We are all in "furioso" agreement.
It seems to me that the logical/formal avenues of complaint have been exhausted, we are left with the practical approach - Australians are not going to march but we can withhold payment - if we all (most) just grit our teeth and not apply for an ASIC (unless entering a major port) the bean counters will soon conclude, that maintaining the system is no longer cost effective and the whole thing will be quietly shelved (that is my hope anyway).

I cant recall but I think the ASIC card arose from regulations not an Act of parliament so it really didn't suffer the scrutiny of parliament at the time and most of the incumbents were not in parliament at the time plus it does not affect them or the majority of their constituents (as if they mattered!).
All well & good but has anyone actually heard a single pilot speak in support of ASIC and allied regulations, as applied to secondary airfields/ports? It truly amazes me that there are good people out there, who despite not agreeing with these draconian , illogical, costly measures (not just ASIC but the whole security upgrade thing, that costs the whole community) go through the whole charade of filling out the forms & paying the dough, just so they can flash their card in the unlikely event that they will be so challenged.

True ! a smear of Vaseline has been around since "Adam was a boy" however the Molykote 111 is quite a bit stiffer/more viscus, so has more sticking effect than Vaseline. Is compatible with all rubber type gaskets/seals will have a protective function where the rubber is exposed to the aliments and lubricates for installations where there may be a bit of a tight fit.

Never flown into Ballina. Grafton a few times.
Nearly all my trips north, from the Sydney Basin, have involved flying out to Lithgow - Scone - Ellerston - Walcha - Armidale (landing "comfort stop" & fuel top up) - then either continue straight north & up into Qld or hang a right for Grafton. Even a trip to Moree involved Armidale on the way back (great dynamic prop balancing service).
Most of my exits from the Sydney Basin involve high "Tiger Country" - my personal tactic is to fly as high as permissible, in the hope that, should the noise stop, I have sufficient gliding range to open country. So I am fairly comfortable with lots of dark green rugged stuff (a long way below) and keep a good eye open for clearings within gliding range.
You could fly west of the divide to Moree (have a soak in the hot springs) - hang a right and come out over the coast, having flown over minimal Tiger Country.

I favour Molykote 111 Silicon Grease - wonderful stuff. Costly but a tube lasts me 18-24 months.

Maaaate - I believe thee have been some attempts to have this matter reviewed to no avail.
The reality is once a law/legislation has been enacted there is a general unwillingness & high cost to change/remove it, no matter how ridiculous it is.
The fact is this legislation was introduced in great hast, by the look at me too attention seeker politicians in Canberra , after Sept 11 terrorist attacks in the US. Not even the US has come up with such draconian and ill thought out legislation.
If we Australians could only act like other democratically ruled populations and refuse to participate (rebel) - this would have been thrown out fairly shortly after its introduction.

Great thing about Armidale is the availability of ULP, just outside the security gate (dont forget the number). I always fly away trips with 2 x 20L collapsible jerry cans/bladders. 20 litres on each shoulder is easier & more efficient (W&B) to carry, than one 20 L and 2 trips.
Oh! and you can taxi up to just a few metres from the security gate - all very convenient.

Isn't Alice is an international port ? If so I am not surprised by the ASIC requirement - its all the secondary's that are a total furphy.

One of the first to obtain an ASIC, I did not renew after the second round - haven't needed it since.
The reality is, that just about everyone, pilots, airfield staff, etc are well and truly bored by something that does not in any shape or forme enhance security for secondary airfields/ports or the major ports they may fly in to.
Note: I support ASIC type security measures at our major ports.

Fair enough but if we all boycott (like that would ever happen) this completely stupid initiative, the good-ol-boys of the gov might just have to think again.
What is it with Australian's, we just role over and ask for a kicking and again and again, no questions asked, no action taken . Its no wonder our leaders feel free to rip us off at will (apologies all round if caught), implement illogical laws as an alternative taxation rout with no sign of a benefit to the proletariat anywhere on the horizon.

Na! He/She/It are covered by yours, as long as you remain together.
You dont need one either:
A. If no one is there to challenge you (very common scenario)
B. You book ahead for an escort (see A)
C. You stay in or close to your aircraft (see A again)
The whole ASIC thing (for secondary airfield/ports) is an ill conceived, complete "furphy" - try not to get involved.

Absolutely however not all aircraft (I would suggest only a few) will have this sort of empty weight: MTOW ratio and probably most that do, will be within the existing RAA classification ie not currently GA

How safer? - increased weight usually results in increased energy, making unplanned landings much less survivable. This may be slightly offset by stronger cabin protection but I doubt this being a great advantage in the real world.
Load capacity? - for sure IF the empty weight: max weight ratio allows. A lot of small GA aircraft are marginal load carriers - fuel load often being sacrificed to carry pax/camping gear/ etc
This change will allow a wider range of aircraft to be registered RAA. As I understand it, this will be in almost direct coemption with GA Recreational Pilot, except if you are GA, CTA is accessible.
What benefit will RAA be offering, to refugee GA Rec Pilots? and their aircraft?

Not sure why you want to label engine compartment cables - they are mostly short runs, that terminate at a point that makes their application obvious.
Behind the instrument panel - different story all -together.

Jackc - dont know who the deep thinker/observer of human nature was but he/she observed something along this sentiment:
Aspiring rulers should note - the poor will revolt, as they have nothing left to loose. The rich will appose you or force you to do what they want, as they have the resources to do so. The middle class will do nothing but maintain the status quo and pay taxes, as they fear loosing their "position"/ income. Ergo maintain a large tax paying the middle class and you will ensure the on going enslavement of the populous.
It may have come to your attention, that Australia is an overwhelmingly middle class society and despite our much vaunted disrespect for authority, amongst the most law abiding, non confrontational, dont rock the boat, she'll be right mate, societies on earth.
We do not politely or otherwise "put the pressure on the hierarchy" continually accept with little complaint, the inefficiencies, sometimes criminal often immoral shenanigans, from our leaders (whom we willingly bank roll).

Just had a very quick/brief look - would I be correct in saying, that having a Blue Card means that you have not been convicted of a child related sexual offence. in other words it is not a system that attempts to prevent child sexual abuse in the first instance, rather one that try's to prevents further abuse from occurring, after the fact ?
