  1. Of course mate pass the buck ,but your comments are the ones i,m refering to ... CASA needs to pull their heads out of the sand and evaluate the amount of CFIT accidents and were they navigating with GPS or dead reckoning ,which as the words says RECKONING as in I reckon i,m gunna win lotto tommorrow but thats just a thought of mine with no real accuracy............................And cause you did not answer my question i,ll assume you dont know so here it is,,,,,,,T true course V variation M magnetic course D deviation C course to steer And they should also evaluate the amount of lost flyers and fuel related accidents and were they navigating with gps or dead reckoning as they will probably find a lot of these incidents could have been avoided by the use of gps

  2. Now you're taking a shot at both paper and electronic in the same post!Paper charts have been used in cockpits since the beginning of aviation. There are techniques you can use to handle them, which are usually taught during navigation training, starting with clear overlay which allows multiple routes to be marked in chinagraph, and stops most of the flapping........talk to an old hand.

I'm not sure what I need to take note of about gps/tablets, but here's a link to a fairly well specified GA aircraft which crashed due to gps error: https://www.atsb.gov.au/media/24535/AO200402797.pdf

Turbo if you had read my post correctly i was talking about the known accurracy and reliability of gps,,,Now a little history for you,,I have been and still am involved in the maritime industry fishing/trawling/tourist boats from 39ft long to 300 ft long in areas ranging from WA to NZ to PNG to Darwin and Timor ,,now i was one of the early skippers who had seen the first gps unit to come into the industry back in the 80,s now in all time since then i have enjoyed the reliability and accurracy of gps to navigate in all areas,{and yes there have been cases of accidents caused by gps ,but most of those were software problems in the early days ,my challenge to you is find me a vessel involved in any industry today that has a supply of the latest and greatest charts[paper versions] AND USES THEM to navigate now. Yes large ships still do because they have the staff available and have on board training programes, but the majority of small vessels ALWAYS USE GPS to navigate this I know as fact also the maritime REGULATORY body when they board your vessel for checks{RAMP CHECK OF THE SEA }NOT once have i had them check my charts or even ask for them because they use GPS themselves and this is over a career of 35 years so i have a bit of time in this subject and just a thought Turbo do you know what TVMDC means???

  3. And just an aside ,,has anyone tried to open and use a paper chart in an open cockpit machine or seen the lack of space to store paper ersa,s etc that we are REQUIRED to carry and use if we would like to attend flyins etc .This not only impractical ,but also dangerous especially in a pusher aircraft ,, and the reliability of modern gps/tablets need to be addressed {turbo take note} and maybe to allow more 95.10 machines to attend an exemption to carry and use paper should be investigated,,,the 95.10 machines are not dissapearing they are still out there, just to much impractical rules to0 attend ,so most just say bugger it let the plastics/spam cans do their thing ,i,ll just fly around the paddock...........Also being made to feel like lepers the rag and tube mob have a bit of pride and that hurts too.

  4. Thanks all,i,ll leave this thread now as i spiral down in flames alone outnumbered in a firefight i have been deleted by the 21st century {turbo why should someone who does not fly to flyins or long distances have to fund extras they dont use via fee increases and the loss of a paper mag, that is a serious pleasure for MOST members ,and for some the only reason they keep up their membership}And as i said before no offence meant to anyone i just thought this was important,,,,I was wrong........................

  5. Thanks Sue and you are so right and it hurts to see, maybe you should donate those 95 machines to the holbrook museam so that they can be displayed so people can see the foundations of RAA ,just an idea cheers

  6. And no offence meant to anybody ,but maybe some of the board who have only flown around in spam cans or plastic fantastics should jump in a 95.10 machine and just feel the feeling of really flying with the wind in your face { awesome }and the machine responding through the seat of your pants ,just an idea so that we dont get forgotten.

  7. Thank you Sue and Major for the info ,and i ,m sorry for my comments ,but i feel that the 95,10 ers are being forgotten and its all about fast/better bigger planes now and because of the costs involved in this direction someone who wants to just fly for the pleasure of flying {and not really go anywhere] is dragged into this fee increases etc and the whole reason for the formation of the AUF in the first place is being forgotten as the GA brigade have taken over the running of RAA and are trying to force us out of a movement that was started by the 95.10 ers in the first place thats all.

  8. Go to the Members only area of RAA website - Financials - every month's expenditure is there. You can see the breakdown as follows: Thank you flyingvista that was informative ,still a lot of wasted money there if you really look .....

  9. Would be best not criticising board members and costs they incur, they donate plenty of time and the one who comes here to talk doesnt deserve it. Why not letjr,,what are they scared of about open financial disclosure to members ie costs of travel/motels hire cars etc all this should be open and accountable

  10. Too much bull for me....

And ME RAA has become way to much BULL for me too,as i,m not a quasy GA pilot who cant pass a medical who is destroying a freedom for affordable aviation, just look at your plane ,,,,,thats NOT an ULTRALIGHT it is a sports aircraft and should be treated as such............

  11. When have I ever promoted doing illegal things? That is hugely defamatory and I certainly don't appreciate that!

As for who's paying for who IMHO dividing the membership over that is stupid we are all rec flyers and if we get divided it will be much easier for the CASA to take us all over then no one wins. Like I said before if there are enough that feel that way run for board positions and steer us that way.

in your magazine ,just have a look yourself

  12. Yes but if we where not trying to turn RAA into GA we would not have this problem,ie more weight ,more controlled airspace access more speed ,,just take one look at the adds in the magazine all planes you see are mostly fast big GA planes NOT ULTRALIGHTS so a group that was formed to cater for ULTRALIGHTS with a Maximum TOW of 600 kgs and anything over that has to go to the RAA or SAAA as we were originally formed for something has to happen as members are fed up paying for quasy GA ,,we just fly for fun not flying for business, and getting to that point some members are using their aircraft as a business tool to fly to customers ,,NOW is that not using your plane for financial return WHICH under our RAA rules is illegal is it not ,,,why are you promoting something which is illegal under our contitution ????????

  13. BTW when we send you a digital copy of the magazine its then up to you what you do with it.....It can, as some of you have suggested, end up in the bit bucket (trash) or you might well choose to send it to all your mates, some of who might not be members of RAAus, and they in turn will send it who knows where......Your paper copy however can only be in one place at a time...... So it's not all negatives, there are positives that need to be considered as well in my opinion.

Andy the digital mag is NOT free as you guys are saying , People like my self that only have prepaid internet access it costs over 20 dollars to download . IT SUCKS and how about reducing the board members and travel costs and the best motels and first class flights etc that YOU guys are doing ..The way you are going ,a breakaway group is already in the making and you will lose so many members that RAA will die the ga way you are taking OUR CLUB for cheap affordable flying for the average person on a tight budget will sell thier plane and not renew membership OR will join a breakaway group for ULTRALIGHTS not quasy GA planes so i,ll say it BRING ON THE AUF

  14. Is that the one on the Lohle ?.......more than likely has a small jet blocked caused by old fuel sitting in it and general lack of use.....but if not ..yes I'll come down and stay overnight at Doug or Warrens place if I can...stay in touch.

Yes it is mate i have to go to sea for two weeks and i,ll arrange for you to stay at warrens when i get back from work, no problem as i live in the container at warrens ,and yes i,m pretty sure its fuel contamination as she has been sitting for 3 years and i replaced the fuel lines from the main tank but not the aux tank ontop so i think thats the problem ,but i,ll feel a bit better if you could have a look thanks.
