Not wishing to be to much of a curmudgeon - There was nothing particularity unusable about this flight. 

 

The conditions are similar to those, that are regularly  experienced by aircraft / crew,  in the far northern hemisphere, every winter season.

But it would take a lot of "trust" in the plane to operate in those conditions - as they were close to it's minimums - and YOU being the one making the choices.

 

Yes, "up north" it is/may be the norm.   But you qualified it with WINTER.

Well put fd & Thanks for Posting. There are times/conditions where you can't LAND  in Both Places. It's not the same as flying over as the speed through the Air warms the Plane 30 degrees C in cruise. and you have ways of heating the Airframe . Nev

Its not a pissing context, just pointing out that aircraft in the far northern hemisphere, operate in these sorts of conditions every year. The only unusual thing about this is that it was an Australian crew - big deal!
