  1. Hi Planey, There is actually a book produced by Brian Goulding and Dick Taylor (Revised Edition 2010) called "Story of a Lanc" NX611 - "Just Jane" which details the entire history of this plane, and I bought it at the Museum when over there. It doesn't seem to have an ISBN that I can see but gives details as :- Printers :- Melton Printers of Lincoln, Industrial Unit 3, Sleaford Road, Bracebridge Heath, Lincoln LN4 2ND, UK Website :- www.meltonprinters.co.uk Publishers : Brian Goulding and Dick Taylor on behalf of Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre, East Kirkby, Near Spilsby, Lincolnshire PE23 4DE, UK Website :- www.lincsaviation.co.uk Perhaps if you contact one of the above you may be able to get a copy sent to you. It is good read, and lots of great pix! It cost 10 pounds from the museum. Cheers Neil
  2. Hi Patrick, I certainly intend going. Not sure which day yet - I usually wait to see the forecast and then pick the best one. As I live very close I actually get the train in (and am home in about 30 mins, which is far less time than it would take to even get out of the car park if I drove, which I did once...) Will give you a call nearer the day - it would certainly be good to catch up for a chinwag....No Drifter or Fisher for me - but the Gazelle is rag and tube..... Cheers Neil
  3. Welcome, mothra! Hope the shoulder gets better soon.... Cheers, Neil
  4. ....and the guy only has one eye!! Brilliant!
  5. Hi Phil, Thanks for the info - very interesting. Apparently they use the one at Popham for parachuting......no furry carpets there! Cheers Neil
  6. Hi Phil, Is that plane in your avatar the Antonov AN-2 based at Popham? If so I had a look at that one last year when I was down that way... Cheers Neil
  7. Hi Met, Count Matt & me in (we co-own, so that'll be one Gazelle)...might even give it a wash if there's to be competition! Cheers Neil
  8. Hi WWL, Best of luck with your training. Don't be afraid to seek the advice of the many people on this site - there are loads of people here with stacks of experience. Happy Landings Neil
  9. Hi OME, Yes - they certainly are going to try and get it flying again. I have a mate who lives nearby and he took me there a couple of years ago when I visited him. We saw it taxiing (although it was rather miserable weather), and as Bryon said , the sound of 4 Merlins is absolutely amazing! Make sure you look round the rest of the site too, as they have lots of other goodies on display. Enjoy! Cheers Neil
  10. Hi Joey, Welcome back. I have been to Tyabb a few times and it seems like a good place to fly from. Enjoy your flying! Cheers Neil
  11. Hi Skyhawk, and , Sounds like you have a lot of experience. Care to tell us a bit more about your background? Cheers Neil
  12. Thanks, John - that was very enjoyable. Cheers Neil
  13. Hi Patrick, I have a friend who has an a/c down there and contacts - PM (private conversation) your details (email etc) and I will endeavour to pass on. Rgds Neil
  14. Hi Jim. I know a couple of guys who have fitted Rotax 912 (both 80 hp & 100 hp) to Skyrangers. If you PM me with your email address I can forward to them - they are good guys and I am sure will help out - as I am sure would Greg Robertson on this site as he is the Skyranger agent, (I believe). Suggest you drop him a line too. Cheers Neil
  15. Very cool video! Thanks for posting! Neil
  16. ...and here is a video of Arthur Butler & Comper Swift :- Spiffing stuff! I was lucky enough to see a Comper Swift fly at Old Warden (Shuttleworth Collection) in September at an Air Pageant there.....very cool. Cheers Neil
  17. I totally agree. It was made clear at the beginning of the thread that this was an academic question. By reading the thread I also now have a better knowledge of how these lights work, and how to activate them IF I ever needed to. It has therefore increased my aviation knowledge, which has to be a good thing, but it does not mean I am now going to rush out and abuse this knowledge by playing with any local PAL lights just for the sake of it. IMO one purpose of this site is to be able to ask questions purely out of curiosity and without fear of any negativity. I have appreciated the personal opinions of the many people replying, and have taken all of them on board. It remains up to my common sense (or lack thereof) as to how I then use that knowledge. Keep up the questions, guys!! Cheers Neil
  18. Nice one, mate! Lot of tiger country there.... Cheers Neil
  19. Hi David, Congratulations from another Penfield flyer on getting your certificate ! Hope we can meet up some time. Cheers Neil
  20. Hi Westy, back! It's certainly annoying how work gets in the way of flying, isn't it.... Cheers Neil
  21. Nice pics! Good one.... Neil
  22. Hi John, I certainly did train with Terry! He is such a good instructor. I hope you get to do your training at Tyabb, I am not familiar with any of the instructors there, but it looks like a good place to fly from (and puts on a great Airshow). You don't need an ASIC card. Best of luck! Keep us informed about how you get on. BTW the Human Factors course is not that difficult - mostly common sense. Some parts even quite interesting Cheers Neil
  23. G'day Macca! Gotta love those Avid Flyers ... Cheers Neil
  24. Hi John, I know they have 3 or 4 Gazelles for training at Tyabb. Having also learnt to fly in a Texan (also at Sunbury) and now flying a Gazelle I can vouch for it being pretty easy to move from one to the other. Anyway - good luck with whatever you decide to do - glad to see you getting back into flying Cheers Neil
  25. Yeh - I watched it and thought exactly the same! Lot of Tiger Country.....but brilliant nonetheless!
