, Yes I'm searching a year out.
  14. You're right it looked flapless to me too, having never flown a Boeing I'm not qualified to comment on that type, as for of Airbus the minimum landing flap is three as a normal flap setting or in windshear conditions, airliners are not like light a/c, it takes a lot of concrete to stop as speed increases, remember the old formula 1/2mv squared.
  15. Yes you can as long as the restricted areas are not active, the CTA Step is 4500ft, therefore at that level or below is legal & the Richmond TWR is closed, ie it's a CTAF.
  16. t . When operating on a LJR your usually in a tactical formation (in spread by 1.5nm) & flying at 480kts G/S or what ever you need to make the time on target, i.e. much faster if you've been bounced by the defenders. Don't worry fighters have very good radars & they are constantly searching ahead of then at a significant range from the ground up to 60,000ft, yes they will be able to paint you in your recreational a/c. Can't speak on behalf of the B111.
  17. Once you've downloaded the magazine from ISSUU save it to good reader, I have done this for the last 4 magazines.
  18. I'm in the same boat as you rhtrudder, I don't have a current medical or GA BFR so no CTA approval for me, which means that you can't fly the western vfr route past Cooly, (showing my age there) its in CTA, did Caboolture to Evans Head a few months back, remaining OCTA to the west puts you over very nasty terrain for about 10 mins, not sure I'd do that again, airmanship zero, but I remained legal, not having CTA approval forces us, RAA pilots to fly over tiger country, its just Gold Coast, Coffs & Willytown that are the problem areas, lets hope for a rule change in the near future as stated by our current committee. Fly safe.
  19. Thats great news, lessons learned, "don't download the latest apple updates for a few days to see what hidden problems have developed." Yes we have all become very dependent on all that technology for our day to day ops these days.
  20. All the specs are on the Foxbat web site, weights the same only real difference is 90ltrs of fuel, but then you do have a 25% speed increase for probably the same fuel burn, interesting to see the price, agree attractive looking a/c.
  21. Both the j160 & J170 are the same JAB2. Reference ICAO DOC 8643.
  22. The standard fit is the Y side stick, the yoke option is $AUD595 extra. I agree 100% once you've flown with a side stick you'll never want to go back to that vintage yoke system, love my Airbus & Foxbat flight deck/cockpit.
  23. Got to fly the brand new Foxbat from Caboolture recreational aviation yesterday, took my wife for a $100 hamburger, stunning Qld day, skirted around Oakeys airspace down over Dalby & into Millmerran, only 1.5km walk into town for lunch, then back to Caboolture. If anybody's looking for a place to stop & stretch the legs Millmerran is definitely worth it, a very tidy council aerodrome & friendly country people in town, burger was outstanding too.
  24. Actually rudder trim would be nice.
  25. I'm 6'4" & come in at 240lb in American speak, I suppose think running back in gridiron, I find the cockpit spacious & comfortable, my longest trip was just under 4 hrs, ideally 2 hr legs are perfect. The handling of the a/c is superb & I totally agree with the previous pilots comments, I've been researching the various recreational a/c on the market & in my humble opinion the Foxbat ticks every box for me, at this stage I hope to order in about a years time. Taking the wife for a navex tomorrow for that $100 hamburger if the weather gods stay kind. Only 10 more years till I become a grey pilot nomad, who's counting
