The other possibilities for excessively high indicated pressure (which possibilities are lower than a faulty sender) are a blocked filter, or a blocked oil gallery.
However, both of these are generally due to excessively dirty oil, not a problem if you're anal about oil changes, as I'd expect most aircraft owners are.
-
A relief valve definitely can stick, it can be jammed in its travel movement by a tiny piece of metal debris, or a tiny chunk of carbon.
I've even had a relief valve stay open and dump every skerrick of the oil flow, resulting in zero pressure. This was caused by a tiny piece of metal getting jammed in the seat, incredible and impossible as it seems.

Ha! Ha! I love that upside-down air regulator and drain bowl, with the drain plumbed into the circuits!
You probably need a diesel engine primary fuel filter and bowl mounted upside down, and plumbed in the same way, too!

Good work, there, Baz - she looks like she's already been around the Universe twice!

I was stymied by YMEK at first, but I knew it from somewhere in my memory bank - but the memory bank was being recalcitrant. So, Google and "CTRL F" found it pretty much straight up.

The NASA Worldview Satellite Imagery site is worth a look at.
The NASA link is below - however, NASA do not provide high resolution imagery on this site - the high resolution imagery is reserved for paying customers and the military.
Select all "Corrected Reflectance Bands" and "True Colors", by clicking the eyeball icon on the LHS menu, to get a view that corresponds with what our eyeball might see.
Add layers by clicking on the "Add Layers" button. Select "All" from the new pop-up menu, then scroll down to select whatever layer you wish to add.
"Reference Map" is available, outlining roads and places - but be aware, the map is extremely basic, and lacks detail.
Activate the layer by clicking on the eyeball icon on the far left of the layer list.
Hide the layer by clicking on the eyeball again.
If you zoom in too close, the imaging becomes blurry, and a yellow exclamation mark appears next to the eyeball.
Holding your mouse cursor on this yellow exclamation mark tells you, "Layer is overzoomed by 1x times its maximum zoom level".

Turbo, the Capel gyrocopter crash has already been discussed at length on here.
Their machine suffered a catastrophic failure of the folding mast components, and the model had been grounded due to a previous crash caused by a failure of the folding mast components.

It's because your iPads GPS still works to connect to satellites, even with no SIM card or no mobile tower signal.
I can't advise how this would work as regards SAR, because I'm not involved in SAR - but no doubt the SAR co-ordinators will utilise every available tool at their disposal.

Might not have been a forced landing due to bad fuel management - it might have been a technical problem such as a cracked fuel line, or some other form of unseen fuel leakage, that reduced available fuel.
Never made the news anywhere, that's surprising, considering a Mayday was called.

Another power line fatality, apparently. A thankless task for rescuers looking for his body in the croc-infested Victoria river. My condolences to the gentlemans family.

You can't compare U.S. numbers and events to Australian numbers and events. In Australia, a good entertaining event might bring in 5,000 spectators.
A similar event in the U.S. will bring in 100,000 spectators, just simply because they have nearly 14 times the population of Australia - and also because the spectator entry fees are generally less, due to event costs being spread over a much bigger number of spectators.

I recently went along to a very good health "information seminar" presented by Arthritis Australia. One of the presenters was a retired Doctor, and he spoke about the benefits and disadvantages of medical Marijuana for pain relief - as it's being sold to many people suffering chronic pain (severe arthritis sufferers being high on the list) as a good analgesic.
The bottom line was, the good Doc stated that there's no concrete evidence from any peer-reviewed, extended studies, that medical Cannabis (in any form) provides any better pain relief than any other regular analgesic.
In fact, he went on to say that there was a paucity of extended studies on the medical benefits of Cannabis.
The information he provided is that medical Cannabis has highly variable results when used for pain relief - and often has highly variable side-effects, according to the individual.
He stated the big problem is the inexact science surrounding the chemical reactions in the body, when Cannabis is administered.
This is compounded by the varying levels of many of the major chemical constituents present in Cannabis - even when produced for medical use.
What was more interesting was when he asked the audience if anyone had used Cannabis in any form, for either recreational reasons or medical reasons.
There was quite a bit of silence, as it was obvious Cannabis use was relatively foreign to the group of mostly older people. Then one woman in her late 50's volunteered that she had been a recreational Cannabis user.
Her opinion was that the benefits of Cannabis were overstated, even in recreational form, with a wide variation in levels and types of stimulation or calming, from day to day, and from batch to batch.
I've never smoked and never used drugs in any form, and I even have a great reluctance to consume medically-issued pills, as I believe a fortified immune system is the best defence against diseases and health complaints, so I cannot offer any comment on Cannabis use.
As a former employer, I know that Cannabis users were less reliable employees, had slower reflex and decision-making responses, and use of it is a big no-no, when any type of machine operation is required.
In fact, the ban on Cannabis use in transportation jobs came about, due to just one major rail disaster in the U.S. - the Amtrak Maryland disaster of 1987, where the locomotive engineer and his brakeman, high on Cannabis, ran their locomotive into an Amtrak Express passenger train, which derailed it, and killed 16 people.

If you and I charged people for services or products that you and I, had no intention of delivering, and did not deliver, you and I would definitely be charged with "intent to defraud".
I wonder why the TRC then thinks it's O.K. for a Council to behave in this manner? Because there's no chance of anyone on Council being charged with "intent to defraud", due to the fact that they can hide behind a corporate mask??

If you watch Formula One, you can go jump in your clapped-out $300 Hyundai, and pretend you're an F1 driver ...
If you watch World Championship soccer or AFL football, you can go get your ball, and pretend that one day you'll be playing in the World Cup or the AFL Premiership ...
If you watch powerboat racing, you can jump in your $1500 bondwood speedboat powered by a 186 Holden, and practise at being Donald Campbell - even if it is only at 48 kts flat-out...
If you watch the Isle of Man TT races, you can jump on your Honda step-through, and practise weaving through bends at 60kmh, like you're doing 280kmh on the TT track ...
However ... if you watch the Red Bull aircraft pulling fancy stunts, and diving through obstacles with only metres to spare ... it's a bit more of an obstacle to try and purchase something within your working-man budget, that flies - only to find that you are then very limited in what you can actually do with that little aircraft ...

Bruce, I haven't done Lake Eyre myself, but the Mungerannie Hotel is reportedly quite good, and Phil the barefoot publican will pick you up, if you book accommodation and arrange to be picked up by him.

The Lancaster in the RAAF Museum at Bullcreek in Perth, Western Australia, is one of the Lancasters sold to the French for ocean patrol duty in both the Atlantic and the Pacific.
It ended up being based on New Caledonia, and from there, was "discovered" by a keen aviation observer, who had spotted a "sister" Lancaster in transit through Darwin.
This Lancaster was saved just as it was about to be retired and probably faced scrapping, as happened to so many of the Lancasters that were still basically airworthy.
The short story is that the French agreed to sell it to the W.A. RAAF Association, and they even flew it to Perth for them! The rumour is the deal was assisted by the upcoming sale of Mirages to the RAAF.
Sadly, as with so many fine WW2 aircraft, it spent 22 years in the open as a public display, and therefore suffered the ravages of Perth's extreme Summer heat and Winter cold, along with wind-blown salt air, all of which did nothing to ensure its continued airworthiness.
Finally, the RAAF Association arranged to have this Lancaster moved to their proposed large new museum at Bullcreek, after the DCA advised them, it would need to be moved from its static display position, to enable Perth airport extensions.
It was fortuitious that the W.A. Govt came good with a substantial amount of financing, as part of W.A.'s 150th anniversary of the States founding, for the new RAAF museum, along with another $100,000 in donations from local businesses.
But even at that, it still took a very substantial amount of voluntary contributions of labour and machinery to enable the Lancaster to be moved to the new museum and restored to a satisfactory, but still un-airworthy condition.
There is an excellent "write-up" of the entire history of this Lancaster on the "Lost Perth" Facebook page. It is reported that there are only 17 Lancasters left intact in the world, and only a handful are left airworthy.

SABIC is the manufacturer of the Lexan, they have a comprehensive website, and they also supply a Solar Control (Lexan) Sheet, which controls (reduces) UV light, without affecting the level of light transmission.

So CASA's recommended power procedure for incipient spin recovery was incorrect? - and now (after a double fatal), they plan to correct it?? The mind boggles. This must surely lay the groundwork for lawyers to have a field day.
"Incorrect guidance
While the ATSB assessed that the instructor’s incipient spin recovery knowledge was consistent with established guidelines and did not contribute to the accident, the investigation identified incorrect incipient spin recovery guidance provided by CASA.
The CASA publication Flight Instructor Manual, provides the following guidance for incipient spin recovery:
RECOVERY FROM THE INCIPIENT STAGE
As soon as the aeroplane has stalled and commenced to yaw take the appropriate recovery action. Increase power, apply sufficient rudder to prevent further yaw and ease the control column forward sufficiently to un-stall the aeroplane.
Point out that if power is to materially assist recovery action it must be applied before the nose of the aeroplane has pitched too far below the horizon otherwise its use will only increase the loss of height.
Increasing engine power prior to an application of sufficient rudder to prevent further yaw and applying sufficient nose-down elevator un-stall the wings as described is inconsistent with established guidelines and manufacturer guidance.
The United States Federal Aviation Administration publication Airplane Flying Handbook, Chapter 4: Maintaining Aircraft Control: Upset Prevention and Recovery Training provides the following guidance, consistent with established guidelines, regarding spin recovery:
To accomplish spin recovery, always follow the manufacturer’s recommended procedures. In the absence of the manufacturer’s recommended spin recovery procedures and techniques, use the spin recovery procedures in the spin recovery template. If the flaps and/or retractable landing gear are extended prior to the spin, they should be retracted as soon as practicable after spin entry.
Spin recovery template:
1. Reduce the Power (Throttle) to Idle
2. Position the Ailerons to Neutral
3. Apply Full Opposite Rudder against the Rotation
4. Apply Positive, Brisk, and Straight Forward Elevator (Forward of Neutral)
5. Neutralize the Rudder After Spin Rotation Stops
6. Apply Back Elevator Pressure to Return to Level Flight.
The handbook also provides further guidance regarding power use during spin recovery:
Reduce the Power (Throttle) to Idle. Power aggravates spin characteristics. It can result in a flatter spin attitude and usually increases the rate of rotation.
CASA advised the ATSB that this matter will be referred to Safety Education for review and correction as required."

The Libs have even less RA aviation policy than Labor - but I guess with the election result, we just know now, nothing is going to change.
What I can't understand is why so many people voted for ON (8%) and Palmer (4%), quite likely not understanding that a vote for either, was simply a vote for the Libs. Preference deals are what decides election results today.

IBob, you can purchase tinted Lexan. Why would you bother with applying a tint film to Lexan, with all its attendant problems (bubbling, scratching, clouding) when you can purchase Lexan already tinted?
Is it because the roof panel is already in the kit, and has a preformed shape that makes it difficult to purchase in that shape, in tinted form?

Excellent trip story, with accurate information, and great photos! Thanks also for the heads-up to Windy.com - that is truly an excellent weather website! The number of layers available, is staggering!
It's a major advance on EarthWind map, which is still relatively useful, though. The major advantage of EarthWind map, is the ability to find the winds at varying altitudes.
