They're more correctly called thermocouples, although they're often described as probes. Thruster88 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Aircraftspruce australia has them in stock if your manifold has the 8mm boss's welded in it. I have never had much luck with egts lasting in the thruster. Correct jets and a fuel pressure gauge has worked for me over a very long time. 2

I realise I will probably have to get new probes. And yes aircraft spruce are the place to get them. Only 15 minutes from my flat. 1

These were working but the wiring kept falling off the back of the gauge. Thought I would crimp them a bit but the ends broke. Very old and brittle. 1

BrendAn Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago I think a well maintained 2 stroke. As in clean fuel system and no air leaks. And not lugged is fine without egt gauge. Never had them on outboards and motorbikes.

Nev Rotax is water-cooled too. Outboards can work very hard for extended periods like an aircraft engine. What I am saying is a well maintained engine shouldn't have egt problems if set up correctly and not overloaded. I will be replacing my probes anyway. 2
onetrack Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago You have to remember that an EGT gauge is the only way to ensure you don't melt valves with extreme combustion temperatures - as well as being very useful in combination with a mixture adjustment, to set the most economical fuel burn. CHT gauges and water temperature gauges react slowly to combustion changes, whereas an EGT gives you instant combustion temperature readings. 1 1

A leaking crankcase seal will LEAN the Mixture and Melt a hole in a Piston real fast. Most flying people don't really LIKE 2 stroke Power and the BEST operators watch their engines Like HAWKS. I only wanted to know about fitting new ends on probe leads not get lectured . 1
