Is it too late for me?

I've always been a very calm person. I go with the flow. I accept what is. My heart rate sits under 60 even after a car accident.

 

Flight training will be what it is. I've flown and worked in military and commercial, fixed and rotary, Cessna to C5 Galaxy. Behind the controls for a change will be an experience I've looked forward to my whole life. I will be fine.

 

Location is pretty good, I can be there in less than an hour from where I work and live. Price is price. I've got it covered.

 

As always, I appreciate hearing all the feedback and banter between you blokes. I'll keep you posted how I go next week.

Introductory flight today was bloody brilliant. Decision made. booked to start training next month.

There is a lovely story about a woman who became a widow at 56 (I think), and decided to learn to fly. She ended up breaking all sorts of endurance records. Her name escapes me right now.

I tried to look for her. I think it might be Polly Vacher, although her husband would have objected to me describing her as a widow 😄 . Because I’m really into arcade games etc, I reckon I’ve combined Polly Vacher with Doris Self, who started playing the arcade game Qbert to pass the time when her husband died. In 1984 at the age of 58, she became the oldest game record holder.

This is Doris Self. I learnt about her from the documentary King of Kong. Which is about trying to break the world record of Donkey Kong. It's a ripper of a movie. I've shown it to people who had reservations about it because they weren't interested in videogames. They loved it. It transcends videogames. Sadly she died in a car crash not long after this interview 😞

 

Anyway, she has relevance in this thread for two reasons - she got really great at something late in life. Also, she was the first air hostess for East West Airlines 😊

I mistyped. It was Eastern Airlines. Did you notice in the interview, they show the original plane she worked in, hanging in the Smithsonian 🙂
