  1. Gday, with the long weekend coming up, i am thinking of exploring the snowy mountains by air., after searching google maps, the ERSA and country airstrip guide, i have noticed there are quite a few airstrips in the area, firstly, Adaminaby, is there good nice accommodation nearby anyone can recommend? also Jindabyne, but i also found a strip at Cabramurra! and also at Khancoban. Khancoban is listed in the country airstrip guide as Emergency use only, but there is no mention of Cabramurra airstrip anywhere, only it looks ok on Google maps..

I am also aware of the strip at Mitta Mitta and of course, Hotham and cooma polo flat.

Does anyone have any experience operating from these strips, know of their conditions, who to contact and know of good quality accommodation nearby any of them?

oh and i am using a Savannah VG for the trip, so any strip longer than 100 mtrs is ok.

  2. I know the Monto fly-in is on this June long weekend, but its a little too far for us in just a few days, so does anyone know of a location for a good weekend away, with accommodation at the field, things to do nearby etc in Victoria? somewhere similar to Camden haven with cabins on the airfield.

we will be departing Wollongong, just south of Syd.

  3. Excellent team!! 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif doing a great job Flightygirl.I really like the fixed camera Ultra. Maybe next time you could back up the shot a bit so we can see the pilots at work ?

How have you mounted the camera?

The camera is a Go-Pro HD Hero camera, suction cup mounted to the top of the windscreen.

  4. 2 hrs of circuits in one short video, in our Savannah.

Flightygirl is flying, well, except i took over at 1 point, guess where....

    filmed at Wollongong.

feel free to comment or criticise, im sure she can take it!

  6. If you read the 912 owners manual, it states throttle at idle after cooling off period if needed then both ignition switches off. The "clunking" is normal and will not harm the engine as the clunking originates in the gearbox/ clutch assyembly, not the engine, and is a result of momentum of the prop/hub assembly.

  7. after a quick bit of line drawing, and calulations, i could make it to Nz in the Savannah. as it is, at 85 Kts... 3 hrs to Lord howe, then 5.5 to Norfolk then 5.5 again to Nz... i have a 6 hr endurance.... hmmmm now im thinking..

would love to hear about the planning and the flying of your trip though!

  8. there is a difference with " Long downwind" and "joining downwind" if your downwind and still 2 miles from the airfield, then you are Joining downwind! downwind should start when your within the usual circuit pattern, its not uncommon to join crosswind above the Upwind runway threshold and then be told by another aircraft they are on long downwind and expect you to join behind them, even when they are 2 miles or more away from the upwind runway threshold. its just one of my little pet peives when flying from hoxton long ago.

  9. could be Mixture related, or carby ice, jabirus Love carby ice. but if bringing the throttle position back till RPM just begins to drop, it sounds more a Mixture issue. closing the throttle valve is reducing the air in the air/fuel mix, and bringing it back to a more normal/correct mixture.

  10. Gday, does anyone know anything about the grass strips at Badgerys creek in the sydney basin, no, not the proposed international one, but the strips located just north of the Bringelly inbound point to Camden. i have seen grassroots type ultralights flying from there some weekends, it would be nice to drop in and say Hi sometime.. or at least get permission to land there or here

  11. PS. Is the booking system broken and has the web site collapsed ?

Nahh, the booking system is still running, but the site is being moved to another server/host or whatever as the old one was constantly being hacked, no idea why or by who.... but just ring one of the instructors and book.

as for 940. it has had problems recently but considering the hours its flown, its still quite reliable for a Jab. it will fantastic fun once it gets its new heart! might even outclimb the tecnam when its parts arrive from italy.

  12. emissions free........ just dont look at the exhaust stack of that power station over there.. though i would love to convert my Vampire to electric power, only haveing a 503 with 30 ltrs fuel capacity only gives my 2 hrs anyway, and if the battery can weigh the same as 30 ltrs of fuel, then no issue there.
