  1. Excellent video & music! Thanks for posting! Cheers Neil
  2. LOL - I love your logic! Cheers Neil
  3. Hi Nev, There is a Flying Flea hangared at Penfield if you want to see one built fairly recently..... Cheers Neil
  4. ...so if your POH has the phrase "Normal Cruise Speed" with a figure quoted then you're OK. But if it doesn't then what do you use? Do you interpret the top of the AI green arc as the cruise speed? Do you use TAS, or IAS? Or something else? Cheers Neil
  5. ....and that's just the point, Terry. Where does it say what your aircraft is? I have a Gazelle and fortunately both an HP and LP endo, but I know people flying Gazelles with only an HP endo because nobody knows for sure whether it is LP or HP. So one day those nice people at CASA come along and ramp check you. They say you need an LP endo to fly your plane and you don't have one. Oooops! Busted! Until we have a reference document with each plane listed we won't know. Cheers Neil
  6. Hi folks, This video is absolutely brilliant. No matter how much we love flying, sometimes even the most passionate among us can briefly lose sight of the magic that drew us to fly in the first place. A wonderful video of 6-year-old Lainey Woodson taking her first airplane ride with her father, Bobby, in the family's 1946 Aeronca Champ. Enjoy! Cheers Neil
  7. Hi Guy, and welcome! I really hope to come over to Kiwiland and see Warbirds over Wanaka, and the WW1 planes at Omaka. Definitely on the bucket list. Cheers Neil
  8. Hi Doug, Absolutely brilliant! Vintage Aviation enthusiast heaven! I was lucky enough to go to an Air Pageant at the Shuttleworth Collection last year when the weather was kind and we saw the really old (Edwardian) planes flying. I captured some video on my old stills camera, but obviously it was nowhere as good as this! Thanks for posting - sheer delight! Cheers Neil
  9. Hi Greg, Brilliant! Let's have some more! Cheers Neil
  10. LOL - and there are people who fly Gazelles (which cruise at 70-75 kts) on a HP endo as the AI green arc goes up to 86kts (maximum structural cruising speed). If the Sav cruises at 85-90 knots how does it classify as LP? This just exposes the whole 80 knots LP/HP thing as a farce. Neil
  11. ...now how did I guess you were also from Melbourne.......
  12. Hi Tomo, Nice Pix! It was good to meet up with you and chat for a while too. Cheers Neil
  13. Hi John, I have a cheap and cheerful Garmin 196 - can be used in both plane and car (although I have not used it in the car). Has no colours or fancy stuff, but you get what you pay for. I am sure there are others too. Cheers Neil
  14. Hi Dan and , Where are you learning & what are you flying? Cheers Neil
  15. Hi Octave, Looks like your dad really enjoyed it! It always saddens me that I got my pilot certificate after my dad had passed away - he would have been the first to come up for a flight. My mum always said she wanted to come up for a flight too, but she was in her 80s and living in the UK, so that never happened either..... Make the most of it. Cheers Neil
  16. Hi guys, Comment added on the first site. No swearing, just asking for people to appreciate the positives that small airfields bring to a community (and the fact it's been there for 45 years already!) GOOD LUCK! Cheers Neil
  17. Hi Harold, Welcome aboard. So where are you learning? What are you flying? Don't be shy! Cheers Neil
  18. Well done, Steve! Now it starts! Cheers Neil
  19. Yeah! Go the Gazelle!
  20. I am registered too! Cheers Neil
  21. Hi Mark, Having been to the last couple I would say if you are considering taking up flying then the best value would probably be just talking to the pilots there. Most are very friendly and helpful, and should fill you in on the practical side of flying, owning or building etc, depending on what aspects interest you. Cheers Neil
  22. Incredible! Great video. .......Still don't understand how they did it without hi-viz jackets though.... Cheers Neil
  23. Hi Mark, Absolutely brilliant! Brought back memories of building model planes out of balsa wood, tissue paper and dope when I was a young lad in the UK. The worst incident was when one of them landed in Leigh Creek one Christmas Eve, and I had to wade in to retrieve it. The water was bloody cold, being UK Christmas Eve, and my mum was NOT impressed! But at least my plane was able to fly another day (albeit with surfaces a bit warped...) Cheers Neil
  24. Thanks for posting the video, Mark. The guy is very brave to do a film so others can learn, and really think about whether they should fly. All the lectures in the world do not bring home the point as forcefully as a real incident like this. I hope he can feel less guilty in the future. I shall certainly be questioning myself before I fly rather more than I have done in the past. Neil
  25. Flown a 747...............................................OK, it was a simulator, but landing at SFO was brilliant!
