Aviator wrist-watches

My current Traser tritium watch is getting hard to see. The hands and face are almost the same colour and I can't tell the time at a glance, with or without my glasses.

 

What's reccomended for flying? Digital or analogue? White face? Smart watch?

With most EFISs (electronic flight information system displays) and EFB (electronic flight book - iPad with mapping) having a time display watches are more a matter of personal preference than a requirement.

 

I am using a Citizen black face with white numbers.

I remember a long time ago I had a watch with a stainless steel band. The reason I haven't forgotten it is because of the day I accidentally shorted the positive terminal on an car alternator with it, got very hot very quickly.

I got one of these -  a Casio 200H. They're well known in the watch collecting fraternity as being cheap and reliable and come in different dial arrangements. Has a rotating bezel, which can be handy. I actually got two because I couldn't decide which dial design I liked better so I got both. In my opinion all you really need is a watch that is easy to read. I think analogue is better because the brain has to do less processing to interpret what it's seeing compared to a digital watch. My daughter gave me an expensive titanium `Pilot's Watch' a few years ago that came with an instruction book an inch thick that I need to read with a magnifying glass just to remember how to set the time. Looks good but is totally useless.

I did it working on the Battery of a C-172, which was in a confined space down the Back where I couldn't move quickly or remove it quickly. It got red hot almost instantly   Nev..

What do aviators want special watches for? I can't remember any Pilot's I flew with having them. Maybe the rumor that  those with small penis's  wore them made a difference. The One's on the Panel perform the Necessaries, when used appropriately.  Nev

i would have thought if you had a small tallywacker you would be inclined not to wear an aviator watch if it advertised the fact. thats why i don't wear one.😁

I cannot see the Purpose a wristwatch serves in the cockpit. You have to use both arms to do anything to it.  Stopwatch function is essential to a lot of flying manoeuvers even flying in the circuit and elapse for fuel management and holding etc.  Nev
