  1. ok that's good advice, though confused on the first bit - I would imagine he would expect me to use any and all resources at my disposal, one of those being bouncing it off of guys and gals that have done it before... not looking for a "cheat code" haha

What is funny is I typically do great at tests - its the time leading up to the test I am a basket case :)

Thanks Tubz, I have started such a list 026_cheers.gif.2a721e51b64009ae39ad1a09d8bf764e.gif

  2. Hi all - well, I have my flight test coming up. Any words of advice going into it?

Not anything about flying the plane, I can do that lol... but any helpful advice for mental preparation, organisation, typical tricks to watch for?

I'll be doing a trial session first, but would like to go into it mentally prepared as though it were the real thing.

    cheers!

  3. Oh, and I had mounted a camera on my first solo but when I got back home and looked at it, the video was so shaky it was unusable... it was like I left it on while rolling down a rocky hill in a barrel lol... bummer, I really have horrible luck with that sort of thing. Hope you get some pics next time, they make great PC desktop backgrounds!

  4. yeah to be honest, they showed that on the news last night without any sort of warning, not really something I wanted to see without knowing - esp while just learning... that is going to be burned into my mind for a long time. I will be very anxious to see the report on this one, it would be an interesting one for Air Crash Investigations to do a piece on.

  5. I think if the young drivers were paying by the hour, they would appreciate rapid progress as well :-) That said, speaking for myself as a "mature" student - I think the key is more "progress". I try not to worry if it is "rapid", but if I get put off for a couple months because the instructor has other commitments, or the weather, or whatever, and I then have to pay for 2-3 more lessons to catch up, that is not progress. Yes each hardship or obstacle has its own lesson, but that works both ways - of course it shouldn't be rushed or pushed, but there should always be an eye towards moving the ball down the field. The school should conduct the business for which I have contracted them without having to climb their legs every other week, and if that is necessary, it shouldn't be construed as being impatient or wanting "rapid progress" - just prudent time and money management.

But I will reiterate what I said in my original post - yes it can add time to the process, but the experience gained from each one will provide a solid foundation AS LONG AS the ball moves down the field. Its your money.

  6. I would agree, however I have been with 4 different instructors now and I do feel that I have gotten something beneficial out of each one of them. The down side is it does set you back a bit as it takes time to learn what they are looking for. I think I would be done by now if I hadn't kept getting bounced around.

  7. I'll say that's good - took me 25 hours to get to that point! Of course I went for a long spell of switching instructors and only being able to fly once a month or less due to weather, wish I had known about them down at YWOL starting off :) Great stuff Ivan, don't forget to post all about that magic moment when it happens!

  8. Another weekend, another landmark - got my 5 hours PIC under my belt! I think that just about finishes up the syllabus, just have to get with my instructor and see what is next in the way of lessons, consolidation, etc, and hopefully be ready for my flight test soon!

    Woooo hooooo!! :)
