yeah that one at Bankstown is in the same hangar as my flying school. it really is an ungainly looking beast, but i've had a look around it and it does look like alot of fun...

GAHH, i always forget the VFR guide, probably the handiest document out of the bunch, other than ERSA... I really need to learn to start checking the VFRG first. Thanks David!

Thanks motz... so its something you use if you need it to get home, but you wouldn't plan a trip based on it for sure.

Hi there,
Just wondered if anyone can explain or point me in the right direction to info on Special VFR, basically what is it?
**please, no beard-tearing over the 10,000 reasons not to do whatever it is I have asked about. It is just a question. Thanks.**

Just got back from doing my first one today - got the pleasure of driving a delightfully chatty, sweet little girl with brittle bones disease and her dad from Bankstown to Westmead Hospital. I find It hard at the moment to put the feeling of joy quite into words, but I am sure I'll find a way. What a great way to spend a Sunday arvo, can't wait to do more and more of these!

Apologies if this has already been posted:

from Australian Flying:
CASA Launches You Tube Channel
17 Jan 2013
The Civil Aviation Safety Authority has launched its own You Tube channel called CASABriefing.
CASABriefing was set up to make safety videos widely available to anyone in Australian aviation, and at the moment has 23 of the authority's most popular safety videos uploaded. The intent is for CASA's entire library to be available.
There are also videos on daily aircraft inspections, passenger briefings, prop swinging, operations at non-towered aerodromes, bowser refuelling and understanding weather.
The compelling 178 Seconds video on the dangers of flying into instrument meteorological conditions when operating VFR was among the first lot to be uploaded.

it just says that preferred scenic routes can be obtained by the park manager at that number. I would guess he/she/it would be able to email it to you. sounds like preferred routes might get you even lower than 2,000 and other than that just stay above that and you'll be right.
I don't see why "we" wouldn't be able to, as long as we observe whatever airspace rules are over the area, and we don't do it for hire or reward. Hope that helps, and if you do it, please post pics! Its on my list too!

Hi there - its on page 854 in my new ERSA under Special Procedures. It says preferred scenic routes can be obtained by the park manager on 02)4787 8877. Minimum 2000 ft above the terrain. Hope that helps!

Weather or not you should go outside!

Was supposed to do my first Nav yesterday, YSBK to YWOL, but needless to say that was rained out... kind of a bummer i guess but it'll happen when it happens. I just feel for all those people I have seen on the news being pulled off their roofs into rescue choppers, I hope this subsides soon and damage is minimal.
i fell back on Plan B and did another home brew, a Coopers stout this time!
