  1. A bit like the toll roads?
  2. During my lessons on every downwind leg of the circuit I had to make the radio call to the tower stating my intentions, then go through the checks, brakes firm, seat belts tight, fuel in each tank (swap if necessary), oil pressure, temperature etc. It was highly unlikely we could ever run out of fuel.
  3. Is this something to do with the military aircraft arriving at Avalon of did we get a little off the theme of this thread?
  4. Unless you forgot to turn the ADSB off 🤣
  5. They are forecasting this weather to move towards the coast. This plane is in a hanger on a hill. If you have a plane closer to the Queensland coast it might be a good time to make sure it's secured and on high ground.
  6. Wait until I get my airstrip done with a trip wire on either end triggering a camera. I'll make a fortune off the kangaroos and emus 😁
  7. That's a deterrent from making radio calls. Not exactly promoting safety is it.
  8. There was a big push and incentives for LPG vehicle conversions back in the 90's but you're flat finding any bowsers in WA now. They've all been removed, perhaps we ran out of gas 😉.
  9. Are there no facilities to fly in for the Avalon air show? I thought that would be the preferred way to attend.
  10. We flew a Hummer in on Malaysian Airlines in 2005. The vehicle only weighed about 3.5T but it was strapped to a huge steel skid that must have weighed nearly as much. It was for a Pommy tourist who eventually disappeared. I was left with a $60,000 GST payment on his behalf. Actually that looks to be too much, I really don't remember the debt now but we escaped it in the end. I was given the choice of destroying it or exporting it. I packed it into a container, exported it to Singapore and brought it back as a used vehicle at a fraction of the value and a fraction of the GST payable.
  11. Yes, with trucking in many cases the freight is loaded at its source and delivered to its destination without further handling. In the early days of rail in Australia there were may spur rail lines in the town and cities. Most of those spur rails have gone so access to rail is inconvenient for regular freight. Perhaps we'll soon have unmanned flying machines picking freight up and dropping it right on the spot where it's needed or will the weight of the batteries exceed the weight of the freight?
  12. May be true however we have ample coal, oil and gas in Australia if we used our own. Why ship it out just to buy it back at inflated prices?
  13. Batteries are only part of the deception. There are solar panels, their manufacture and installation. Then there are the wind turbines, their towers, blades, massive tracts of vegetation cleared to install them and of course all the man hours and machinery involved. Most of the data you see is pointing at the free energy produced. Unfortunately it's not free and certainly in the short term much more expensive financially and environmentally than the modern fossil fuel power generation.
  14. But there's still the mining and manufacture of the batteries that don't fit in with the definition of clean energy. They'll try to convince the public that we're using zero emission energy but that's a long way from the truth. A bit like they tried to convince us that we were running out of fossil fuels in the 70's. It's all propaganda and the majority seem to believe it.
  15. Marty, Take a look at Page-33 in SP issue 111. HP Aviation hoses.
  16. The statement on exceeding Vne at high altitude is interesting. The article states due to the lower air density you could exceed Vne by TAS even thought the IAS is within limits however I'd argue that due to the lower air density the plane would not be likely to exceed it's structural design.
  17. I think the rest of the article from Page 80-83 explain it in detail. Quite a good informative read. I actually picked up the previous magazine by mistake, still unopened, and found another interesting article on building your own airstrip. It seemed relevant right now 😄
  18. Just weigh any fluid you remove.
  19. I bought a litre of ACF50 to coat my engine and electrical connections because the aluminium had a coat of harmless surface corrosion. It did a really good job. Now I find it a very useful penetrating lubricant like WD40. It seems to dry out leaving a protective coating however it could be the warmth of the engine bay that did that.
  20. Marty, I can't be sure but with this plastic hose it usually has a hollow ferrel up the inside to prevent it squeezing in and then an olive over the outside that compresses between the nut and the fitting it fastens to. Mine are tiny, 4mm OD tube so I bought original tube and fittings from Evektor in Europe just because I had other parts coming. If I need anything tubular air and hydraulic I think Coupler's in Malaga, WA are as good as any place to get this sort of thing. I just went there with the brake fittings off Ripper, my 1980 grader. IT took them about two hours to replicate the flexible hoses that were imperial thread and they supplied all the tube and tube nuts at the same time. Pretty much blew the budget but I got exactly what I needed. https://couplers.com.au/
  21. I'm not totally against the police having guns however as Skippy states some of their recent shootings have been totally unnecessary and if disciplinary action is not taken against the officers responsible this sort of behaviour will continue. Our police should be trained in unarmed combat so that in most cases the offender wouldn't stand a chance. Many of our police officers are obviously physically unfit and probably unfit for active duty in these situations. However if the offenders are heavily armed and the police officer is actually in danger then the use of firearms may be the best choice. If these perpetrators are refugees or immigrants then they should be on the next plane back to their native country. It's a waste of time and resources to allow them to stay here where they should appreciate this country as a fresh start and behave appropriately. Our politicians are not doing their job when it comes to keeping Australia protected from these criminals.
  22. I've had lots of internet trouble over the last week. I called Telstra because I couldn't get a stable connection for the Flightradar modem. They said that Telstra have just disabled the 3g network and it's upset the 4g network. The first test was done on the Nighthawk modem and the second on the iPhone hotspot.
  23. Not yet but I'm count'n
  24. The last thing we need is to have civilian aircraft to be seen as a potential threat. It would present the same problems as a women and children carrying machines guns. Next you see well decorated members of the armed forces charged with war crimes for taking action against civilian targets.
