The trouble is Marty not everyone lives in a smallish place in Australia like you do. For me to drive the 300km to the farm towing a trailer drop off some gear then head back...can not be done...and some times we dont have any power when we get there due to being on a SWER line...so that dirty coal fired power station up the road is no good to us. I would have to start my diesel generator to try to charge the car long enough for the return trip home. EV cars are only practical for small travel distances and just carrying passengers...until there is a mega major shift in performance...it wont happen in this country. Most of us travel too far and too wide

I had one of Reg Brosts door locking system and it worked a treat..it was not hard to operate at all and I am 185cm and 107kg The only was to get a good seal is use a sealing tape and when you make the doors you need to bend them to fit better..also where you mounted your ball hinges for the doors makes a big difference Everyone who has got a Eprop loves them 🙂 Was speaking to a customer today he has a Excalibur (opposite rotation) 4 blade he ordered and fitted to a Aeromemntum 120hp powered RV12....almost 10 to 15 knots better in cruise..fully loaded at MTOW he has over 900 ft a minute climb and 1200ft/min at normal ops..WOT 5450 rpm he gets 130kts straight and level ...VNE is 134kts he can now cuise at 120 kts at a far lower rpm than before

Yes its been a long haul this one. Especially seeing I have a brand new kit here I havent even started thats been sitting here since Oct 2019 And I havent had a aircraft to fly since mid last year since the Girlfriend has gone. There is still a bit to do of course but once the paint is finished then the last run home shouldnt take too much longer. My engine should be back in a week or two after its big bore upgrade and ready to go on.

The paint is AkzoNobel Aerodur 3001 and 3002 It is the std paint used by Airbus and others for commercial jets etc Virgin Airlines changed their colours slightly and they got rid of the paint they had. WE managed to just get in on the tail of it. It was sold cheaper than we could get good paint for. It is a basecoat system and clear. The only issue is you have to get the clear on no more than 72 hrs from painting the base coats. It is beautiful paint to spray. I am using a special 2 pack undercoat that was recommended by the paint gurus here for alu ..it cost more than the paint. It was $500 for 5 litres but it will do at least 3 aircraft as it covers extremely well and doesnt need much at all so it remains very light

Hi Marty Yes because its a basecoat system the paint covers extremely well so its easier to do these surfaces like that as there isnt a huge amount of red. The clear over the top is the heaviest coats. The fuse is mainly red but the red covers unbelievably well so will do the white but will paint past the masking line then can mask it an hour or two later and do the red...I do have a dark grey on the bottom and it will go over the red I am picking all this up tomorrow morning and I will take the wing off the cradel and put the other wing on for painting...all the painted parts you see now will go to the hangar tomorrow. As soon as the last wing is dry then the fuselage goes over so maybe by the end of next week it will be back here so I can get all the other stuff done to it

Mabel is getting some dress up today. paint finally going on. This was done about 2pm and the clear was about to go on. I will be picking all that up tomorrow then loading the other wing onto the rotisseri so it can be painted. Then hopefully maybe sunday I will be picking that up and it all will be going down to the hangar. Then the fuselage will go over for painting probably monday or tuesday not sure but it will be done sometime late next week. The fuselage will come back here for engine and avionics and controls to be done. Finally starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel

I have been getting stuff together to make the airband voice recorder for Caboolture airfield. Its been a interesting time looking at all this stuff. if most of it was arduino based it would be a lot better for me because the Pi stuff I dont like at all. Its all ok for you software gurus but it just doesnt stick in my head

Well its been a while since I posted here. Poor old Mabel has been in a waiting game for a while. Too many things happening around here. Building a house at the farm and all the dramas that come with that, CDI modules going out the door faster than I can get to make them due to the world wide shortage on parts, Getting all the special bits made for the throttle bar setups...sorry to the people wanting them but they are not far off. The wings and tailfeathers went for painting about 4 weeks ago and they should be back on this Thursday hopefully. Then the fuselage can go over to get painted. The engine is currently getting the big bore fitted but a small snag today reared its ugly head and cost $280 bucks from our best friend at Floods. At some stage the engine must have been sitting for a while...maybe when it changed from the original owner at Blackwater until it went to central NSW. Looks like a inlet valve got stuch and when the engine was started the piston got a bash on the top. You can see it in the picture.. Of course I am not using the original pistons and cylinders but the valve isnt bent but I dont want to use it so I have ordered a new one for it. The engine should be finished in the next week or so ready for when the fuselage comes back from painting. Another issue was both axels on the UC were bent. None here in Australia and will be a long wait for some so I got 2 new ones made by a mate of mine out of 4140 which are better than the originals anyway. I have to totally clean and refurb the brakes yet. Once the fuselage gets back here then its mount the UC on then the nose leg and then the engine. I will then mount and wire all the avionics and fit up the twin sticks and get all the controls done. Mabel will be ready then to go down to the hangar for the final assembly Getting there a lot slower than I had planned but at least its a lot closer now Mark

Mike is a unbelievably smart guy and using the software (Solidworks) he has it calculates the weight and stress on every part based of the material you use. It also does stress and flex..its a incredible program and also costs a lot of money. It is a industry standard software for everything including space and rockets etc. He will know the total weight within grams for sure. The fuel tanks are masterpieces as well. The wing wont flex too much if you see the video he did on testing the spars he designed. I am sure he would have taken into account all those issues...he is very fastidiuos..almost ADHD about it. I have been watching him since he stared Draco...He says he doesnt sleep much and I would believe it..these sort of people go to bed and this is when all their ideas come to them tossing all the ways around inside while trying to go to sleep As soon as I get the notification from Youtube he has a video released I watch it. if you are wanting to do any carbon/fibreglassing work his channel is must

He is a very rich man..and his brother...mind you it has all been made with his own mind and his work ethics He did relate a long time ago how he started when they were kids...he and his brother ran their own company with around 200 plus employees when they were literally still teenagers...Mark Patey is his twin brother. He truly is a self made gazillionaire Oh and he never graduated from college over there either

All very pleased with the very big improvement in performance I think I have sold about 25 or more now Here are a couple of them RV12 with Aeromomentum 120hp 4blade Eprop in Northern Territory "the plane is in Alice but so far he reckons it's beautifully smooth at this stage I think we're going to have it set at around 22⁰ but will confirm, climb about 1200fpm and full speed so far is 128 at 5200 I imahine that will not change to much but that is really fast for a 12 " VNE for the RV12 is 134kts !!! and he hasnt pitched it fully yet Savannah in NZ (I have sent 3 to NZ now) "Received prop,thanks very much, have fitted it to my savannah s set prop to 25.30 straight and level 5650 sea level 1013 pressure, take off similar to my keiv prop climb out better 150 200 feet per minute plus as you said 5 knots, where is best rpm in straight and level with out compromising take off.very pleased so far." Savannah in NSW "I got my Bfr done 2day and the E-prop is a smoothness that I haven't experienced b4 and quiet.I adjusted the prop to 25.5 and seems pretty good and there's definitely a increase in speed over the Bolly. At least 5kts or more." This is just a couple of them recently Spoke with Anne at Eprop a couple of days ago She tells me the new CS prop will be available in September after its release at a air show in France. She has my name on one to try out They are still working on the Jabiru version so no date yet on it
