Anyone flown from Karumba to Horn Island ?

Just looking for fuel options (Avgas/Mogas) up the western side of the Cape. Public notes on Ozrunways suggest the smaller settlements have nothing and encourage you to stay away by charging mammoth landing fees.

Weipa perhaps? I have not been that way since the 90's. Scherger airspace might be a consideration at times.

Coen would be ok.

Weipa is 8 til 6 Mon to Fri. Coen is daylight with 2h prior notice.

 

A friend was fuel constrained so he took some bladders and refuelled at one of the local strips (rated for RFDS) without leaving airside.

Some places may charge for an entire 44 even if you only use 20 litres from one.

Thanks to all respondents- I was curious how active Scherger is these days with the larger US military presence in northern Oz. Sounds like Coen is the safest option if Weipa becomes out of bounds on the day.

Learmonth and Curtin are not very often, so suspect the same for Scherger. Fly by after 3pm on a Friday and you are probably quite safe!
