Ok, would be electrical then - and as Slarti states, some Solonoids could be the issue.Yes Tomo, it starts OK with enough power (revs) usually 3-5 revolutions with choke.Note your -2 was that the temp when starting? No -2 wasn't start up temp, just a statement it does get cold here!

-
Sorry about that - what I was asking, and you may have answered that already... Basically it's electrical problems? Nothing to do with the engine itself? So if you can spin the engine over with jump leads, will it start ok? Or do you have to wined and wined till it starts? Not too sure what you mean Tomo.Engine needs to spin a lot faster than the supplied battery when very cold conditions.Reason I ask, is cause the jabiru's I've flown, not once have I had any issue with starting - it will fire after about a revolution, maybe two. And it's getting cold here - Negative 2 the other morning.

And I guess that's when he got the suffer ring.

Sorry Jack.... I did try in places but it made it look like I was singling people out, so I opt not to do it - this time. You did not mention Recreational Flying at all! Tch tch!I know your all gasping at the fact, but don't worry, I do my regular advertising (pamphlet give away) on a regular basis! And let a lot of people know about it with this mouth of mine! :clown:

Thanks Neil - it wouldn't have been half as fun if you weren't there.Good work mate, your penmanship is reflecting your flying, thoughtful, enjoyable and dare I say it entertaining, as Bluey said- glad to be a part of it. You are a proud example of the future in flying, keep it up! Now we expect a follow up on the trials of the GA conversion! Have you started??And I say that to all Forumites! You made the fly-in, it was a full time job trying to remember who's who!! Going to places like that, and meeting you guys, (and it's like I've known you all my life!) Makes it so much fun
Yes well I had thought of that... may consider it sometime, though it may seems a bit weird for an RAA mag - "Converting to GA"

And no I haven't started yet, waiting very patiently (
) for CASA to get my paper work to me... Once they do.................... it'll be head down tail up. -
Sorry Cfi, just noticed your question - and my answer to that would be like Veverjg's (he would be your man anyway because he deals in that department - oils etc)Remember ULP doesn't store very well, and will go 'off' pretty quick.Hey T.....in what way does it not store well.....how does it go off??.....a genuine question.
Basically as Vev says, it looses it's "oomph" (to use a layman's term), so you won't be getting the full potential of it - also stuffs up plugs and what not if it's really old.
People have different 'old' periods, but for an aircraft I reckon I wouldn't touch it if it's been sitting for a month at the latest. Store it out of the sun by all means... a cool area is the best.

Got a few New Zulland friends... I do like the accent - makes you smile when you hear it!

Yes, it's well done - went around the email circulation about 3 yrs ago.
-
So it starts if you can get the battery power? Ie, you can spin the engine over?
-
Thanks Hiho, but I actually meant what Jim Davis wrote -go to post nbr 1 -
GraemeK, You got me interested in what he wrote now... anyway you can show us?

Aircraft have been known to crash with a blocked static...... (not small stuff though)
I believe he was talking more in the line of large aircraft?
-
Extremely well thought out there Matt...
And Sseeker, I haven't heard anything.
-
Hey! thanks a lot guys... Much appreciated
Sponsorship to fly to every fly-in to do a report on - sounds like a great idea!! Or did I read that wrong?

I'm glad I haven't bored you to much....

It's not what you know... it's who you know.:yelrotflmao:Don't know how people find these things but that is funny stuff. Nice one Tomo

I hope to be there on Saturday.... for the day only unfortunately due to other commitments

I've been offered a Drifter, which I would love to take... but will mean I'll only be there a couple hrs before I have to head back i_dunno
If the Lightning isn't getting used, I may consider that.... get the most of the day in that way!

Great video! Terry is a great bloke, got talking to him the other day at Inglewood.

Darky: My take on it....Is the Radio (or if we want to be fancy, radiotelephony) test written or oral? I was told it was written but other people have said it's oral so now I'm a little confused...or does the school have an option to make it written or oral?Let's say John from off the street could walk in and do the RT exam, and get a radio license But will be a complete hopeless case at actually doing it - talking on the radio (uni students I call 'em! no offense)
But you have already done the Oral test.... you've gone solo and everything, so your instructor has already passed you on that one, or he wouldn't of sent you off on your own and let you use a radio.
Make sense?

Good, just making sure, surprising sometimes how many people don't realize it can go off.We go through a drum about every two weeks, sometimes one, sometimes three. The aircraft is used for training, it's not just me. :) -
And hope you don't encounter any head winds...

-
And I take it you use that up as soon as you can.... ;) Remember ULP doesn't store very well, and will go 'off' pretty quick.I have a 6x4 trailer with 200 liter drum on it, with hand pump that has an aviation grade filter.20ltr plastic drums and a Mr Funnel here - for aircraft use anyway.
-
I still can't get over the fact that someone like you missed....and mist....... -
Great stuff mate... keep it up.

Refuelling methods for ULP

Mixed fuel will last less time, or shall we say loose it's octane rating quicker than non mixed fuel - the fuel will evaporate, the oil won't, so you may end up with a stronger mix than what you started with. Generally as a rule I don't like storing mixed fuel for long. Also take in mind the oil may 'settle', so ensure you shake it up, mix it, do whatever before you take from it.
I know it's a pain, but I'd er on the side of storing mixed fuel if you can help it. Unless you're going to use it within the week etc...
Vev probably will be better at explaining the pro's and con's of it than me though -
