    Interesting reading this - I am not an RAA member and am no further enlightened as to what the problem is - seems to me that lots of discussions about an undefined issue actually is helping in the potential demise. Certainly doesn't make it appealing to join !!

    Here are some I took - unfortunately didn't get a closeup of Kaz's Auster as there were too many people hanging round when I walked past with the camera - its in some of the distance shots though

    Kaz, had a chat with you on Saturday - didn't make the connection though !! What a nice Auster you have. We were in the C180 VH-MTF Fantastic day, nice place and lots of great people - and plenty of Austers !

    Is Camden Haven still operational ? looked a bit overgrown when I drove past a few weeks ago - not that its that easy to see from the road.

    This weekend the Antique Aircraft Association has its annual flyin - at Cowra this year. Should be a huge collection of old aircraft to look at. I believe they will be celebrating 75 years of Cessna in Australia.

    Its not so bad round Sydney - although it has started raining again. NSW country has been hit a bit !!

    Went for a quick fly over the dam today - long time since I have seen it like this !

    And she is certainly very relaxed while waiting for the next load - deck chair and a book under the wing !!

    Many operators are happy to rent over a few days - and as mentioned only charge hours used. However read the fine print as some require minimum hours - for example at least 1 hour average for weekdays and two for weekend days.

    I guess the main questions is when will you have it at Camden for us locals to have a look ?

    The problem is it sometimes keeps you off the streets when you want to be on them !!

    Birdsville is good for a stopover but good you got out as 2-3 days would stretch it a bit

    I had an experience at night which really showed me how much trouble night VFR can get you in to. We were flying from Avalon to Bankstown - most at night. I was very current IFR at the time and we departed in IFR conditions. We flew into fine weather about half way so relaxed and flew as if VFR. After we passed Goulburn we basically lost all visual reference - we were in the clear but had flown under a high overcast and there was also low cloud at the same time !! It was very disorienting and I had to concentrate hard for a few minutes to get back to IFR mode. It made me think - the same thing could easily have happened to a VFR pilot who was not really current on instruments - and it would have been very difficult. On my NVFR test we actually flew into a cloud we didn't know was there - small one luckily ! My main use for NVFR was, as others have said, departing early or landing late. I remember one morning taking off from Birdsville and watching the sun come up - spectacular.

    What do you mean - when a youngster - I answered "Yes" but must admit when we were clearing out some old bookshelves I found about 20 books - and read them again

    Its not too bad here - not as warm as I thought it would be. I dropped in at Caboolture after Kingaroy too - was so wet I kept driving home - think it will be better than that !

    I am in Brisbane for a week or so at a sailing event - we have a day off tomorrow - where would be best to go for a drive to just look at aircraft ? Caboolture, Watts Bridge, other ?

    I am currently looking at options for purchasing a classic aircraft. One idea I had was to set up a small (2-4 people) syndicate depending on value of aircraft to share some of the fixed costs ! Something along the lines of a Cessna Bird Dog or other 40s-50s taildragger. Would be based SW of Sydney. If interested please contact me by PM

    Makes it much easier having the more powerful engine when you are the following aircraft - specially on the outside of turns with multiple aircraft. Got to watch it when leading though.
