  1. This morning I removed my lightwing from the hanger and descovered appox 1/2 the the right wing upper outer surface including the ailron skin was very loose? was crumpled and looked like 1/2 the wing had been in an accident? I emediatly inspected and found nothing? I then rang a Lvl 2 and whilst on the phone and less than 5 mins later ,my wife informed me the skin was back super tight?

The lvl 2 could not explain it . once it was in the sun it tightened almost emediatly. the wing is alloy.with coveing, looks like poly fibre

never seen this before? any ideas?

  4. been thinking about this sort of thing of late.A USA airshow is ussually pretty spectacular now days ,but here? well it gets kinda boring! last few airshows we've been to were pretty rank, most exciting thing was the hotdog stand, unfortunatly its because of the lack of entertainment that the shows here are not drawing the big crowds,.I understand the liability issues but other than the ussual Chris Sparou doing some aero,s not much happens .I rarely bother going to them anymore,,seen 1 you seen them all... bring back SNOOPY im happy to sign a liabilty waiver (I have to to be operated on which I class as a higher risk and not as fun.!

  5. Of course you had to ground the plane but were there no facilities to weld it there? One gliding club I was with had continual problems with cracked muffler on a Pawnee. Many mornings they had it pulled off and someone was welding it up. Talking about welding, I am restoring a boat trailer and have to do vertical welds and welding underneath which is the worst when "lava" dribbles down on you. Is gasless mig welding easier than the stick welding I am doing?

bUY SOME STAINLESS STEEL ARC WELDING RODS. gasless mig is not the best. The stainless steel electeodes are amazing .yes even upside down.NO more cocky s$%# welding with them bad boys, they weld pretty much any metals , different metals together, and penatrate well in contamination conditions.... you can buy them seperatly from any good welding supplier.

  6. As I've mentioned before ,If your NOT nervous then more likely your over confident ..over confidence leads to poor judgement in my experience, fear will keep you on your toes and out of trouble.I ALWAYS do 3 pre-flights that take around 15-20 mins,in doing this Ive found things that have been missed by other pilots, even found a crack in a wing box attatchment on a training plane and felt a little nervous telling the CFI,He was very appreciative and gave me a pat on the back, he cancelled the flight and... removed and replaced it .Since then I have ALWAYS spent extra time in pre-flight., have noticed a LOT of pilots, CFI included don,t even look for cracks and alike..

  7. I didnt say stay away from ebay...Mark11 did.....ebay is fine...I bought a enclosed single seat thruster off ebay a little while ago..Sold it to a young guy from vic..He didnt have a licence at the time but did all his training in a t300 so he could fly it....(its on utube)..And he just recently sold it on ebay..He loved it but wanted to upgrade to a 2 seater.

yep I sure did love it,Although I'm in S.A. and had been in training prior, I finished my training in the T500 in Vic.I sold it to another young pilot whome also is training in the T500 but will take a while as he has No previouse training logged...and yes I did upgrade but very much miss my lil broomstick(thruster T83)

  12. While eating my breaky 15 mins ago I heard what I thought was next doors loader back out extending my runway. awesome, quickly finished, then hobbled out to witness what I think? was a Kitfox?didn't get any numbers as I was surprised to see it climbing from my strip? It was all yellow with a red round cowling like a radial on the front.I waved and flapped but he/she/they didn't seem to see me... anyone know who it was? I was really disappointed they didn,t stop.pot was hot, could have had a cuppa and chat..I have a very good idea it was on the ground so not sure why they didn,t wait a little although the weather is deteriorating..really spewin it didn't stop, any one know whome it could have been? anyone on here? My wife in formed me that when Thirsty and I were fying home the local store counted 4 planes circle the strip in a 3 hr span..

Also get a lot of G.A traffic from the nrth/wst,they come over to a 180 around the property then head off.. I want to let every one Know the frequency here used is 126.7 If you fly out here I ask if you can use this frequency in the area, just for good "airmanship" practice.keep it under 10.000ft as the frequency is 125.?...Thank you and hope to see you here for a yak,,any ifo on the yellow plane much appreciated,,,

  13. Good attitude Tim,Stay alive buddy, we are always learning, stick around to teach that 5 year old.

I'll have to drop in if ever I get that old Auster of mine flying, your 360 metre strip no problem for the old J1B.

I have a son on the Eyre at Tumby Bay, so it is only a matter of time and I will be down there.

look forward to it ,I almost went for an Auster but it sold...

  15. I was taught to always remove the cowl and do a thorough under cowl engine inspection as part of a daily. And I know others that learnt to fly at other schools have been taught the same. Personally, I think it's a good idea and plan to keep doing so.

Im suprised! I thought every one removed there cowling hood before each flight, check plug leads, bolts wiring ,coolant,hoses,etc... I was tought this way and pressumed every one else did the same.

is it different with a 4 stroke?
