I believe the 912 will not "fire" until 200 rpm has been achieved. Something built into the modules.......
I've seen a few turn over half heartedly and then fire instantly when a new battery or jump start has been performed.
I'm not sure whats going on with that video. Perhaps an older engine with "original" modules?
It is also an 80 hp, with far lower compression than a 100.

Now if you substituted "FAA" with "CASA", that's how it would be living in OZ.......I had a very bad run in with a real prick of an FAA individual.............. -
I sat holding at runway XX ( taxiway at keys) and watched a cessna turn final, land and call "clear".
Made my "entering" call and 2 seconds later have an RV call late final.... no other calls before this.
I stopped, turned and looked but could not see it. Started thinking I'd miss heard the location, then over the trees it comes.
One of these pilots that does 5 mile circuits and 3 degree finals......so low I couldn't see him on approach.
Moral of the story.... expect the unexpected... just because you can't see anyone on final, doesn't mean there isn't.

Bloke at my field has an edge from about that time..... over 4000 airframe hrs I think.
Obviously been rebuilt a couple of times. Not from crashes, just maintenance...... I think he has a streak 2 wing....

Yes, Harder in some respects. Coming towards you, controls are opposite.There must be a skill to fly one of these remotely - probably harder than sitting in real thing( Going away, stick left, goes left. Coming towards, stick left, goes right...)

There are plenty of people who build kits (or do a percentage of the work) for other people.
Some do this virtually full time.
The legalities are what they are.....
My take. Your safety is up to you. 100%.
If I lacked skills in a certain area and there was a person very skilled and competent in that area, why would I not ask them for assistance. Naturally, they should be compensated in some way.
The end result, a safer aircraft built.
The casa hobo writing regulations because that is what his job is, is not the one flying or operating YOUR aircraft.
Words on a piece of paper do not make aircraft safe. YOU make your aicraft safe.

The ex CEO of Australia Post was paid 5.6 million last year....... I believe part of that was 1.2m in bonuses which he "donated" to a charity run by his family members. Tax dodge anyone?
The new CEO is "only" on a potential of 2.8m........

I can't see the RAA dropping it but I can see them viewing it as another "cash cow" to milk members for extra dollars.WILL it be too much longer before we are told by RAAus that they are to drop the Insurance cover for members due cost or availability???Mike -
It is also somewhat of a monopoly too turbo......which has it's own implications.

Nig, read up about biofuel diesel cars. The ones where they use "fish&chip" vegetable oil.
Some mix with diesel/mineral oils ......
Some start on normal diesel fuel and run the exhaust or coolant through the bio tank to heat it up then switch over when up to temp.
Maybe you could start it on kero and heat the diesel tank as above.

It does seem to be an odd thing about aviation where owners are expected to pay for manufacturers defects.Question which may at first seem unrelated. In the last year I have received three recall notices for my Mitsubishi Pajero, in each case costs are covered by Mitsubishi. Now, if the Lycoming problem is of the engine manufacturers making, shouldn't they and not the aeroplane/engine owner be liable for the cost of inspection/repair?I have had to purchase products for engine and aircraft safety/service bulletins.

Cost of replacement makes these aircraft much more viable to repair and maintain.that might be the case with helicopters but considering that the youngest J3 cub is now 70 years old I can see that corrosion and metal fatigue issues are going to be a much more consistent issue with these old planesLocal training facility just rebuilt their 172. SIDS, new windows, paint, interior.
A small fraction of the cost of a new one and all set for another 10 yrs training.....

Less than 2 months to go........
Many people travelling interstate need plenty of time to organise the trip.
No "Program of Events" yet..... AirVenture Australia .......
No "Seminars & workshops" named.... AirVenture Australia .....
Lots of hoopla and hot air but nothing of any substance giving reasons to go........

Total fuel usage for the trip? 80 kts would be an economy cruise?
I keep going back to the blog and finding more questions......lol.
Your tyres look a bit like carlisle turfglides? How did they go?
Trips like this are what true recreational aviation is about in my opinion.
Am I the only one who keeps procrastinating about doing something like this?
I really need to get off my a$$ and make it happen......

Bex,i went through Ross racing pistons in the US,others had been using them and they were recommended.They phoned me back and discussed the drawings i had sent them,so i ordered a set.The machine work ,has to be seen,lightening done on inside crown too.

I've been to a few casa seminars in the past couple of years.... and the term "arrogance" is something I can relate to in the seminars.
Communication/discussion pretty much being a one-way, them to you direction.
I've come to the conclusion they know nothing about needs, wants and attitude of recreational pilots.
Individuals who have to "pay their own way" are a totally different ball game to commercial organisations and pilots who fly on the company dollar..... and I'll throw the military dollar in there too.....

I put it to the current ceo and president 18 months ago that it would be good to get some fuel outlets to provide a better or known quality fuel.
Perhaps combine with marine groups to lobby for something. ( I imagine they have similar fuel quality issues?)
I was pretty much told 99% of problems were with owners/operators not not checking/maintaining their aircraft correctly....

I have a 10 inch dynon, plus large airspeed and alt.
The gauges are easier to pickup and read, almost instant.
I find the dynon display takes a second or two to mentally register.
The most critical time is landing. I glance at speed and alt. Hand on throttle. Power up/ power down. Whatever is needed.
But most of the time remain focused on runway. So rpm not needed.
