  1. Who else performs double loops and rolls in their Savannah?

No one in a RAA rego I would imagine.

Are there any GA Exp out there in Aus?

Don't know much about aero's personally. Do they need certification or something?

  2. Sounds good, but the reality is that the "Australian Way" is to demand a full investigation to prove that it wasn't your or your loved ones fault that they killed themselves, regardless of cost, and to make sure you have someone to blame , (anyone but your loved one), and if you can't get it straight up, go to the media (A Current Affair, anyone?) When half the time the deceased might as well have said "Hold my beer, watch this"."I't not his fault your honour, he was drunk and didn't know what he was doing. That publican is at fault because he gave him the beer."

10 rum and cokes, 4 times over the limit, a couple of bongs and 2.00 am on a motorbike but the NT coroner thinks poor "detour" signage is at fault....

Road diversion set-up contributed to Darwin musician's death, coroner says

Just like the trike report where his aviation currency was largely glossed over, this idiots condition being full of p!ss and drugs garnered one line in the article.

Must be something in the water up there.....

  3. Looks like the starter gear is permanently engaged to gear 42, unlike a conventional solinoid activated starter.?

Yes, and it looks like 42 drives gear 20. These connect to the sprag clutch, 18. The clutch only engages when driven by the starter. The gears don't turn when the engine is running.

  4. Back to the slide in, slide out battery exchange, a la the gas bottle exchange at Bunnings..

Spot on Red!. Also, if "one up", what about a spare set of batteries or two onboard?

As this aircraft is for Rottnest trips, the best setup would be to exchange batts at Rotto?

I don't think electric motors can be directly compared to IC engines in power delivery, ie 70% power.

No doubt motors have different power curves and efficiency rpm.

They have special props and related IFA systems to make the most of this power.

I think indirect comparisons with stated aircraft capabilities are better than going head to head, motor vs engine.

I read one report from an electric powered aircraft pilot owner who said he got far more use/power from his aircraft in reality than calculated as a conversion from IC. You can glide on descent with zero power used and even recharge if power regeneration is capable. Something you cannot allow for in an engine.

I think ultimately, electric aircraft need to be built from the ground up as electric.

I think the current aircraft are adapted from IC powered airframes which is not ideal but ok for testing and marketing.

The real revolution will come fro 100% electric designed and powered craft.

  5. As I read it, the deceased had not flown ANYTHING in the 18 months prior, and that last flight was a BFR.

Then he gets in a totally unfamiliar aircraft solo and starts low level manouvers on the first flight....FFS....

The repeated references to his character do nothing to change the facts about his stupid decision making....( but might make the family feel better?)

I don't really understand the witch hunt with the gopro. Finding it didn't change much but fed the lawyers and police ego....

Bet the bloke regrets sending it in......

  6. Poteroo, I was told second hand and don't know if it is true, but the Chinese bought a very large cotton farm in nsw.

It collects a lot of water which they sell to the govt.

That, combined with "primary producer" export taxes ( or should I say deductions) allow them to deliver cotton to their factories in china virtually free.

Situations like this, if true are a real concern. Basically cutting Australians out of Australia.

  7. Interestingly RAA rego.....

This must be a shock to the IC engine industry. I'll wager they're getting charged up to counter this surge of electrical power, before they're completely fried.

Not if current Rotax engine and parts prices are concerned at the moment.

We can only hope these electric aircraft put pressure on them. (Or should I say "amp up the pressure")

  8. I am advised that the Accident RV7 had been covered in a shrink wrap type coating instead of being painted. I had not heard of this technique but is supposed to be popular??

Popular in the car and motorbike scene.

You can get textured or plain/smooth in many different patterns, colours.(eg carbon fibre look)

I was thinking of putting a couple of bands/stripes around my wings....

It's very thin and just "stick on"....will mold to compound curves when heated.

I can't say I would ever consider it as a primary covering, more like a decoration/ pinstriping thing.

I don't really think it would handle serious speeds. Obviously ok on cars....

  9. Everyone (maybe a dozen people) here runs Castrol oil. I'm sure it was a semi synthetic, but I can only find full or mineral listed now...

They said the mineral part gives better rust prevention over the full synthetic.

They used to use Penrite (which is no longer made).

Penrite was good on the plugs but gummed the rings a bit. The castol is far better on the rings but they go through plugs more often.
