  1. May take a while for The Oaks airstrip to dry out - we live next door and have already had over 200mm !!
  2. Great to see I am not the only one who is addicted to both flying and motorbikes. My taste in bikes is a bit different with a small collection ranging from 1912 to 1939 !! I guess it fits in with the fact that I like old aircraft too !! My "modern" is a 76 R90/6 BMW.
  3. From my experience with taildraggers I think there are two critical points. One is knowing the three point attitude for the aircraft - sit in it on the ground for a while as has been suggested. The other is to get the approach numbers correct for the aircraft - approach too fast and it all becomes ugly !!
  4. The private pilot medical for GA is nowhere near as comprehensive as the commercial one. As long as you are reasonable healthy you will pass !! I don't mind doing it anyway as it is an enforced medical checkup every couple of years which can't be a bad thing.
  5. I must have missed that bit about the altitudes when reading it - bit of a worry if we have too many people of varying levels of fitness operating aircraft up there !!
  6. The Oaks got a little bit of rain this morning but missed the rest - but hey we are in the catchment area - it doesn't rain here !!
  7. Thanks Paul - that fixed it.
  8. Forum time appears to be GMT !!
  9. Is that the one sponsored by HARS ? The classic motorcycle club I am involved in is attending as well I think so much more than just aircraft on show.
  10. Thanks Arthur - so the Lightwing can carry me, instructor and fuel ? I was thinking after visiting the airfield a couple of times that there were not any suitable aircraft there that I could legally train in with two people !! Certainly the small Jabiru's with the 430KG MTOW don't work. FYI - you probably use my property as a landmark in the circuit - we have the pine forest where a lot of aircraft turn base for runway 36 !!
  11. No - I am not building anything at the moment !!
  12. Wow - I like this place already - being described as "skinny" !!
  13. Hi Folks, I have been reading the forum for a few weeks now and thought I had better do the right thing and introduce myself. I have been flying GA for about 20 years - most types from C152 through to light twins. I also like vintage aircraft such as Tiger Moth and Chipmunk which I fly when I can. My other love is formation flying. We live under the circuit of The Oaks airfield so I have been thinking for a while of doing some RA flying and have visited the local school to talk to them about it. One concern I have always had about this small end of the flying scene is that I am 6'3" and 105kgs so I need to work out what I can actually fit in. This forum is really good - hats off to those who organise it. ..... Ian
