  1. The before start check list gets you to confirm all doors closed before pushback, some airlines arm the slides before starting the push others arm the slides during the push. You definitely get a warning, have attached a few pics of ecam plus oxy/door page on the A320.
  2. This is how ALL airlines treat abnormal smell in the flight deck or cabin, the ECAM/ECAS/QRH will take you the the smoke & fumes procedure, taking you through to all the systems to troubleshoot & identify the source, if you can’t identify it you continue to source unknown, END RESULT LAND ASAP/DIVERT.
  3. As a retired airline examiner (check captain) I fully support the crew’s decision to declare a MAYDAY in response to smoke & fumes, this event is one of the most complicated & frightening events an airline will face. From both a safety & procedural standpoint, it was the correct course of action. Situations involving potential fire or toxic fumes demand immediate & decisive action, the crew’s response ( including the cabin crew) reflects sound judgment & adherence to training.
  4. The pilot declared a MAYDAY X 3 over Orange, then as he returned to SYD at every frequency change you prefix your call sign with MAYDAY so that everyone is aware of your situation, the R/T you’re referring too was on first contact with tower as he becomes established on the ILS R/W 34L, as seen on the TV news, his R/T is correct.
  5. My wife & I flew into Ingelara about a 20 min drive from Carnarvon Gorge resort back in SEP17, stayed in resort & organized pickup & drop off from strip, the pilot touring guide gives you contact details of strip operator, from memory we paid a $50 donation to the RFDS as part of the landing fee, cattle maybe on strip so a condition/status report important. Definitely worth a visit.
  6. The CASA class 5 is a legal medical, I’d put in a formal complaint with CASA against that school, it’s discrimination & illegal.
  7. Great turnout today for the Clifton fly in breakfast, thanks to Trevor & the Clifton team.
  8. Looks very likely that the pilot not flying (PNF) retracts the flaps instead of raising the landing gear.
  9. I’m using my iPad Air with a magnet kneeboard & strap, been using it now for about a year, very happy with the setup. My ride is a Foxbat with a centre stick so there’s no obstruction.
  10. If the weather gods are kind I’ll definitely be there, photo Old Station 2022.
  11. The RAAUS ops manual hasn’t been updated yet to reflect that a CASA class 5 even exists hence you need to self certify a RAAUS medical declaration, that’s what I was told when I submitted my class 5.
  12. When I bought my Foxbat back in 2016 had the pleasure of dealing with both Peter & Ido, did my acceptance flight with Ido, he was an exceptional pilot & a real gentleman, RIP Ido.
  13. The wizz wheel (computer) for pilots is like trigonometry tables for high school & uni students, know that they exist & can be found in a museum, the world has moved on.
  14. I’ll be there if the weather gods are kind.
  15. Well I’ve been awarded my wings by the RAAF many years ago & since then have flown for a number of airlines, EVERY AIRLINE pilot in the world has a set of wings to be worn as part of your uniform, as far as aero club’s as mentioned by fachunter I like the idea.
  16. CX700Z was due to a bomb onboard, exploded over South Vietnam, insurance scam by an alleged Thai policeman who put his fiancee & daughter on the flight & took out a large policy just before the flight.
  17. If I remember my Performance A from many years ago, basically the second segment climb gradient of a 2 engine a/c is 2.4% & a 4 engine a/c it’s 3.0% which gives you better obstacle clearance following an engine failure at V1. Other reasons they chose 4 engines was greater redundancy plus better takeoff performance from short runways.
  18. Very true, the only a/c that had 5 APU’s 😂
  19. We had a 3 engine ferry procedure on the BAe146 when I flew it with National Jet Systems, actually used it once to get an a/c to the BNE maintenance facility.
  20. Let my class 1 expire as I didn’t require it anymore, did the class 5 which was seamless, emailed it the RAAUS for them to update my records, just received an email from them, RAAUS are unable to accept CASA class 5 medical certificates at this time as the Ops Manual has not been updated, work in progress.
  21. Irrelevant nav aid from the last century, Boeing & Airbus no longer have the ADF installed in their a/c, GPS/RNAV/RNP is the way everyone is going including GA for obvious reasons of cost, no flight testing of NAVAID required which causes traffic delays etc.
  22. A beautiful morning flight around Moreton Island with a mate, priceless.😊
  23. I will not be forced to Foreflight when the inevitable happens, think I’ll be like a lot of Ozrunways customers & take my business to AVPLAN.
  24. Hey Don, this would have to be one of the best statements I’ve ever read reference private/recreational flying, I agree with you 💯%.
  25. Also the Cirus is not certified for flight into know icing conditions.
