An uncomfortable number of unhappy purchasers, with just a few rave reviews. Price is great. Instructions good. Looks nice & simple, small/light weight. Aircraft Spruce is a reputable supplier - anyone had a bad experince with them? What do you think? 😈 Will my Bose A20 Bluetooth headphones do the same thing?

NME Posted December 5, 2025 Posted December 5, 2025 I’m an AvTraffic pilot - met Andy (72) the original founder from Southport QLD. He’s taken on feedback from CASA, RAAus and pilots round the world to improve it over the years. Responds promptly to questions I put on the website. The local ultralights and gliders near me are using the free version to see each other and GA. I pay the 3 bucks a month for the Bluetooth audio TCAS warnings and EFB map integration. Barrynel Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 15 hours ago, skippydiesel said: More details please. Photos would be great. What traffic system are you running?😈 I bought a standard Bluetooth transmitter with an av input, i then ran a av cable with one end where i cut the plug off and soldered the two wires into the microair radio plug as it gives you audio in just check the connection diagram, and the other end plugged into the receiver. I pair my I pad with the transmitter after which avtraffic will make announcements over your headsets, the radio will also mute when you receive a radio transmission. Unfortunately you can only connect one devise at a time thru the bluetooth. I also subscribed to avtraffic , but you need to open ozrunways thru avtraffic in order to hear the announcements 1
skippydiesel Posted December 6, 2025 Author Posted December 6, 2025 Barrynel, You are not communicating with "the sharpest tool in the shed" especially when it comes to electronics. So a few questions; "I bought a standard Bluetooth transmitter with an av input,... What is a "standard Bluetooth transmitter with an av input,... ". ? I understand that a Bluetooth devise must receive a signal from?? to act/show data. Is "av" an abbreviation of aviation or something else? How is the device, you seem to have modified, diffrent to the crop of aviation headset Bluetooth adapters, that are currently available? "i then ran a av cable with one end where i cut the plug off and soldered the two wires into the microair radio plug as it gives you audio in" This reads like you have hardwired your Bluetooth into your transceiver?😈
Barrynel Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 Hi Skippy you can buy an audio cable at any place, the small plug go into the bluetooth unit and the other end gets cut of and the two wires get hard wired (soldered)into the radio plug 1
onetrack Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 Skippy - "AV cable" refers to an "Audio-Video cable" - a cable capable of carrying audio or video signals. 1

Bluetooth device then sends audio via wires directly to the headset jacks or it can be wired to intercom/vhf radio that is connected to headset Jack's. Have you ever paired a Bluetooth device to your phone or tablet? 1 1

In all my Bluetooth "pairing" to date, ithas been between devises so capable. I am now contemplating empowering my non Bluetooth David Clark headset, with a Bluetooth adapter. My confusion arises from; Barrynel's system which seem to involve hard wiring. The systems I have been looking at are - plug headset in male jack/ female end of Bluetooth adapter - Bluetooth adapter plugs male jack into female panel socket of Comm system. Bobs Your Uncle, we now have a Bluetooth connection (subject to pairing) with iPad running AvTraffic alerts (have Barry's phone number so will call for enlightenment)😈
BrendAn Posted December 6, 2025 Posted December 6, 2025 While you all are talking about headphones, i have a set of refurbished Bose a10 s..worked perfect but now the noise cancelling is dropping in and out. Would anyone have an idea what causes this.

Lots of trikes, hang glider and drone pilots use Android phones and they want to run the free version of AvTraffic so they can see each other and GA pilots can see where they are. https://avtraffic.com/faq.html 1 2
skippydiesel Posted December 11, 2025 Author Posted December 11, 2025 I have ordered the necessary (I hope) Bluetooth connecting device - will wait until it arrives before accessing the 4 month trial, if still available.😈 1

skippydiesel Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 Bluetooth adapter installed. Only has up to 4 hs on battery, so have connected to ship power supply. As far as I can tell its operational. Will need to go the next step to do a proper evaluation . Will "load" AvTraffic & try to get some flying in from tomorrow 😈 4 1
skippydiesel Posted 18 hours ago Author Posted 18 hours ago "Tomorrow" turned out to be 8 days later (yesterday). Did an hour. Bit warm under the bubble ( 20C @ 5500') AvTraffic a non starter, due to this computer luddite not realising that a whole heap of "stuff" needed to be selected ON (hope I have now done it correctly). Will do a review after the next flight. For now - Noticed a change in my intercom; Volume needs to be turned to Max, then turned down on headset. I usually do a "click" check, short press of transmit button, on my intercom - doesn't work any more - cant hear the click. Cant explain it, but headset/intercom seems dead - to the point where I did an Any Station Radio Quality Check - came back 5/5. This is the Six Aviation Bluetooth Adapter - not the AvTraffic Should not be related, iPad / WiFi connection with my SE2 dropped out ?? Also lost OzRunways traffic (blue bubble) alerts, for a brief period?? The third event of this nature. I also noticed, after trying, unsuccessfully , to "fix" the AvTraffic issues, in the air, my OzRunways was very slow to come back on ??😈
