  1. Another handy use for aero start is to spray a small amount around carbys after reassemble as engine idles to check for air leaks, the revs will climb.
  2. Does anyone know of any wrecked 912 engines I just need the inlet manifolds off one
  3. Same weight as a 914 but with 180 HP , sound too good to be true.
  4. Thanks for all the replies and I sort as figured as much , never intended to do anything illegal, and I fully understand the ramifications thought I would just ask the question , still unsure how the trikes , paragliders and hanggliders at Porepunkah manage it, surely they aren't flying pas as TIFs , I know someone who took a flight in a paraglider recently and paid to do it.
  5. I understand the need for a COMMERCIAL licence, the plane would be 24 reg and looked after by a LAME and the pilot would have a instructor rating. How do paragliders and hanggliders manage it or do they follow different rules
  6. Seen it done at Mt Beauty with trikes and tourists lining up to have a go , so would they were being done under the banner of TIFs. Got a son keen to follow his training through and thought it may be a way to help with cash flow. Lots of tourists in our area.
  7. Just wondering if there is a legal way to perform paying joy flights in a 24 reg ul
  8. Thanks for the help , battery spins the engine over OK so I guess it may be loose wires, the engine has nearly 1300 hrs up , how much life can you get out of the reg/rec
  9. I think it has Ducati electrics , regulator rectifier gets its power from fixed coils on rear of engine separate from ignition coils when running the voltage meter reads about 14 volts but drops back to 12 after shut down.
  10. Having trouble with my 914 , the master light has started to come on in flight and then fade off could it be the rectifier or crook battery, worse when revs are low Greg
  11. thanks ed ,three photos ,the blue one crashed when they were trying a bolly adjustable prop and a blade parted from the hub, one of the others is mine and I will try and track down the other Greg
  12. Could you get them to give me a ring on 0428585573 Thanks
  13. Trying to track down fellow Sabre owners , can anyone help? Greg
  14. My 914 is fitted with a intercooler that has air directed through it via a scoop on the cowl , thanks to the previous owner, I always wondered what the air box temps were so I fitted a temp gauge off a engel fridge . the temps rarely go above ambient so if the intake charge is that low maybe I can run unleaded if detonation is a product of high intake temps
  15. Drained all the fuel out and replaced with new from the servo , all fixed, how easy was that, goes to show pulp doesn't keep for long
  16. Having trouble with the 914 engine in my plane , on take off when the engine is in boost ,it starts to falter. Could it be the fuel a bit stale as the last time it ran OK but that was about 6 weeks ago The fuel is stored in a tank under ground and could be 12 weeks old and it runs OK in all the other engines on the farm Nothing else has changed since it ran 6 weeks ago and now its playing up ,can premium UL degrade it that time
  17. Just received this , can anyone tell me what the hell this means. CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf CASA-153_14-Permission-to-occupy-seat-fitted-with-dual-controls.pdf
  18. So do you know of anyone that's been fined? I am happy to play by the rules and it would not be so bad if I was checked occasionally but I never have and it really seems like a waste of money and effort, although, trust my luck, I feel I will be the one they make an example of next time I try to pass through the airside gate
  19. So all I have to do is keep away from Merimbula to avoid the water boarding,
  20. About to renew my ASIC for the third time , unsure whether to throw away another $200 as I have never been asked for it even though I have flown into quite a few RPT airfields such as Port Macquarie, Dubbo, Devonport, Mildura, Broken Hill etc, Just wondering if any members have similar stories and which airports are doing the checks. What's the worst thing that can happen if you don't have one? Greg
  21. Thanks I will print these posts off for reference, have you done these trips in the past?
  22. Great advice I was thinking of crossing Spencer gulf after Goolwa and then following the coast around to the Nullarbor Roadhouse just for the scenery but things may change I am still a couple of weeks away before I set off
  23. Hi Andy I thought the king island track would apply elsewhere, I have flown it once , but you are right if I had a choice I would rather crash in the desert than become shark bait Greg
  24. I am pretty sure we are allowed to cross direct to Tassie now via King Island which was brought in the same time we could climb to 10,000ft so I think the water crossing is OK but I could be wrong, although Ricks track does look safer Greg
  25. Hi Rick Looks good but I would have gone Goolwa then direct to Nullarbor but you are right it would be a bit longer Greg
