  1. Hey you sheet metal workers! Take a look at this. It's kosher.

Shaviv deburring tool. Consists of a handle and five - count them - five deburring bits. But wait, there's more. You can get other bits so you can chamfer, countersink or scrape.

This is an essential tool for anyone who makes neat holes in steel, aluminium, plastic, rival gang members.

Got any specials on AN bolts and nuts?

  2. In the Melbourne area on current hire rates it will only cost me $36.00 per hour to fly a Warrior or C172 vs a Jabiru J170 and for that I get four seats, long range ability for someone to use a camera in the olpen (C172), less chance of a forced landing, and brakes!

Another advantage tp, of going GA is you won't have to worry about keeping a board honest.004_oh_yeah.gif.82b3078adb230b2d9519fd79c5873d7f.gif

  3. Check out the AN on them for details.Pud

In actual fact it is not an AN but a UK mandatory permit directive. Go http://www.recreationalflying.com/showthread.php/104294-Thruster-wing-strut-attachments-UK-mandatory-permit-directive to check it out.

Here is a better photo of the u brackets required. Wade is going to come back to me with a price. I am still interested if anyone has some lying around that they wouldn't mind getting rid of.

  4. I'll give Wade a call, thanks guys. I don't know of any struts around the place Brownie, but if you do manage to get second hand ones just be careful that the cast alum connection fittings are sound. Check out the AN on them for details.

  5. I'm trying to obtain some wing spar U brackets for a mates Gemini. These are the U brackets used to attach the spacer tubes between the trailing and leading edge spars. The photo attached here shows what is currently on the aircraft. These U brackets are not the approved type, having a straight, flat bearing edge to the spar, rather than a concaved surface to mate positively with the spar. The leading edge spar and trailing edge spar are of different diameter tube so the U brackets are different for both spars. I'd be very interested in talking to anyone who has some of these U brackets surplus to requirements that we can acquire.

Thanks in advance for your help.

  6. Thruster instructors and training aircraft are certainly hard to come by now. I was talking with some guys who called in to the hangar at Northam last Saturday. They were asking questions about training on the Thruster and I couldn't think of a training Thruster in operation right now - pity really, but a sign of the times.

  7. Well my T500 is getting very close to it's 1st flight. Poll reports that our airfield on his property is not in good nick though, what with all the wind we have had lately, the sand is blowing and causing corrugations and small raised areas around the afghan thistle plants - only bloody stuff that will grow in a drought I reckon. Yes there are still areas in WA that require rain right now so that water does not need carting to stock.

I'm sure looking forward to the day I can ring him and say "Drag those truck tyres over the strip will you, so I can attempt a greaser of a 1st landing"

  8. I had cause to inspect the inside of my tank with a boroscope?? - camera on a flexible lead - but couldn't get to the bottom of the tank from the inlet because the holes in the baffles don't line up. There goes my idea of dipping the tank to double check enough fuel. I think, when the time comes, I'll fill in 5 litre lots so I can mark the transparent sight hose in increments. My point? Make sure your baffle holes line up if you want to dip your tank.

PS. I realise this is an old thread, but someone might find this info useful.

  9. Well that's about 245 hits with about 10 very definite "DO NOT CONTINUE TO USE" replies, and not one view advocating to continue use.

I'm happy to report that both trailing edge spars on the Gemini and the leading edge spar on the T500 were replaced before I posted this thread. It was however, worth getting the 'learned forum members' collective view on this, as (as I have said before) someone obviously thought the repairs were structurally sound.

    Thanks everybody for your thoughts.

Oh, by the way; my restored T500 is about a month away from test flying - yeah!!!

  10. Pud (didinja no? - old Geraldton folk lore: tall tomatoes plants make for more space between the rows for hashish crops!)

Reminds me of many years ago when I pulled into a farm homestead to find the local copper inspecting the farmers vegie patch. Right behind me the farmer pulled in and the cop commented on a fine crop of tomatos in the vegie patch. The farmer and the cop did their business (not serious) whilst I waited outside, then when the cop drove down the drive the farmer invited me to inspect the tomato plants.... And the fine crop of marryduanna amongst the tomatos:big_grin::big_grin: To this day, I'm not sure if the cop saw the hooch and let it go, or if he just missed it.

  11. Scrap it !!! Frank.

    Already done Farri!!

It's interesting though, that the spar with the patch "repair" has been on the Gemini for a long time. Not sure what it is hiding yet.... I suspect damage similar to what you see in the other photos.

Riley, you must grow big tomatoes. The join in the main spar is definitely in a high stress area, being at the strut connection point, as shown in the 4th photo.

FT, a new main spar cost me $290 plus $150 freight to get it to WA. I'm happy to pay that for peace of mind, and to have a wing that is structurally sound.

Is there anyone out there who would use these spars, and would care to give me their reasons why? It is obvious someone thought that both these repairs would suffice.

  12. G'day All,

This thread is about Thruster wing spars so may not be relevent to some people. Nonetheless, I thought I'd post here as more people will get to read it than if I posted in the Thruster section. I'm interested in getting your views on some wing spar damage I have seen recently. Please check out the photos and give me your thoughts.

In particular I'm interested in your views of the spar damage, and whether it is ok (in your view) to continue using these spars on the aircraft, and what you think about the repairs that have been done on both spars.

    Cheers,

  14. Pud;I resemble your remarks!

I haven't had a bad cramp in flight yet. When I do, I won't enjoy the flight and will be making a bee-line for the closest ALA to stretch it out. Being weight-shift, I only need legs on the ground for steering and brakes, so not quite as much of an issue as for 3-axis. I use Natures Way Magnesium tablets, which also contain some B6, which assists absorbtion. Although I haven't used Staminade for years, that sounds like a good solution, as it is an electolyte replacement drink and contains Sodium and Potassium as well as Magnesium.

I suspect all will agree... prevention is better than cure :-)

As far as prevention goes.... These days when I feel like some physical activity and exercise, I go and have a lay down until the feeling passes!!
