  1. I have made easy to read checklists of common procedures or relevant frequencies and laminated them. I have a grease pencil (available on clear prop!) and tick things off as I go. It can be wiped with a tissue for the next time. Dry erase markers are no good because you can accidnetly wipe them off with your sleeve or if the list falls off your lap.

As far as kneeboards go, i use that bifold one, but I am finding it a bit busy and mostly filled wtih stuff I don't need (phonetic alphabet? come on....) so I am on the lookout for something with easy to find info and that will accomodate my checklists. Good thread!

  2. I can not catch a break... got there an hour early, even went to the shop to replace all my expired nav stuff, went out and did a thorough preflight, perfect radio calls and taxi, damn respectable short field takeoff - and........

..... IN THE MIDDLE OF THE VERY FIRST CIRCUIT....

    ..... it starts raining.

So decided to call in for a full stop and live to fight another day. It was pretty light, and we were hoping it might pass by, but in the end its better to be on the ground and all that. Precious bl**dy wooden prop...

I think it will be a good thing, as I have a bit of a preview as to what the test is like (including the practice one a couple of weeks ago) so nerves should not be a factor when the stars and planets finally line up.

Was hoping for a better write up today, whats everyone else in the Sydney area doing on this rainy weekend? If I'd finished yesterday, today would have been my first Nav....

  3. What about owning more than 1 share, does that get you anything? Thinking of these ads I see a share of a Jab or Gazelle or whatever... what if as people leave the syndicate, you buy the shares - is that a good way to work your way into eventual full ownership? Or would it end up costing more that way in the end (haven't done the numbers)? Would having multiple shares give you more preference on flying time, or just more burden?

  4. I generally just do what " floats my boat" and then work my ass off to pay for it, maybe not the best way but I've had some fun with toys,Cheers Met

Won't get an argument out of me on that Met, I think that is the best way! Whenever I am spinning my wheels at my job or discontent or wondering what its all about and why am I even working here, i just remember "it pays for some pretty cool sh#t"!

  5. so... there is a break even point, that's good to know. makes sense rdarby that you will also tend to fly more if you feel the sense of ownership, that might also hasten the break even point, as you might fly more in a month than you would if you were hiring.

Lots of food for thought here, I imagine since I am just starting out in aviation relatively late I will probably try all combinations of things before i settle on what works for me.

  6. Ahhh... makes sense.. does sound like fun,, but OUCH!!

I have gone through (and blogged) alot of what you have been going through regarding all the re-learning and doubts and fears... read on, and hopefully some of it will be helpful. Then again, its a lot to read and if you are in uni you might not have time LOL... but i've tried to keep it pretty generic so almost anyone can get through it without a bunch of jargon etc.

I hope you get in the air soon!
