  1. So in Australian airspace radio failure procedure can be found in AIP ENR 1.1para 21.2.8, basically a. squawk 7600...not that difficult, b. broadcast blind at suitable intervals e.g. call sign position & intentions, c. look out for other traffic & monitor TCAS if fitted, d. max exterior lighting on, e.maintain last assigned speed & altitude for 60 mins & thereafter speed & alt as per flight plan. As I mentioned earlier I think that flying into BNE, SYD or MEL in an RAA a/c isn't going to happen due to congestion, however the secondary controlled airports with very limited i.e. 3-4 RPT movements an hour no problems, yes I want to be able to transit Gold Coast coastal or via the western VFR route, the same goes for Coffs, both these airports will force me over tiger country to remain OCTA hardly the safest option.
  2. Guys, speaking as an airline check & training captain, flying VFR being radar vectored either through or for a visual approach is not a big deal, wether in an airliner or an RAA type a/c.
  3. If you can fly a radar heading & maintain an assigned altitude within +-100ft thats ops in a CTA, much easier than flying into class D airspace, I for one don't want to take the Foxbat to BNE or Gold Coast for circuits, however transiting the zone would be nice & with the location of some of the CTA e.g. Coffs would be a safer option rather than flying over the hills OCTA.
  4. Yes, most overseas based Aussie airline pilots eg CX, KA EK etc can use there 6 monthly Proficiency Check to cover the requirements of a BFR reference CAR5.81 As long as the type is on the Oz register, eg A320, A330 etc, you need to have a current class 2 medical as a min, that's to exercise your privalages of a PPL. As for an RAA BFR I keep it simple and go up with the CFI for the check.
  5. A mate of mine has his Victa in a hangar at YCAB at $250/month, he used to pay $500/month at YRED.
  6. She's up & running, flew it yesterday on a Navex to Hervy Bay & back.
  7. Did a trip a few months back from Caboolture to Hervey Bay & return, 3.3 hrs & used 45 lts, 5000 rpm at 90kts, just under 14ltr/hr.
  8. The prices quoted above include GST.
  9. Just recieved an email from Reg the importer, $94,000 for the XL & $97,000 for the S, waiting to find out if that includes gst or you need to add 10%, the MTOW for the new a/c are 600kg,
  10. Thanks, just been downloading all the good gen onto my iPad, spotted the obvious error, the more I read the more I'm impressed, anyone know if there are any at YCAB? Otherwise will have a peak at Archerfield.
  11. Just got the info pack from Reg, again it's a very impressive ride, you are right it's less expensive than the equivalent Foxbat, also no civil war happening in the US....
  12. Guy's I remember the tittle to an old song, "love the one your with" I fly the Foxbat when I'm on leave, just wondering how the Savannah compares, I realize that being on a Savannah page it's all going to be very positive points of view, specs for the XL are impressive.
  13. Thanks for the info Kyle.
  14. Does anyone know the fly away price for a new factory built XL? Not stated on the Savannah web page, thanks............................
  15. I know, not holding my breathe, may just have to do my Australian class 2 medical on my next renewal
  16. Reference one of the articles written in our Sport Pilot magazine by the CEO or Tech Manager from memory of few months ago stating that they we're looking at incorporating CTA approval into the ops manual at some stage, no time line given though.
  17. The only advantage of the RPL is the ability to fly in CTA, it's only a matter of time before we in the RAA will be granted that privilege after the correct training.
  18. $90,000, tell them they are dreaming.......
  19. If GA is indeed on the decline where are all those hangar slots for rent in SE Qld?
  20. As I've stated before, RAA offers a great variety of brand new & hi tech a/c for the individual to fly at a reasonable price, who wants to pay $300/hr to hire a 40 y.o dinosaur.
  21. "Supply it & they will come", I'm sure that some entrepreneur could make a living by getting a contract from the local council to operate a MOGAS tanker, a second hand F150 type truck with a 2,000/3,000 ltr tank fitted is all that would be needed, also imagine a good cafe located at the airport, I'm sure RAA folks would utilize these facilities, it could even make the airport/town a destination.
  22. How much longer do we have to wait for airports to install MOGAS, the preferred fuel for Rotax engines.
  23. That's great news, hope it comes together, a very nice location to get that $100 hamburger.
  24. As just said by Camel, "Anyone who transit Coffs Coastal is taking the safer option. SURELY safety is important." The buzz word in the airlines for the last few years has been Threat Error Management i.e. TEM in my company we always brief the potential threats posed by the airport & arrival/dep followed by ways of mitigating them, safety is always paramount, one only has to look at the VTC chart for Coffs & see that RAA a/c transiting are legally forced to fly over tiger country to remain 1nm visually clear of the CTA, definitely not the safest option, come on CASA approve CTA transits for RAA.
