  1. Thanks Guys, That's pretty much what I am going trial on my next flight. Get to the cruise, and then adjust the prop and throttle to get the RPM sitting at around the 5000rpm mark, and get the MP to around the 26 mark. Then do some experimenting to find the best result. Cheers John
  2. I think we all go through similar stuff. I was the same in my Sporty. I would get my money's worth and zig zag my way down the entire strip! LOL! Even on take off. You get used to it after a while, but now I have developed a bad habit of cocking up the landings. I used to grease them in, now I just can't seem to get one smooth. More practice required. Oh well.... means more flying required, and that's never a bad thing! ;)
  3. OK... So having a look through the manual (Rotax 912ULS) I have found the following image. Now from flying around at cruise (around 5000rpm) my Manifold Pressure sits at around 23 to 25. So according to this image, I could course the prop up to 27. Am I reading that right? [GALLERY=media, 4045]Rotax-Cyl-Pressures by BirdDog posted Dec 30, 2017 at 7:39 PM[/GALLERY]
  4. I have the endorsement and I know how to use it. Take offs, landings etc etc. What I want to know is how to get the "Best" out of it. Easy to say... course her up in the cruise. Fine for landing and takeoff etc etc. But I am looking for the finer details. @Camel - I am in Yass, NSW. My prop is factory fitted woodcomp. @Downunder - Its a 912 - so yep. 100HP at 5800
  5. Yep! Sure is!
  6. Hey all, So my Sportstar has an inflight adjustable prop, and up to now have not had much need to move from full fine (no X country Endo) but now that I am about to start venturing out, I thought it best to start researching its appropriate use. There is little to no info in the manual (It's factory fitted) and can't really find much online. I emailed Evektor some time ago, but no response either. :( Any tips, hints, do and don'ts would be much appreciated. Cheers John
  7. I don't get to fly over this one much. ;)
  8. It beggars belief as to why you would put black tiles on a house in Australia. I purchased a fully enclosed trailer a while ago and it was a dark green colour. After about a week I realised it was getting VERY hot inside, and considering I was transporting some PA and instruments in it, I went about fixing the problem. Easy fix - I painted it white. Now, the temp inside is amazingly cooler than it was when it was green. I don't understand the whole black roof thing!
  9. Yeah cool! Mine doesn't seem to give me any grief and my glasses are polarised - but point taken.
  10. Like some of the others, I have a Sportstar and I love the bubble canopy and the view. Like the others, it can get hot on the ground and during taxi, but just open it a bit and you get some crazy airflow, so not that bad. One thing I would recommend though is to get a UV Filtered version, or you will get horribly burnt.
  11. What I am saying is... there are plenty of other options in a similar class for cheaper money!
  12. Good point! Wouldn't it be great to see how much he paid the network to get that story on air? Then it's not really news is it! More a paid advert.
  13. It seems pretty scarce mate. I am looking for some space for my SportStar, but not a lot around. Cootamundra ideally for me.
  14. I am in a similar boat. Looking for space ideally in Cootamundra - not storage.
  15. I watched the segment too, and thought... hmmm... I wonder how many other agents for the likes of Evector or Bristel are watching and wondering how they can get their, more affordable RAA aircraft on prime time. I honestly don't get it. It was pure advertising and contained no valuable information at all - and in fact - blatantly lied! The story made out that this aircraft is the only one in it's class at this price tag, and that, is misleading at best.
  16. Now that's cool! Might need to start planning for the next one! Awesome adventure!
  17. OH!! Nut jobs!! LOL!
  18. Locating the Cafe at YWOL? Just head for the dirty big QANTAS jet - you can't miss it! :)
  19. Wow - Nobody? I can't seem to even find a contact. Called the council, they don't have a clue, and one mob I called doing maintenance out there, doesn't really know and suggested I fly in and see what I can find. If anyone knows anyone that may know someone that may know a guy a Coota, I would be keen to talk to them.
  20. Yep! I am in YWOL all the time. Good little AD. :)
  21. Hey all, For those still watching at home, I thought I would update you to advise that I now have my X-Country Endo - So all good for me. :) Cheers all J
  22. Hey all, I am looking for a new home for the Bird Dog closer to home and Coota looks the goods. Anyone know of a contact out there? I am preferring hangar space rather than leave her out in the cold. Cheers J
  23. I am with you mate!! There as talk earlier about cabling being pulled etc etc. But like I said, if it's done by someone who knows what they are doing what is the issue? I just had my entire exhaust ripped out of the bird for a full refurb! Why is that OK, but the same guy can't make it easier to see my engine instruments! LOL!
  24. Thanks all. A good discussion. I am still on the fence with "modifications" like this. If it's done by a LAME or someone with the approval, I don't see an issue - But I don't write the regulations. I was out again yesterday and had a Pax. A mate who is a bit larger than me, and I made a note of what problems I faced when wanting accurate readings on the engine instruments, and I will stand by my claim that having to lean over in front of him in flight, surely can't be better than getting the instruments on an angle. I REALLY hate the attitude of "LSA pilots have been using a flat dash for years" as an excuse to sit back and not look for a better way forward. Seriously... Are we that old and stubborn that we can't look at something and improve it. Anyway.... I will put up with my dash the way it is, and fly and be happy, but I still think an angled dash would make for a nicer experience for me in the cockpit. Just my 0.2.
  25. My Bird is online with a school at a club, and as an owner I guess it's my right to allow only who I want flying the bird. That said, I don't really restrict. BUT... I am be happier if the person wanting to fly does a check flight with the CFI, with the school, and all is made sure he or she is capable. I think a lot of clubs would like you to be a member first. I certainly request that our CFI makes the call on if the person is capable or not - Check flight etc etc.
