  1. Some other memory just snuck through and suggested that even if it wasn't its type, the little sunburst trike up at Townsville had the name 'Snoopy' painted on the fin...🤷‍♂️ And after some digging around on the top of the wardrobe, I found this in an old album. Once again in Townsville (I think), at a small club airshow. Wasn't hugely impressed (then), as I wasn't really a fan of all flying surfaces, especially all trailing, non balanced slabs with no profile. But in hindsight, a very simple and minimal, but quite flyable aircraft. (you can just make out 'Snoopy' on the fin/rudder in the shadow...)
  2. From what I can remember, I think it was called a Bunyip? I don't think Col Winton had much to do with it (inspired maybe?), but he built a few things like this. Had a 447 0n it. The Sapphire however had a 503! Could exceed VNE straight and level😱 The guy had a few ultralights, the Sapphire was technically his wife's... It was my RAAF reserve time, on a trip to Townsville, so I think it was at Charters Towers🤔

I've actually watched the video footage as well, which to me seems even more unbelievable... Ok, so aircraft is flying along (actually climbing out), it has some flap down. Now, MOST aircraft, when flying with flaps down, experience a downward pitching moment, countered by the use of up elevator. If the WING loses connection to it's TAIL, the wing will pitch DOWN. For reference, look at the C130 firebomber that lost it's wings back 12 years ago, the wings detached and initially dihedral led upwards, but then pitched downwards and hit the ground before the fuselage. or; The B17 that was cut in half by the Kingcobra in Texas 3 years ago, the wing and nose pitching forward into the ground. I've no way to prove the Antonov video is Ai, but it just doesn't look right.🤔🤷‍♂️

I have numerous questions about this image...
  5. Looks like they would have to be re-bagged and painted... Tell him I'll give him $75 each ($300), and will look into where you are, and pick-up or post.🤔
  6. Yeah, only looking at tails and elevators. Wings would run more like $1,500~$1,800 each.. This is/was a GR912T (trike), so bigger tanks, flaps, and the reinforcing to be a 912 model. I see a 80hp 912 in the background there... I'm only looking for tails to go on a two stroke (basically the same), and they do look a little knocked about 🤔.
  7. Wouldn’t know where to start pricing them🤷🏼‍♂️ I mean if you went to Lightwing for a ‘new’ tailgroup, Mick would probably be looking around a couple of thousand dollars (covered and painted. But for old, possibly (internally) rusty parts, I’d be thinking more like $75~$100 per item🤔 Its one of those ‘how long is a piece of string’ questions…
  8. No rush, just looking for a set for my other project Lightwing...
  9. Looks like two tailplanes and two elevators here... I have jigs to make new tails (mine were damaged in a hangar accident), currently using spare off another hull.
  10. Just out of interest, do you have all the horizontal tail groups, serviceable, and how much?
  11. It is with deep regret, that we inform of the passing of 'Planet47'. She was only 65. Not specific details as yet, but found deceased in a living room, she lived on her own. Name being with held for now. RIP.
  12. Truth is, I looked at that photo (15-10-2019) for a while, trying to figure out why I had that cushion (that's all it is) on the tip? Came up blank 🤷‍♂️ It may as you say, be there to alter the angle of the wing, or it may have been something to do with the holding the ratchet strap buckle off the new paintwork...
  13. Having removed/replaced wings on Foxbats a few times, and generally on my own, I worked out where the CofG of the wing is, and using triangulated ratchet straps, can lift the wing with an engine hoist. Obviously the tank needs to be drained first, but I usually leave the flatiron on (just pull one of the carden ring bolts), and with carefully estimating the weight with the hoist, all the bolts come out fairly easily. I usually stick a bit of masking tape at the balance point (1675mm from flap edge, and 380mm forward from the flap shroud edge), and usually tape or clamp the flaperon level.
  14. I wouldn't claim actual knowledge, just an assumption from the websites (and we all know about assuming...)🙄
