Hey there, anyone have their copy yet? Last month they updated the Members Market ahead of the magazine, but looks like that hasn't been done yet either. They did say no member's market for Jan 2013. i guess if the Mayans were right, what's the point??

good onya! i soooooo wish I could do it that way... how was that first solo?

in any case, sounds like a great opportunity to add hours and experience that you can parley into a CPL down the road when you're ready, and potentially open yourself to even more cool opportunities!

that is cool... some of them look straight out of a tim burton film...

That's my dream, to be able to fly around tassie... thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys for all the great discussion and warm sentiments. It really does feel good to commit yourself to something like this where you can serve a need right here in your community.
To be clear, this has been worked out very precisely between CASA, Angel Flight, and the ATO and they are very careful to tell you you may NOT accept any renumeration from the patients, regardless how well-intentioned as that would jeopardise the organisation's status with the ATO. I am guessing that CASA agreed to the waiving of the landing fees and reimbursement for fuel because even faceless agencies have to show a human side and let's face it, so many people out there have NO realistic way to get from woop-woop to Sydney unless they want to spend 15 hours on a bus.
Anyway, hoping to do my first drive some time in mid-December depending on timing.

I think he was saying if you could hover outside of the atmosphere and wait for the earth to rotate under you until Sydney appears... ?Please explain -
Hey all,
After reading about the angelflight.org outfit in a recent magazine (Australian Flying, from memory) I decided to look into this worthy organisation. After reading the background information and stories on their website, I decided this is something I want to be involved with.
Now, I don't have my ticket just yet, but one way I could get involved and get my foot in the door so to speak is by volunteering as an "Earth Angel"... Simply put, the pilots volunteer their time and aeroplane (fees and fuel are reimbursed), but once the person gets to the airport, they still need volunteers to pick them up and take them to or from the hospital or whatever.
Anyway, I'm proud to say that I have signed up to be involved in no matter how small a way, and I am sure that one day when I am fortunate enough to be able to fly (and have the requirements met), I will be able to give back by flying some missions to help those in need.
Check it out on http://angelflight.org.au
cheers

"revenge seeking a/c engines" sounds like a good name for a rock band.Revenge seeking a/c engines-I'll believe that.

And we still haven't really heard much by way of follow up as to whether it could have been a false-positive...

new update as of Saturday's lesson. thanks guys for all the encouragement and for sharing your experiences here as well! When I do solo, I expect that the experience will be somewhat of a blur (like my wedding)!
some major crosswinds, rough air, and thermals this weekend...

Yeah, all about accountability I am thinking... that way the organisation can limit liability by demonstrating that they have hired the "most qualified" people for the job. Not that they always are, but its a threshold I guess. Same reason people in my profession (IT) are always chasing certifications for things we have been doing for years.... sad :(

Not sure what it is, it looks like a facebook update...

... for a few months anyway

It does seem just in the short time I have been a member that it has been a volatile position.

Not sure if this info is in one of the 20-page threads going on about the state of things in RA-Aus, but just noticed this:
RESIGNATION of RA-Aus CEO STEVE TIZZARD 20/11/2012
November 20, 2012 | opsassist
Members and friends
I have only had six jobs in my fifty year working life and it is now time for me to look at the more satisfying aspects of employment. To me that satisfaction comes from researching and writing up complex issues that every aviation organization is frequently required to do.
There is a crying need within RA-Aus for someone to write up much that has been on the back-burner for years due to time constraints, as indicated above.
I feel I achieved a lot in the period I worked on these issues before becoming CEO and now wish to return to that role on a part time basis. This will free up time to spend with grandchildren and other interests I have in life that have been thwarted by the working routine of a CEO.
In view of the above I will relinquish the CEO position on Friday 4 January 2013.
Kindest regards to all.
Steve Tizzard

I feel at this point I should reiterate that I also thought it was awful, lest anyone think I posted this as an endorsement of the program ...
