We were in Merimbula for a weekend when one was visiting. Belonged to Jack Curtis. Took the kids down to have a look as Jack's wife told the small crowd that they were doing circuits to familiarise a new pilot. She invited us to join them so we all shared a very generous treat. I noticed that as the tail came up it yawed slightly. Afterwards the young pilot told me that because of the effort to push the yoke forward, he had to take his feet off the rudder pedals and plant them on the floor. Wonderful circuit of Merimbula.

Pilots read these posts. We all want the best for our fellows. This forum is an educative, information exchange. I have never posted anything that I believe to be disrespectful to unfortunate victims of fate. All pilots who read these reports wish only to expand their knowledge and, hopefully, to avoid making mistakes. I wish that all of our fellow forumites would take these posts in the generous manner in which, I believe, they are posted.

A mate from Wedderburn became proud owner of an Aeronca Champ. We'd met at Holbrook a number of times and so we met up again at an SAAA Easter fly-in at Mangalore. I had my VP-2 there, some doubted that it could fly 2 people on the Revmaster but it did. Anyway, my mate was really proud of his little Champ and generously offered to take me for a fly. We climbed aboard and except for the lack of leg room it was a nice little thing. It had a C-65 which was hand-propped to start. We took off and enjoyed a leisurely climb to about 2,000ft above ground. He handed over to me and I flew around for a bit. "See how she stalls" he said. I protested but he insisted that I should marvel further at her 'pussy-cat' nature. I pulled the revs back and eased back on the stick until it shuddered and dropped its nose, simultaneously with the prop coming to a standstill! Surprised we looked at each other. I then suggested that the correct course of action would be to put the nose down and attempt to air start it but, to my surprise he insisted on dead sticking it to a landing before many shocked spectators. Things that happen I guess!

Good question Jerry. Mine was a VP-2. It was terrible as a 2 seater but had plenty of room for one. Used to climb at about 300fpm on a standard day so, when it was hot, could be a little worrying just maintaining altitude. Big wing thermalled well.

I was about to leave Narromine, following a very successful AUF Natfly. Some friends called me over for a mag and a coffee. I then jumped in to the Volksplane which was fuelled up and ready to depart for Temora, a little over 2 hrs at 60kts. Whilst overflying Forbes I started to feel a little uncomfortable in the bladder. I'd never landed at Forbes and, thinking 'not far to Temora', I pressed on. Further on I was interested in the view of Quandialla having in-laws from there but never having been. The discomfort was becoming quite acute now and, what the bloody hell was I going to do? The answer came in a flash! I whipped out the trusty Swiss knife, emptied water from the large Coke bottle and cut the neck off it (the bottle you fool!) Blissful relief as I half filled the container with the hateful ballast. Landing at Temora I taxied up to the fuel bowser as quietly as I could hoping to spring out of the plane and empty my shameful cargo before being spotted. Of course this was a vain hope and I was met by mate Alan Powlay! He had a great larff at my discomfort.

It's a matter of being free to make judgements on what is presented by our politicians. We need to hold a discussion on the strength (or weakness) of their case. Using language such as "apalling slurs" and "people who are going their hardest" is not helpful. There is no golden rule stating that those holding the reins of power are above reproach. Remember that the Morrison govt has serious questions to answer as to the probity and even, according to constitutional experts, the legality of their actions prior to and even following the prorogation of the last parliament. As to the acceptability of codeine in the pharmacopeia available. this is a question of "balance". My strong opinion is that, 'on balance' the need to have a strong analgesic available for people (such as the huge numbers of women suffering from endometriosis) outways the argument that some ilicit users of drugs may access their hit. Figures are published on deaths by drug overdose and I am sure that codeine represents a small fraction of these. If one has knowledge gained through working in this area then, don't be afraid, put it up. For the record, I am appalled that parliament has been suspended for 5 months. In exceptional times it is imperative that decisions made "in the national iterest" be subjected to scrutiny in full gaze of "we the people" and I condemn the Labor Party for not objecting ferociously to this travesty.

I have held for a long time that this person is probably acting for 'Big Pharma" and definitely NOT in our interests. The fact that TGA has, over the past few years, acted to firstly remove Pethadine from its legitimate place as a strong (and strictly by prescription) analgesic and secondly to severely limit access to codiene and that the Chief Medical Officer, Brendan Murphy, has supported this is damning evidence of a set-up. Codiene is a cheap, effective generic which has been supplanted by Oxycontin and Endone, both of which are patented and bring their producers huge profits.If in doubt about this then consider that I was casually offered 8 Oxycontin tabs, quite casually, by a dentist following a recernt tooth extraction. When you consider Oxycontin, Endone and codeine in overdose statistics, which is of greater potential to do harm?

I really would welcome some signs of an awakening of a political consciousness in you after all of the discussions you've taken part in here. I guess that 'hope springs eternal". The statistics are fully public and undeniable that wealth has continued to concentrate in fewer hands and that the gap between better off and the poor is actually accelerating. Wrong! An economy will always exist as, by definition, it is the mechanism for transfer of goods and services between people. 'The Economy' Facthunter is referring to is the ponzi scheme, devised over 40 tears ago by Milton Friedman and the Chicago School of Economics and others, as a rip-off, which Morrison supports, designed to transfer wealth to a small number of oligarchs. This positions these interests above the interests of ordinary citizens. Health should be the only consideration in this crisis and going hard and early is the way to protect the maximum numbers of citizens.
