  1. All the best, Bex. Know where you're at. See you soon.
  2. My GA912 is available, if you are still after a Lightwing.
  3. There is a large budgetary differential between Zenair and Lightwing. My only complaint about the Lightwing is that it is a little difficult to get into it. Once inside it is good. When i went looking for an affordable plane I found that my height prevented me from sitting in a Gazelle - my head hit the cross member behind. My Lightwing is capable of ground looping but only if I fall asleep. Fun aero and affordable.
  4. Good to hear. Let him know we are all just a bunch of stirrers and not to take anything we say too seriously.
  5. Also, on the monetary side of things, remember that using "unimproved" ingredients (like grandma used to do) immediately gives a 10% reduction in cost your food bill. At least, I'm pretty sure that raw ingredients don't attract GST. Correct me if I'm wrong. In that case, I'll have to work on my veg garden
  6. I don't believe it. That can't really be your shed. You must have Photoshopped it.
  7. Skip the skip. Unlikely at VHF. Do you have a USB supply for anything in the aircraft? I would suspect that if squelch is opening {without any voice signal) then it is likely to be RF interference.
  8. Don, there is a Taylor sitting in the back of one of our hangars. It has been there for some time. I heard that it got as far as initial taxi trial runs, but had a problem with the undercarriage. Also heard that the U/C was repaired and/or modified as a result of the incident. I haven't met the owner but if you like, I can seek out more information for you. (Peter)
  9. Nice work Marty
  10. Thanks anyway Planey
  11. I think there is a big difference between a rusty stain and a rust pit. Also, as any sailor knows, it is the unseen rust inside the wires that are the stress raisers that result in instant failures. Sailboats have been losing masts to this ever since stainless steel started being used the hold masts up. Aviators should know by now. Well done Frank
  12. They were very lucky, if that brick wall was held together with Australian mortar, they sure would have noticed it!
  13. What a lovely forward thinking transport infrastructure plan. It makes so much sense. However, Government blue prints are no more than 'pie in the sky' dreaming. And it's not often that a government will spend up big on public transport. It's likely that fast trains run best on standard gauge tracks - (not like our Statewide narrow gauge that we are presently saddled with). That's another reason we probably won't be actually getting high speed trains in Qld anytime soon. Pity about that.
  14. The point, TP, is that we don't fly from/to controlled aerodromes. (With a few rare exceptions) When I fly from one grass strip to the next, making a 'mayday fuel' transmission makes no improvement to my safety.
  15. The bicycle shop will sell you a CO2 sparklet tap/ Schrader setup ready made for racing bike tyre inflation. Saw one at Also recently
  16. I'm confused. Does this mean that carbon is captured from some polluting industry (no doubt using an unknown amount of energy in the process), somehow combined with ethanol in a mix that a jet engine can function with, then burnt in the jet engines where it is released high in the atmosphere? How can that be good?
  17. Another triumph for CASA Still, one wonders how a large aircraft got down to its last 30 minutes of fuel. At least, I assume that was the trigger for the 'Mayday'. Maybe they were stuck in a prolonged holding pattern.
  18. I think some stuff is being taken out of context. Some of the lines quoted in the letter are RAA responses to specific questions asked by CASA. One might ask whether CASA might be engaging in a little of "divide and conquer"
  19. "If I'm not going to conflict with an aircraft that has made a radio call... , I often do not reply" So, you are relying on other aircraft making excessive radio calls, otherwise you don't know they are in your area of potential conflict?
  20. This time you shouldn't worry as much as when Caitlin went. Boy, I wish we had school excursions like that when I was young!
  21. That Spad was innovative. It took me a while to work out how the propulsion worked. No need for trigger synchronisation!
  22. I believe that Taree Aero club have a BBQ from time to time. They have flight training in Cessna 172's. If you're interested in lighter flying, send a PM (start conversation) with forum member Pylon500. I think he does training at Taree in recreational aircraft (ultralights, but not gyros)
  23. So, all you folk who keep complaining about RAA not listening to members. Here is an example of RAA listening to members, and retracting something that members disapproved of. I can't see any evidence of the alleged 'covering tracks'. By the way, as far as I know, RAA already have a number of registered trademarks. This was just one more. Probably not particularly essential to us, so in the face of criticism, they let go of it.
  24. Get over it fellas. RAA never asked for royalties. And they made that clear from the start. And they have (after all this mudslinging) withdrawn the application so if someone else really want to own the phrase, they can apply for it.
